Did he not also install Alex Rae because he was pals with Chic Young? I may have made that up...
I could be wrong, but we had just emptied Murray and Chic said on the radio we should go for someone like Alex Rae.
Gilmour then went and fucking appointed Rae. Gilmour can’t comment - he had a terrible habit of going for the assistant, with only Gus working out.

Very bizarre to see our former chairman claiming on Twitter that Naismith is only linked with the job due to his Dad’s (rumoured) position within Kibble.
He’s clearly a highly rated coach, works with both the first team and U18s at Hearts, brought onto Clarke’s coaching staff at Scotland.
Bunch of moon howlers making that link.
So what if his dad works at the Kibble? It’s hardly the reason why we are speaking to him about the job. He’s got a good playing pedigree, clearly interested in coaching and, if he can get a team playing like he did as a player, it could be interesting.
He’s not my first choice, but I can understand the appeal.

Quite surprised to read Robert Grieve claiming we have yet to speak to Ross. With him being out of work, would have thought we'd have sounded him out just to see if he was interested towards the end of last week when it was becoming increasingly obvious Goodwin was on his way.
Possibly as he was in the running for the Aberdeen job? If Ross was interviewed on Thursday, we may have been hoping he was first choice.

See ya Jim.
I’m a bit surprised. Not so much with Jim’s ambition, but more with Aberdeen chasing him. For all the talk of wanting attacking football, it’s not something I’d say he’s famed for.
It won’t be Sharp and don’t see it being Ross. No obvious names come to mind at the moment.

Alnwick out of contract in the summer? I'd be hoping Goodwin would be in for him if he arrives at Pittodrie.
Yeah. If Goody goes and takes JL as GK coach I think that would be highly likely.

I know that being a good player doesn’t make you a good coach, and that being a poor player doesn’t make you a poor coach, so wouldn’t have a problem with Langfield being our goalie coach. But who are these mysterious better keepers than Joe Lewis that he’s been coaching for the past few years?
Hladky and Alnwick. Both better than Lewis in the last couple of years.

Clangers coaching Lewis and Woods how to get even worse and to hide if it gets really noisy or if a paper cups thrown at them.
Hopefully he keeps Samson on as goalkeeper coach if it is Goodwin.
I've seriously got the fear.
Pretty lazy comment. JL has built a superb rep as a GK coach, and he’s been coaching better keepers than Lewis for the past few years.

Goodwin confirmed we are looking at someone else similar to JJ.
Snodgrass/Fitzy connection, perhaps?

A discussion I had with a mate, when our otherwise scintillating conversation hit the buffers - assuming both were in their prime years, who would you take back to the SMiSA DinkyDome? Jamie McGrath, or Andy Dorman.
I’d take Dorman. Opinions, opinions.
I’ll go against the grain and say McGrath as he is a much better footballer.
Dorman was great for us, but his best games came when he had Dargo playing, imho, and when he didn’t have that movement he wasnt as effective.

This morning, I thought our dealings looked decent and squad in a good place.
However, after that performance and looking at our options from the bench, is it? Will we Hail Mary a free agent striker now that Brophy is injured?

I thought that Grieve showed up well today.
Maybe it's because he's been through a different development route, but he actually looks like he knows what a forward should be doing.
A promising performance.
Given he’s come off the bench twice, safe to assume Erwin and Main are in the bomb squad?

Well go become a scout and don’t post random players on a fans site. We’ve zero interest or the inclination to do anything with what you post and it’s zero to do with St Mirren.

Did you have the same thoughts when Frank McAveney signed and other players who signed from the juniors. Its a trial if he is good enough he will be offered a deal if not he won't. No harm in looking.
Elvis was a Celtic fan back then, so I doubt it.

It’s one of the NZ clubs that we have a tie up with, is it not?

Kennedy will be involved in any deal with Aberdeen, pretty sure of it.

Agree that both would be lazy and uninspiring signings, more so because both have well documented injury problems.
I long for the excitement of signing someone from the Slovakian league that we've never heard of.
Yeah, or that tank of a Dutch striker we were linked with right at the then start of the Goody era. Looked more like a casual than a fitba player.

Fancied Maloney as his own man for a good few years now given what his analysis on Sportscene plus assistant manager for Belgum. Given our wee Celtic aurora maybe we will sign a couple players from Hibs.
What’s with all the Celtic patter at mindnight?

If that's the case then it's a hard no from me. He couldn't save a Killie team that we stole half of, and would likely demand far higher wages than his actual value would suggest.
13 in 13 for Killie last season…

No need to hate to break it to me, I welcome the debate. However, I'd like to see it tried. We have given Brophy a foil - sometimes two - and it's not worked, so why not make him the foil? It'd change literally nothing about his game or how he likes to play.
He and Henderson would provide the width and movement, and we'd have a striker in the box to pick up rebounds/crosses.
My actual preference would be a back four but it's not happening so I'm looking at tweaks around the current system.
I get your thinking about Brophy. However, all he’d do is cut in from the right and shoot - does he not have the most shots per minute played, or something ridiculous like that?
His best spell at Killie was as a central striker with Greg Stewart playing off him, from memory. I don’t think he suits playing with another forward as it restricts his movement.

Credit to St Mirren for getting a point must've been a real hard week for Jim and his backroom staff.
The boy Henderson looks a player you always get at least one stand out hopefully he will get more chances after tonight.
Only problem with the Celtic performance tonight was a goal,it's always easy to point the finger of blame set pieces, final ball, Johnston was shite,Abada wasn't good enough.
Very similar to the Livingston game at home, dropping points takes Celtic under the 100 points total.
I thought Johnston was Celtic’s best player and the one most likely to do something, especially in the first half.
It was so easy for us to defend without Celtic having a striker, and offering up little movement.

The fringe players in the squad have showed exactly why they are fringe players.
Only a handful of players get pass marks from me for their contribution so far this season.
I don't think we are the worst team in the league but given the run of fixtures, poor form, the covid issue could de-rail us even further depending how serious the matter is.
January is massive for a few clubs. Surely we won't be able to offload more duds to our direct competitors?
I doubt we will. As you say, the fringe players won’t move on to anything better - can’t see Denis, Erwin, Flynn, etc getting another top flight club. Someone may take a punt on Ethan purely based on potential, but that’s about it.
As most have said, our recruitment felt a bit flat this season. We signed three players from a club that was relegated…
