Doesn't look like red and white hoops - look at the collar. The socks and shorts are wrong too according to http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Scottish_Football_League/Hamilton_Academical/Hamilton_Academical.htm

More like  yellow and black perhaps? Alloa or East Fife?

My Grandfather is top right, John Irvine, the picture is up in my parents house. My dad was born in '55 so he thinks it's definitely before he was born. He thought it was Accies so that's all I was going with.

Hope some of the vast knowledge on here could nail it down.

  2. FACT

1978/9 As a 16/17 year old, John Brown was a 1st year apprentice welder along with me in the LAGTA training centre on Bothwell Road, Hamilton.

He was from one of the Hamilton "Schemes" and was playing part time in Accies youth set up.

And before anyone asks..........Yes............He was as thick as ma Grannies mince !

I did 6 months there when it was MetTec. Think it has closed down now.

Anyway, have either of the 3 zombie sevco's turned on each other yet?

  3. Coatbridge, Airdrie, Bellshill, Holytown, New Stevenston, Carfin, Burnbank, Hillhouse (my mate got shot with an air rifle when we were playing fives at the Jock Stein Parks), Blantyre, Cambuslang, Cathkin, Rutherglen, Springburn, Balornock, Barmuloch and Provanmill.

I've been to all these places and they are shit holes. Not all violent but just run down.

I know I didnt mention my home town of Wishaw but it's not all that bad, with the exception of the enclaves of Pather and Gowkthraple. Not much to do and the town center is dead but some pubs are ok for a drink.

  4. Bloody Heroes by Damien Lewis.

Book about SBS operations in the UK and Afganistan, with the main body of the book describing the battle of Qala-I-Janghi in which 8 SBS soldiers and a hadfull of Northen Alliance troops fought off over 300 Al Qaeda and Taliban terrorists.

It also decribes how Amnisty Internation wanted an investigation into how so many enemy terrorists came to be killed (over 200) after video footage was leaked (it's on You Tube) of Brittish personell taking part in the battle.

    Really good Non-fiction stuff.

  5. Was the fight in the Auld Store? I got barred from there not long after we moved in. For "deliberately" playing one of the most impossible tricks shots on a snooker table imaginable. I hit the cue ball and it spun up onto the top of the cushion, rolled round the table, hit a pocket, took a 90° turn, rolled along that cushion and then dropped off the table, bounced across the floor and hit one of the old drunks foot which was bandaged up at the time. He and his mates accused me of doing it deliberately....

The village itself was never bad though. There were some arsehole families in one of the streets, but there were only five or six houses there in total.

I was in the chippy and there basically a riot going on outside. So I was watching it from inside eating my roll and chips with a fritter. Owner said I had to go out. So I did and got into a fight with somebody going out of the Auld Store. What can you do.

I would also like to nominate Hillhouse in Hamilton due to the fact that my mate got shot in the leg while we were playing fives there. And also Burnbank in Hamilton..... just because.

  6. Can't agree with the comments about Law. I lived there for 8 years - hence the reason Stu had actually heard of the place. It went from being a quiet close community to being an rural suburb in that time. New houses were being built all the time and some of the views of the Clyde Valley are absolutely spectacular. There were some bizarre stories about South Lanarkshire Council and their policies for the village though. For example the rail junction there has consent to be used as a railway station.....but only for cattle.... The other highlight was when they brought a space age public toilet to the village. Totally out of place. FFS this was the village where they still talked about "Electric" houses as though it was something out of the ordinary.

How someone from East Kilbride can slag anyone off is beyond me though. That town is marginally better designed than Paisley, but oh my god the place is a shite hole on an Easterhouse scale. Tens of thousands of people live there, but they've got to travel to the town centre for any amenities and the town centre is filled with 14 year old single mothers wandering around aimlessly with their prams and the Village - which is supposed to be the pride of the town - only has one decent thing in it. The chippy next to the Montgomery Arms.

And Briech - totally agree....why does that place have a train station?

Anytime I was ever in Law I ended up in a fight because I was an outsider from Overtown  . I dont know how bad or good it is now as it has been a while since I've been there other than visiting my Aunt and Uncle.

We also had the "Electric" flats in Overtown! The ones on the main st down from the Primary School. I still call them that to this day haha.

I knew a Dickson family from Law, one was a Boxer I'm sure, I stayed next door to their partents in Overtown, any relation?

Like what? A history of rioting and ongoing police chases? What landmark or attraction does Wishaw possess that would persuade an outsider or a culture vulture to visit? And, apart from John Higgins, name some famous Whishay people?

And conversely, anyone I have ever met from Wishaw, including a girl I work with, can't wait to leave the place, which speaks volumes for me

We are Famous for having an outbreak of E-Coli, from the John Barr butchers which was and still is the biggest outbreak of the viris in the WORLD! :P

We also have Jack McConnel, Lee Miller and ICT's Andrew Barrowman.

What the hell has ever came out of East Kilbride? Just a fat Coisty?

As for our attrctions we have around 27 Hairdressers on the Main St alone, the largest number of Sectairian marches outwith Belfast, a golf course, and a maternity and neo-natal unit (something Hairmyers doesnt) in our hospital. :D

  7. I remember driving through a tiny town east of Muirkirk on the A70. Two guys were standing on their respective doorsteps next to each other. They both waved to me as I drove past. I imagine that every Saturday they come out and stand on their doorsteps and have awkward conversations with each other. I doubt either has been in the other's house.

Their town wasn't especially worse than any of the other little Ayrshire hellholes but seeing those two guys depressed the f**k out of me, and I had to pull over to try to strangle myself with a Peperami wrapper.

Yeah they were probably out pointing at aircraft in the sky and throwing stones at them.

  8. Compared to Wishaw, the culture capital of the world, I suppose

EK is a prefab shithole, chucked up in the 40's and 50's. Thankfully when I worked in RR Nerston was the furthest in I had to venture. Anybody I have ever met from there never wants to go outside it, they seem to think the world ends at the start on the Expressway, and the "Village" is some sort of National Turst site  .

At least Wishaw has some history :)

  9. Harthill always strikes me as the bleakest place in Scotland. There's also that row of council houses just of the M8. Who fucking lives in these places? The suicide rate must be through the roof.

That'll be Salsburgh, Breich is the same as well, it's along the A71 jusr before West Calder. Which is also a shithole.

  10. Anyone heard of a place called Craignuek in Wishaw, Lanarkshire? God one guy got a grenade thrown at him back in the late 90's. Ended up killing the wrong guy right enough but crazy stuff.

only in Craignam could you get shrapnel wounds.

I now just stay down the road a wee bit :( . It's not that bad anymore, like you say in the late 90's with the Murdoch's kicking about it was a rough area. But there and the surrounding area, (M'Well, Whishaw, Carfin, Muirhouse, New Stevenson) should all get a bit better with the Ravenscraig side getting redeveloped at last, no thanks to Eastkilbride and Hamilton Councilors trying to stop it  .

Eastkilbride has some really dodgy areas in it. Dont ask me what bits, Westwood, Murry or whatever, it all looks the f**king same!
