  1. Possibly controversial, but I don't rate Strain as a defender, he doesn't have 90 mins in him, and has a poor injury record. On the flip side he is fantastic going forward, and with a dead ball, a maverick at the onion bag end of the park. I'd absolutely love him to stay but don't think it's too far fetched to see him staying, albeit only a slim chance.

Baccus on the other hand is a terrier with a great engine and no injury issues. He'd cruise it in any English Championship side or any of the big payers in our league. 100% will move on.

Whatever happens both have been top drawer for us and we can only hope we replace one or both with other hidden gems.

  2. Just as the potato was destined for another short stay in Paisley, disaster strikes! With the FIFA president all set for the ceremonial hand-over, the potato had other ideas. Instead Mr Infantino was treated to an incredible end to a match as the potato slunk back onto the (very beautiful) Dons team bus for a wee heat on the way up the road.

    Aberdeen's hopes "roasted" once again.

The potato will now reside in the Warnock residence until Wed 13th March when it will once again board that splendid team bus for a shorter trip to the City of Discovery to take on the dark blues. Can it be offloaded or will it take root with the Dons for longer?

  3. Happy enough to see Bolton get a start at RWB, if indeed that is the case. Would definitely have Nahmani start alongside Ayunga, Olusanya does not have a football brain and infuriates me by not releasing the ball and consistently running in to trouble when the whole crowd can see an easy pass on.

Nahmani is quick, not as quick, but clearly is light years ahead as a football player with his movement and awareness. Happy to be proved wrong by Toyosi, but I've seen enough to know the boy should have stuck to sprinting.

  4. Tomorrow we need to play balls in behind, and start Toyosi and have McMenamin in the front 3 as well and probably Jonah.. Doing that we could put less emphasis on the right wing back position and probably play Bolton there as a stopper. They are honking with balls over the top, whatever choice of CB's they play.

Having Taylor back will be a big plus, as he can pick a pass and maraud forward when he gets the chance. Dunne can do neither.

Can still create and deliver down the left with Tanser.

Baccus to keep it tight in the middle and hopefully O'Hara remembers how to lead by example.

Sima and Lammers are simply awful players, got to hope they both start. Should McCausland start, get him booted into the air early doors, the boy is quality.

    Over to you Robbo...........😆

The timing of Strain’s injury could not have been worse.  There was an outside chance we would sell him during the January window, now he’ll go for nothing in the summer. Bummer.

Is it? He's now here till the summer at least, and this new injury on top of his inability to last beyond 60 mins without blowing out his chuff may well further deter any suitors he may have, of which I'm not actually convinced there is a large queue anyway. Baccus, on the other hand, won't be short of offers.

Strain is great fit for us and he is shining in our team, I can't help feel any step upwards would result in him getting much less game time, much like in Israel.

I could be wrong, but I see Strain penning a new deal with us, with this injury maybe making his mind up.

Only a few weeks later "the Big Freeze" began and little Scottish football got played between New Year and early March.

Indeed these are the totals each club managed between Jan 2nd + Mar 9th (H&A):

    7 games     Hamilton
    6 games
5 games     Arbroath, Berwick, Dumbarton, East Fife, St Mirren
4 games     Celtic, Dundee, Montrose, Raith, Stenhousemuir
3 games     Ayr Utd, Brechin, Clyde, Dundee Utd, Morton, Partick, Queen of the South, Third Lanark
2 games     Aberdeen, Airdrieonians, Albion Rovers, Alloa, East Stirlingshire, Falkirk, Forfar, Hearts, Kilmarnock, Motherwell, Queen's Park, Stranraer
1 game       Dunfermline, Hibs, St Johnstone, Stirling Albion
    none            Cowdenbeath, Rangers

note Dunfermline's sole game was a Fairs Cup playoff against Valencia in sunny Lisbon - while St Johnstone's (who hadn't played since December 22nd) was March 7th!

Hamilton's "all weather" pitch paying dividends as far back as 1963, I'm surprised other clubs didn't embrace the idea much sooner..............
