  1. That stat is meaningless without a comparison. How does it compare to other top tier leagues? How does it compare to 10/20/30 years ago?

ETA to save you some trouble I've looked at the starting 11s in the 4 games in the EPL from the most recent weekend and they contained a grand total of 0 English players under 21. In the last full game week there were 4 under 21s starting out of 220 total players. A worse ratio than us.

The first match thread of what will be a big year for the national team.

I'm really interested to see how we line up for this one. I'm expecting it to be a full-strength 11, but there are questions regarding the goalkeeper, how we cope with McGregor's absence and how we respond to recent disappointments. I'd probably go something like:

    Gunn
    Porteous Hendry Tierney
    Patterson McTominay Gilmour Ferguson Robertson
    McGinn Dykes

Not sure about that LCM spot or even the 3-5-2, so all alternative ideas are welcome (even the bad ones).

I think that's the team he will go for, only with McLean in for Ferguson. Hickey is a massive loss at the minute, Patterson gives me the fear every time he plays. He's a complete liability defensively.

Hopefully Shankland gets 45 to show what he can do, and McGregor being injured gives us a great chance to see what Ferguson can offer so I hope he gets some meaningful time too.

Good save from Polworth to 100% keep them in the game but apart from that I didn’t think he looked confident.

Although with those two in front of him I don’t blame him.

The Aberdeen fans seemed to get on his back very quickly. The first mistake I remember him making was when he punched the cross when he could have caught it, and they were on his back straight away after that.

  4. We looked out on our arse in the second half against St Johnstone on Saturday, hopefully that doesn't carry over into this one. Our away form has been abysmal for years now but remarkably we've got 4 points from our last 2 away games. If we improve our away form and maintain our home then we'll be nailed on for 3rd, but that's a massive if. I'd take a point.

We had at least one defender in the box and Vassell had taken such a poor touch it was closer to going out of play than anything else by the time he got taken out.

    Its never a red.

I didn't think you had anyone in the middle, I thought it was Watkins there on his own. I could be wrong, and I don't think it was a red either way. I'm more annoyed as Vassell could easily have stayed on his feet and squared if for a tap in.

Genuinely be raging with this if i supported Killie.

Have us on the ropes in the first half but randomly stop attacking after 25 minutes, then spend the final 25 minutes hanging on and time wasting against a side with no away wins all season.

Not raging, as we won, and has been said previously, we're up to 4th. Why on earth we decided to stop pressing after 30 minutes is baffling though. We had our foot on their throat and they couldn't get near our half, but we decided too drop 20 yards deeper for some bizarre reason and allow them back into it. There was a point in the first 20 minutes where the St Johnstone press didn't kick in until 10 yards outside their box we were that dominant.

The less said about the second half the better - we looked insanely nervous.

Vassell needs a shake. Two brilliant chances he's missed today and if he has the confidence to stay on his feet when tackled by the keeper then it's a tap in for Watkins in the box.

Still, 4th place and a positive goal difference at Christmas. Wahey.

  7. We're 8 points better off than in the equivalent fixtures last season, which is pretty substantial and shows definite progress. McInnes makes his fair share of blunders but we're definitely on an upward trajectory, so he's doing a good job in my book.

There were a few sniggers when it was suggested he might be in line for a Scotland call up. I can see why it might be like that but in terms of an out and winger is there a better one in the league?

Sofascore has him on 15 big chances created this season, which is the highest in the league. 2nd place is Tavernier with 8.
