Oh is it at the Allianz? That will be the title race over then, after a 5-0 win to Bayern.

Yip in Munich. They’re a strange team this season, utterly brilliant in the Champs league and poor in the Bundesliga.  I was really hoping Freiburg/Union Berlin would keep up with them and Dortmund to keep it more interesting.

Me and some pals have/had a yearly football weekend in Germany, at least until Covid struck - 2-3 games over the course of a weekend, usually involving a fair bit of travelling and a lot of beer. Really looking forward to being able to do it again soon.

A few teams have stood out: Mannheim and Bochum are two examples. But the best of all was Freiburg. A cracking old stadium which they've now sadly moved from, a great supporters club/bar where we spent a good few hours of the evening chatting and drinking with their fans as Bayern Munich lost on TV, much to their amusement, and a city that was both beautiful and fun as a night out. I couldn't;t claim to be a fervent fan or anything, but they're always the first result I check.

I was based near Freiburg with my work in the late 90’s for 4 months and I can only echo the above.. Brilliant stadium and fans, fantastic small city and summer weather is almost Mediterranean like. Great beer too.
Regret never getting back to a game at that stadium but have visited the area with my family a few times (Europapark close by was a firm favourite with the kids).

Always look out for their results.

Not roads specifically, but car parks. When I go to a busy supermarket that has a big car park, I will park well away from the store entrance where there are loads of empty parking spaces, and will always park so there are empty spaces either side of me. Today I did that, one empty space on the passengers sides, and at least 5 empty spaces on the drivers side. I come back to find a car parked tight up against me on the drivers side, with still several empty spaces the other side of that car. Why not park with a gap when there are more than enough spaces available to do that?

It’s like when you go to a toilet with a row of 6 or 7 urinals all free…and someone pulls up next to you to p1ss

Yup, this sounds familiar. I've got a few mates who were really looking forward to working from home - productivity had shot up, better work/life balance, less money on commute - but now their bosses are heavily hinting that they should expect to be in the building five days a week. One isn't even heavily hinting, one has outright told him that he wants staff back in as he likes going around the office....

Move on then sounds an unhealthy environment. There has been hints from the usual HR departments and directors of a return to the office for ‘health reasons’ in our organisation, ‘it’s not healthy to be stuck your house’....lot of p1sh. I’m hopeful of wfh 3 days a week and if they tell me I’m going back into the office 5 days I’ll walk out.

    I've just finished 89.

It was pretty good. A decent blend of mindless violence and off the wall humour.

I'm kinda disappointed that I'll never see these characters again.

I’m going to watch it Friday to Friday, something to look forward to with a few beers. Like you say the characters are excellent. I’ll probably end up watching 83 again after it’s all finished.

I took your advice and I just up to the end of episode 5. It's really starting to pick up now. I should have the rest of the season finished in the next few days.

Good stuff it continues to get better. Still prefer D83 but this is still a good watch. Looking forward to 89 next month.

is it the Seat Leon you can get which is basically identical to a Polo and all? think there was a thing that you can get a Seat Leon with a trim that's nigh on a carbon copy of a high spec Polo but for several grand cheaper.

edit: might be an Ibiza come to think of it

Think the Leon is based on the Golf...Ibiza is based on the polo.

Been doing the rounds on Twitter. Check the size of Leon Goretska pre and post lockdown! I’ve got bigger too but that’s mainly around the midriff.

That first picture is Bayern’s old strip so although it was pre lockdown I think it was going back at least a year...not January 2020 as the media reported it.

Partly true. The USA has a huge population.

That they have such high absolute numbers shouldn't be a surprise.

USA has about 4 times the population of Germany...yet deaths in Germany linked to CV about 4500,  USA about at 41000.

Augustiner Helles too... probably my favourite. Your top two are quality.

  11. Just seen this and dont  know if you’ve been yet but it’s an area I’ve visited many times and we as a family love it there.

North west of Munich you have gorgeous walled towns such as Dinkeksbuhl and Rothenburg

South west you have Fussen the famous  neuschwanstein castle. The town of Fussen is nice to have a wander about.

South of Munich is one of my favourite chocolate box villages, Mittenwald, and the ski resort of Garmisch...where Winter Olympics took place in the 1930’s and Germany’s highest mountain. Take the cable car up.

as mentioned before South West of Munich about 2 hours from Munich is Berchtesgadener land. Truly breathtaking lakes (take the boat out in lake konigisee), visit the eagles nest, Ruhpolding, Inzell, Berchtesgaden...with it’s dark history.

My understanding of what you call ".. the Switzerland model... " is that Switzerland does not have an immigration problem, because they don't let anyone in.

Switzerland is not a member of the EU, so they can get away with it.

Who, other than an idiot, wants to be like Switzerland..., the only useful thing they've done in 1000 years is the invention of the cuckoo clock.

I’m sure the cuckoo clock was invented in Germany, in the Black Forest region.

  13. Peritonsillar abscess in throat...GP sent me away telling me to buy some throat sweets. The pain was excruciating, couldn’t swallow, ended up calling nhs24 later that night. No over the counter pain killers were helping.

Got sent to hospital immediately and Doc checked me out and seen the abscess...she couldn’t believe gp missed it and said if I’d left it another 24 hours it could have become life threatening.

they got a huge needle and burst it...

I wouldn’t wish that pain on anyone, truly horrendous.

Alcatraz aswell, the tour boats basically leave from Fishermans Wharf and its well worth a few hours of your time

Do the evening tour of Alcatraz if you can. We did the day tour then a few days later the evening one when it was dark. Both were excellent but the evening one was more eerie.  Fantastic city.

    They were ridiculous cars emoji38.png

I had five from around 1997 to 2006. Three 1.9s and two 1.6s. I found you could throw the 1.6s around corners better, though the 1.9s acceleration was spaff-inducing, a big engine in a car which weighed about the same as a box of paper tissues.

    Glorious.

Weren't they just fantastic hot hatches though. The scariest thing about them was taking a corner at speed and to not ever lift off the accelerator or you were a gonner.

They loved being pushed and pushed.

I had both and the 1.9 was the one to go for. I remember someone was kicking about in a 205gti with the Mi16 engine (think it was the 2.0 16v from a 405??)) installed. Mental.

Cousin had a golf gti mk2 and would never have swapped it.
