1. I actually feel a bit sorry for JaMarcus and hope he does well. He obviously recognises that he's nearly ruined his life and, by the look of it, is working hard to try and get another shot. Quotes from him today suggesting he wants to find a team with a veteran QB that he can sit behind which shows a wee bit of humility sorely lacking from his Raiders days.

Unfortunately in sport, especially America, mud sticks and he's going to have to work harder than anyone out there to prove he's worth the risk.

  2. I think that the QB draft class is really disappointing this year and I'd hate to be a franchise in need of a star. Although, having said that, it wouldn't surprise me if Smith, Barkley or even Glennon go early.

Really interesting when I was listening to Rich Eisen podcast and was it Greg Cossell who said that one team picked a QB number 1 overall despite him being 29 on their draft board! Got to be JaMarcus Russell eh?

  3. Seahawks, 49ers and Chiefs winners for me.

As for my team I'm still undecided although the acquisition of Dumervil and, to a lesser extent, Canty have made me feel a bit better. Defensively I think we will be hoping to pick up a couple in the draft and also hoping that Ladarius Webb can stay healthy and I'd like to see Courtney Upshaw step up if given an opportunity.

Offensively, losing Boldin is a massive blow and Jones and Smith will really need to step up unless Ozzie and Harbaugh have something up their sleeves in the draft. I'm still worried about losing Pitta as I feel he and Boldin were Flacco's best options down the stretch and to lose them both would be dissapointing. I worry about the options Flacco is going to have next year and with so much transition all over the roster it's going to be very hard to emulate last years achievements.

  4. Don't know how I feel about the Boldin trade. He was immense for us in the Superbowl run but he's not getting any younger.

Will be more disappointed if we let Pitta and Reed leave though. Can't help but think we are strengthening our main rivals whilst weakening our roster. I understand the cap problems and hopefully Harbaugh and Newsome have something up their sleeves either in the draft or free agency to prevent us from slipping away from the main contenders.

  5.

Sounds increasingly likely he'll still be on the board but increasingly unlikely Baltimore will select him...

Te'o fails to erase doubts with slow NFL combine dash

By Chris Wesseling

Published: February 25, 2013 at 11:21 AM PST

Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o made a great first impression during NFL Scouting Combine interviews over the weekend. One NFL coach went so far as to tell NFL Network's Kimberly Jones that Te'o was a "rock star " during his interview.

Te'o will need that goodwill after turning in a disappointing 40-yard dash in linebackers drills Monday in Indianapolis. A stiff Te'o officially clocked in at 4.82 seconds after NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock opined that the linebacker could lock up a first-round draft spot with a 4.70.

To put Te'o's run in perspective, recall that 346-pound Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Dontari Poe nearly equaled that time at 4.87 last year. Checking in smaller than expected at 241 pounds, Te'o needed to crack 4.75 to erase doubts about his athleticism and ability to play all three downs. Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh was less than impressed

Te'o might start falling on draft boards behind LSU's Kevin Minter , who officially was clocked at 4.81 in the 40. Several respected analysts have noted from film-watching that Minter did a much better job of shedding blocks at the line of scrimmage last season.

The star of the linebacker dashes was Missouri's Zaviar Gooden , who carried his sculpted physique to an official fastest time of 4.47. With the NFL moving toward athletic, rangy linebackers capable of covering half of the field, Gooden should be a hot commodity in the 2013 NFL Draft . Coming off a strong Senior Bowl performance , Gooden's stock already was on the rise. Georgia's Cornelius Washington was second-fastest at 4.55, and Florida's Jon Bostic was third at 4.61.

Georgia linebacker Alec Ogletree met expectations with a 4.70-second 40. His background check will be more telling than the position drills after a college suspension and a recent DUI arrest .

Thanks for that. I still think he'd be worth a punt but John knows best!
  6. Firstly welcome to the Forum. It's a great place full of knowledgeable NFL fans.

Te'o I still think will go in the top 20 this year. It all really depends on how he interviews at the combine.

I agree. Rich Eisen was talking to Mike Mayock about it on his podcast and he said he'd spoke with a number of owners and GM's about Te'o and found a slighly favourable split. I think without the controversy he'd have been a top 10 pick and I feel enough clubs will be willing to take a chance and it may even give them leverage to get him on a cheaper contract than may have been possible earlier.

I'm a bit worried about us for next year with so much uncertainty over so many players, Reed, Pitta and Boldin to name but a few. I believe Flacco will definately stay but it depends how much a hit it has on the cap with regards to what we can do with the other guys. Will certainly be interesting.

  7. Anyone think Te'o will drop low enought to let the Ravens draft him? I know it's a long shot but I think he'd be well suited in Baltimore despite his off-field problems.

By the way, I have only just discovered this area of the forum. I mostly post on the junior football area but have been a big NFL and Raven's fan for years.
