Its amazing how many Americans are.  I have two sons and their families in the US, one of them in North Carolina, right on the buckle of the bible belt.   Its amazing how many of his friends and acquaintances see it as their duty to try to save their mortal souls due to their non church attendance and even worse, not getting the kids into Sunday school, etc.

  2. Is anyone any clearer after their conference where Labour is with Brexit:

    • Any peoples vote will not include a remain option - Shadow Chancellor
    • Yes it will! - deputy leader
    • Conference votes to support a peoples vote, maybe?
    • Party leader - we are keeping all options open
    • Conference rejects Chequers and no deal
    • Party leader says he will support May if she gets a good deal

    On another topic:

    • Leader of the branch office - we will categorically rule out another indyref and promote a federal solution
    • Party Leader - I will consider allowing another indyref

Do any of them know what the other is doing and can Corbyn remember today what he said yesterday???

  3. The great and the good of Scottish football were represented at the funeral service including both professional bodies by their senior people,  as far as I could see, directors from most championship clubs, ex managers, managers of other clubs, many former players plus of course all the present squad, directors, staff and management.  I can’t list everyone for fear of missing someone but thank you Scottish football for the the respect shown to our Chaiman.

At a personal level, thanks also to my friend Douglas Rae for giving me the opportunity to become involved at board level with the club I have loved man and boy!  I hope we can live up to your ambition for the club!

  4. When there were the (extended!!!) teething problems with the system last year, there were around 300 or so season tickets issued that were not properly registered with the system.  It did not stop the cards from working its just that the individual's details were not associated with that card.  If you are one of that batch you need to email your details to the club and they will organise getting them associated with your card and thereafter you should have no problems.  The rest of last year's season tickets should be fine and simply allow a one button renew then pay either by card or finance.

  5. Anyone else have trouble with Sky Q voice sync?  I have a Samsung 4K tv, a Samsung soundbase plus the 2TB Sky Q box.  All of them have the ability to apply sound delay so I keep the soundbase and Sky box set to zero and adjust the TV output (as it has the smallest delay steps). Generally 40ms delay gets it about right on most programmes but occasionally it’s hopeless - often when there is an interview from a foreign correspondent on the news.  Soundbase is connected to tv via optical output and not through ARC.

I wonder if our project brave aspirations has something to do with our lack of additional signings?

The club seem really keen to point out how many youth academy graduates are in the matchday squad as one of their key arguments for a better project brave placing (even the official team sheets have (yd) next to applicable players' names to signify it.

A larger squad of first team players would limit the number of development players on the bench.

For want of finding any explanation for the unfathomable grinding to a halt of our transfer activity, am i being too cynical?

And so if we do not bring young players through to the first team, what exactly, is the point of a youth academy?  The youth academy is not something nebulous, separate from the club as represented by the the first team, it’s an integral part of the club aimed at producing first team players and is starting to succeed in that role.

Fair enough. Decent performance, then - our u-20s aren't terrible.

Its  encouraging.  I am not sure of the rules on over age players in youth cup but our entire team were youth academy products and a few of them are catching the eye with some starting appear around the fringes of the first team.  One of our centre backs is 15 and looks a prospect.  Three or four others have a real chance.

Looks like our u-20s had a proper heads gone performance against your lot today - we lost 3-1 and had three men sent off

I actually really wish I'd seen it.

It was 3-0 before the first sending off  65th minute then the 10 men managed a goal.  The other two got sent off in 89th and 93rd minutes so too late to be a much of a factor on the outcome.

  9. Never got into 3d which appears to be a bit of a passing fad.   I have a Samsung 4k 55" coupled to a soundbase and Sky Q.  Watching EPL games in 4K is amazing.  The TV also attempts to upscale ordinary HD with decent results and it came with a free 4K DVD player and a few sample 4k videos.  The Martian in 4K is something to behold!

@Mr X and I think @welshbairn Took a while but this is the handset for Sky Q for older people. It has the same shape as the old one bur the new Q buttons. It also has raised grips on the side rather than being smooth.

In fact that is not the control supplied with Sky Q.  One is the touch pad version which I did not like but more importantly, neither did the boss (i.e the Mrs).   They also supply a second, traditional style control which is a smaller and neater version of the above but with all the same buttons.   The Sky Q interface itself is entirely different from  traditional Sky but a big improvement imho.   My only complaint is that on switch on it defaults to a "My SkyQ" screen whereas I would rather it went direct to "All Channels"

I agree. Falkirk, St Mirren, Dundee U and Morton are my top four. Although it's so competitive that you can't really rule out ICT and Dunfermline either.

Once again, a really competitive division to look forward to and the battle for the play off spots looks really exciting too.

Of the six teams you mention, you can maybe make a case for United or Falkirk being slight favourites but you can legitimately perm all of them in any order you like as there is very little between any of them on paper.  You also have Queens still with signings to come and last year's leading goal scorer and Livi are an unknown quantity having absolutely romped league one last season.  I think the part time clubs will find this league a bit too tough for them this time round.

A good start will be important this year as in a dog eat dog league, any team that establishes an early lead might be hard to catch!

    Moffat scoring against Morton again.

You guys must have fucked him off something odd.

Morton fielded a team with 2 trialists and 4 boys from our under 20s, two of them in defence.  We had no recognised central defenders on the park.  Having said that Ayr looked quite good and I would fancy them to do well in League 1.  Moffat is definitely going to score goals at that level.

Pretty fearful of you lot this season. I think that front 3 looks unreal with Thomson, McHugh and Quitongo. Forbes and Harkins in the midfield looks creative. Have you managed to keep a hold of that penalty box poacher O'Ware so far. Morton could easily win the league.

You missed Gary Oliver also so our striking options comprise Thomson, McHugh, Quitongo and Oliver. In addition, whilst he is perhaps not quite ready, we have a young lad (17?) from our youth set up, Ben Armour who has scored in two out of our three bounce games and looks extremely promising for the near future. I don't see any other club with better options upfront.

Our two main central defence guys in O'Ware and Kilday had ankle ops immediately after the end of the season but both are just about there.

Last season O'Ware was really the sole aerial threat in the box for Forbes to find but this season we will have Thomson there as well, not to mention Harkins and Tidser who can both ping a decent ball in as well as Forbes.

Last year we just ran out of steam after the win over Falkirk towards the end of March.  That was because we had to rely on essentially the same 13/14 players throughout a long season when you include cup runs because of injuries and the fringe players were not great.  This season on the face of it we have far more options for squad rotation.

Is that due to their lack of pace/mobility? I do think we need another CM, but what player would you drop out of Harkins/Forbes if this system is going to be used? Exciting that we are now able to change it up and use players in different formations.

Plus we had Kilday, O'Ware and Quitongo sat in the stand.  Was impressed by the young lads who came on as well.  That's two goals in three 20 minute appearances for Armour and David Anderson looked to have a bit of dig and kept it simple very well.
