  1. "Fitba player gets into bother in town" stories are pretty constant and always have been - and tend to get swept under the carpet (I might be remembering badly - but I don't think Motherwell even made a statement when Calum Slattery was up in court) - so either St Mirren are being very principled about this (and fair play for that) or the Rooney one is a bit higher on the seriousness scale.

I don't have an issue with us having the eastern side of the stadium when playing Rangers but I think we should also have that side when playing Celtic.

How difficult can it be to just split it so the most western team get the west side and the most eastern team get the east side?

It was pretty ridiculous that for the previous finals against Celtic we had to circumnavigate the entirety of Glasgow and approach from the West, particularly when a reasonable proportion of their fans would have been coming from that direction anyway

This is correct of course - when a large proportion of the Motherwell support are coming from Lanarkshire it makes sense that we should always have the east side of the stadium when playing the OF - but it's something I've stopped getting annoyed about.

The simple fact is that the tsunami of shite that would come the way of the SPFL (or SFA if it was the Scottish) if they decided to upend the tradition means that it's not even something that would be considered on any level. There is no real pressure for them to do it and literally no benefit to them if they did.

We've had good and bad times when we're at both ends of the ground over the years and it feels like the East end has been nicer to us recently..

Our semi final trouncing to Aberdeen at Tynecastle 10 (!!!) years ago remains probably the best atmosphere i can remember at a game. If it had been at Hampden it wouldn't have been near it.

The jump for the late extra time winner at Easter Rd in our league cup semi Vs Hearts was top 5 material - and the overall atmosphere was brilliant at a full ground.

I'm for a bit of discretion being used for Semi-finals. If Motherwell and St Johnstone played in a semi-final for example - I'd much rather it was Tynecastle or Easter Rd than an echoing Hamden as we had in our Scottish cup semi a few years back.

I think getting to Hampden itself has become a thing/sign of success and so managers/players (and media teams) prefer it.

Aye, I mean, you're going to have to beat one or both of them to win the thing, so drawing Rangers later today and hoping Aberdeen could somehow overcome Celtic in the other tie wouldn't be the worst scenario.

Rangers are far from unbeatable (as we have very recently proven), but even 11 players off of Celtic's bench  could provide formidable opposition, such is their current strength in depth.

Giving Rangers another semi final humbling, followed by rag dolling Aberdeen in the final in similar fashion to how we disposed of them the last time we met at Hampden would be a satisfactory route to silverware imo.

Whatever happens in the draw, we're long odds to make the final and even longer to win it and that's fine. I'll settle for us turning up with the attitude we had in the 2 Semi's under Robinson. No inferiority complex.

  5. I'm honestly not bothered who we get in any semi-final - you're at the point where you've got a chance to win something and to actually do that, you need (if you're Motherwell) to play above yourself and in all likelihood beat one or both of the OF to do it.

If we draw Celtic later and get comfortably beaten at Hampden in November (or if we somehow get to the final and get beaten there) - we've still met (by *September*) one of the 3 McMahon tests for the club not going imminently bust ("sell a player, high league finish or a cup run") and more importantly, we've had some fun getting there.

A game like the other night - exciting cup tie under the lights, Fir Park bouncing, last minute winner is what it's all about - it's literally where the fun is when you've been in the same league for 40 years.

Lastly - we've probably been more competitive with Rangers and Celtic than we have been with Aberdeen over the past couple of years under Kettlewell - so maybe we should leave Aberdeen for the final.

See, to be honest, this isn’t the kind of thing I get annoyed about. Maybe if it was the 25th minute, but at that stage in the game, and it’s through a desperation to win, it doesn’t bother me (I’d probably quite like it if the boot was on the other foot 🤫).

At the time I actually found it quite funny - I love any type of shithousing and scuffing up the penalty spot was kind of pathetic but good - certainly better than just shouting "miss ya bastart!" during the run up.

Randomly I was thinking about Graeme Smith taking both his gloves off to tie his laces after Nancy got their penalty over there and then putting them back on *really* slowly - he took about 5 mins and it worked.

    Us all??

    Kelly was shite for years.

I've seen that a few teams haven't updated their playbook and are still trying the big inswinger corner that had Kelly in tears last season - Ox has been happily plucking them out of the air.

Last night is a good example of what we seem to be doing better post-Kelly - we aren't giving away free goals in tight games. If someone does what Moult did, then you just get on with it - then look what Kelly did against Morton in the cup earlier in the year and you see the difference.

I'm actually not convinced that Ox is a brilliant keeper or anything like that - he just feels like a good solid pro and that is a big upgrade for us.

  8. If you deleted the first 45 mins from your memory and started from the minute the first goal went in, it was a good open cup tie - but that first half man. We didn't start great and looked really tentative - passing was abysmal, which was all the more annoying as one of the best passers of the ball in the league was twiddling his thumbs further up the pitch watching balls being shelled over the top.

Moult scoring a Moult goal was crushingly inevitable - but I'm genuinely impressed that we didn't allow that to put us off our stride - we were immediately back on the front foot and were pushing for the winner and that shows something good about the team I think.

I don't know what I'd want to see again first - Moses wee dribble for the penalty or Zach Robinson putting Sibbald on his arse with a brilliant trick. Subs were made at a good time for us - and everyone that came on made a decent contribution.

To win a tight game like that in front of a bigger crowd is really satisfying - great support down from Dundee BTW - hopefully at least some of the extra home support are back next Saturday to see KVV score a KVV goal (and another Motherwell win).

PS - no VAR was f**king glorious.
