If Euan Murray ends up playing Premiership football then its a perfect example of how scarce centre backs are.  He's a solid Championship player, who I would like to see in our squad, but not a Premiership player by a million years.

To be honest, from what I've seen of Corr so far I think we've bought ourselves a wee bit of time to get the right signing in.  He's raw, and wont be our 1st choice, but I've seen enough to suggest he can do a job for now - he's been absolutely fine whenever he has played.

I’d echo that. Corr has all the attributes needed apart from actual experience. If he gets 15 or so games under his belt this season he might just turn out to be a cracker.

Aside from the flares (it's your own pitch your fans are damaging!) and a wee dafty running on the pitch, I thought the younger folk there did alright.

The only downside of it is that theres no moderation. The chants of ‘Paedo’ aimed at Bene would probably have been shouted down after the first airing!

  3. A couple of other points from today, our social media updates claimed, at lunchtime, we had sold 4500 tickets and only a few remained in the railway stand. The official attendance was given as 4,000 and the railway stand was half full at best. While I fully understand trying to put a positive spin on things, let’s just stick to facts.

Secondly, fair play to Bene today. He hit a woman in the face with the ball who needed medical attention. When the HT whistle sounded he went right over to check she was ok.

I noticed last night Hartlepool were playing and Paterson started but there was no Euan Murray some of their fans are thinking that he’s leaving/is desperate to leave to come back upto Scotland… if he is released it’s interesting to see how it plays out if it is to us or another championship club

So Patterson is still under contract? I’m surprised they were ok with him playing as a trialist for us. Imagine he’d got injured!

The main stand would get the sun for most daytime games, it's a hard task trying to view the monitor screen with the sun blinding your view.

Where the gantry is now prevents this and premature blindness.

Ahh fair enough Zen. I hadn’t factored that into my thinking.

  6. On the subject of making Starks Park look a bit better, I’ve often thought that we should have our TV gantry at the main stand side (it was there briefly when we were redeveloping the ground). It’s better than seeing a half stand than a row of houses. Albeit half of the railway stand sits empty with no seats but it’s still a better view. I’m not sure if the Raith Tv guys would know whether it’s ever been discussed?

Unless Killie turn out to be woeful, this feels like the decider for the second place in the group. Would be great to start the season with a win especially in the derby, but also not going to panic if we do lose. Looking forward to getting back to Stark’s Park, seeing the improvements and having my first fudge donut.

I wonder if the fudge donuts will be available tomorrow. Maybe we won’t be able to get our hands on any until the league stuff starts. We might even just take a couple of sugar donuts and re package them as fudge donuts for these games.

This constantly having 4 or 5 starting players out injured is ripping my fucking knitting. It’s been like this for about 6 or 7 years, across multiple groups of players, managers, medical teams, surfaces and training facilities. Absolutely fucks us every single year. Sick to back teeth of it.

I’m actually surprised we have stuck with Blair, the sports science/strength and conditioning guy. I’m in no way blaming him for our injuries but I’d have thought we might have gone down a different route. There’s only so long we can put it down to bad luck!

Surely it's easier to sell more advertising?

As for the defence, I'm yet to see any names of any centre halves outside of Euan Murray who are potentially available to sign. Feel free to point them out.

That’s a silly argument to make. There will be literally hundreds of players available in that position. Us as fans don’t know individual contract situations but we pay someone specifically to manage that side of things.

Anyone else heard that the programme is being scrapped this season?

It’s been produced every season since 1948.

    Heritage eh ?

I think programmes are a bit outdated now. Just because it’s been done for 70 odd years isn’t a reason to continue something unless it’s benefiting the club.

On another note I’m guessing the new signing that Murray alluded to isn’t happening.

  11. It’s been a strange pre season. The calibre of opposition meant that we didn’t really get out of 3rd gear. I’d have liked us to have played a premiership standard side just to give us a bit more of a test.

The new signings all seem to have fitted in well. The only one I’ve been slightly disappointed in has been Smith. I think if and when we have a full squad to choose from, it’ll be hard to see where he fits in.

If we can get another centre half in, even if it’s another old timer like Considine, we won’t be far away ne t season.
