  1. Are there any small cinemas in Edinburgh where you're allowed to drink? I'm meaning something similar to the Grosvenor cinema in Ashoton Lane in Glasgow

Dominion in Morningside has a bar AFAIK so I imagine you can take booze into the cinema. Also I'm pretty sure the Cameo in Tollcross has a bar too.

  2. The complete box set is out next month for £25. I've just Pre-ordered mine as I'm suffering badly from a FNL hangover. I've just not got any interest in starting another show quite yet, would rather watch this all over again first.

Where have you pre-ordered from? Got the first series ages ago but a full box set would be brilliant. Think I've already watched this 3 times over.

  3. This might be a daft question...

I've got a Ted Baker suit that was pretty much off-the-rack from Slaters a couple of years ago, but it's a nice piece of gear. The only problem is the trousers are quite "baggy". Like they were made for a bloke with fatter legs than me. Would a standard place that does alterations be able to make the trouser legs skinnier, or can they only really adjust the length? I've never had anything altered before!

    Cheers pals.

Aye just to echo what the others said. I've had a couple of suit trousers adjusted like this, just ask to have them tapered and they should be able to pin them in the shop for you to see what they look like before they adjust them. Cost me about £16 IIRC.

  4. My foot is still annoyingly sore from a challenge at football (kicked the underside of someone's foot really hard) in a game last week and it's taking a frustratingly long amount of time to heal no matter how much I've resting, icing, Ibuprofen I apply.

I bit the bullet when saw the A&E and it's just as I expected bad bruising. The downside is I'll probably miss my cup final at the Spartans pitch tomorrow night.

    <<<< Verge of Tears :(

I did that once. Really really painful and my foot got really swollen but was fine after a couple of weeks off the pitch.

  5. Yeah the course was from the list of SAAS funded courses. Was just unsure of what 'some funding means'. Do they tend to hand out the full 3.5k or some of it?

Cheers for the bursary link, that's definitely worth pursuing :thumsup2

You should get the full 3.5k I think. I basically applied through the uni for the SAAS funding but it took SAAS ages to get back to me so I phoned SAAS directly, spoke to a guy for 5 minutes and he approved it over the phone pretty much there and then as my course was on the list as well. Then you just show the uni finance department the letter/email you get confirming the award and they should just knock it off the cost.

  6. Says on the SAAS website that they'll pay "up to" 3.5k to support certain postgrad courses. In terms of courses that I'd actually be interested in doing, the best I'm finding is about that cost for a one year masters.

Question, if any of you ken, is what does 'up to' mean in this case? There's no point me in applying for it, then being told I'm getting a grand or something and having to stump up. I'm skint as f**k

    Any insight appreciated chaps.

I did a Masters in 2011/12 and got some funding towards it. They seem to have a list of supported courses for each year for Scottish post-grad students and if your course is on the list then they can give you some funding. I also got extra funding from a trust called Carnegie-Cameron:

    http://www.carnegie-trust.org/our-award-schemes/postgraduate-schemes.html

I got about 8 grand in the end so its definitely worth looking in to and there does seem to be a lot better funding for Scottish Students looking to study a post-grad in Scotland.

  7. Council has changed bin pick up day and put it fortnightly..

Seeing as they are providing half the service I should provide half the council tax.

    Wanks

Guess who bought a flat pack thing with a shit load of rubbish

People are right on the money tonight. My council (Edinburgh, knobs) has always been fortnightly since I've lived here but they recently changed it from a Monday to a Friday, except they picked it up one Monday, sent out the new pickup details which just completely missed out a 2 weekly pick-up making it almost 4 weeks between pickups. The street was full of overflowing bins. Useless p***ks.

  8. Now that I know I'm going to be in Edinburgh for the forseeable future I'm looking to join a golf club somewhere. Any suggestions would be welcome. I'm looking for somewhere reasonably priced but quite happy to pay a bit of a premium for a good standard of course.

Going to be based just off Leith Walk but got the car so don't mind a travel. Any suggestions appreciated!

  9. The channel 4 man was on top form, never raised his voice or came away with any pish. Maybe the fact that hes english made a world of difference to his thinking as he doesn't stand to loose if there is no old firm news dominating the sports headlines next season. the reason in my experience the scots "journalists" have been so far up rangers ring they've not seen daylight for many a year.

Best quote of it all " if sky money is more important than the game and the fans then we may aswell turn ibrox and celtic park into a giant car park"

Can't agree with this enough. The Daily Record boy was doing his best at sitting on the fence over everything. Gordon Smith was almost following the Craig Burley school of arguing when he started banging on about league titles and lack of ambition for other clubs further down the division.

Why these guys can't grasp why the fans want what they want is beyond me. Sure most of us don't like a large majority of all things associated with Rangers but it is the principle that is causing this fan reaction. Rangers should be treated like any other club, regardless of size would.

You get liquidated, a team from the lower division replaces you and a vacancy comes available in SFL3. You can then apply for this vacancy if you wish and be accepted into SFL3.

This process might not be in the rule-book but you can be damn sure that if it was St. Mirren, Kilmarnock, Alloa, Partick, Elgin etc. that this is the process they would have to go through.

  10. Fantastic TV series, managed to get though all the episodes in a few days last week.

Rachel and Donna are both lovely.

  11. My sleeping pattern is absolutely fucked. In order to get back to normal, I must stay up for a ful 24 hours, go to bed at about 7pm and wake up at a reasonable time the next morning. I decided that tonight was the night to break the vicious cycle of staying up all night and sleeping all day. It's 'only' 5am and I'm going to have to stay up for AT LEAST another 11/12 hours in order for my plan to be successful. I am absolutely knackered and I fear I may have to kick my bad habit another day.

Join the club. A week off from uni before starting my dissertation has ruined my bodyclock as well. I'm currently trying to push through for a 7.30 tee off on the golf course which should be fine. The real struggle comes when I'm back and having to read articles for my dissertation.

  12. I've followed the thread closely, read every single post, until today - I've been out at work, came back to check on The Great Love Of My Life Mark II (this thread) when I noticed I'd missed too many threads to read through. Which is my long-winded way of saying sorry if this has already been posted.

The latest BBC Rangers story is about the SFA accepting the court ruling. If I were Rangers, I'd be shitting myself at the following 2 statements:

"The right of appeal is now open to the Scottish FA through the Court of Session. However, by so doing, the very principles on which the Scottish FA - and, for that matter, Uefa and Fifa - are founded, namely football disciplinary matters being dealt with within its own jurisdiction, would be fundamentally compromised. "

    and

"Therefore, it is our intention to accede to Lord Glennie's request and refer the matter back to the Appellate Tribunal, which will consider the remaining sanctions open to it. "

    They wouldn't. Would they?

I think these statements could well prove to be interesting. I think IIRC that the court recommended overturning the transfer ban as it wasn't in the SFA's rules if you will whereas slapping them with a big fine or removing their registration was. I think Rangers have played a risky game by going down this route as it could go either way with a big fine (no impact to them in admin) or removal of registration (Big impact).

Knowing our luck the SFA will shite it and just fine them.

  13. Some facts

The SPL has the 7th highest top flight average attendance in Europe.

Average attendances in the SPL are bigger than the top flights of Russia, Belgium, Portugal, Poland, Norway, Austria, Denmark, Ukraine, Sweden, Greece, Romainia, Czech Rep.

If you exclude the Old Firm's average home gates, the SPL would still have a higher average gate than the top flights of Denmark, Sweden, Greece, Romania & Czech Rep (and on a par with Austria).

The Scottish First Division has higher average home gates than the top flights in Serbia, Slovakia, Finland, Croatia & Bulgaria.

The Scottish First Division has average gates which are more than 50% higher than the top flight in Ireland.

The Scottish Second Division has higher average gates than the top flights in Moldova, Lithuania, Latvia, Montenegro, Armenia & Georgia.

A good post that I think seems to bypass most of the Scottish Media including Speirs on Saturday which he got rightly ripped to shreds for. I think for a country of our size the attendances we get at matches is quite impressive and you can be sure that most supporters of Non-Old Firm clubs would still stick around even if Rangers do go under even more reporters may go to watch these clubs with a greater chance of winning trophies and without the atmosphere that the old firm bring. Our average attendances (without the Old Firm) would still be very healthy in terms of our standing in Europe and as an attractive proposition to the TV companies.

  14. Could someone with a knowledge of probability let me know the odds of picking three numbers correctly on a four ball lottery, with numbers between 1 and 30?

I've somehow managed it two weeks in a row and I'm wondering if it's some sort of groundbreaking feat or if it's stastically not that unlikely. Thanks.

Probability of doing it 1 week:

    (1/30*1/29*1/28*1/27= 1/657720)*4=1/164430

Odds of doing 2 weeks in a row

    (1/164430)^2=1/27037224900

I think thats right anyway, so statistically very unlikely.
