A lot is being made of Elgin's home record, and rightly so, but let's not forget our away record is sensational and better than their home record.

If we do the things we do well then we will win the game but everyone connected with us knows this is a tough game in store.

Hale has been a revelation at Elgin and its nice to see an unheralded name come in to the league and make an impact as opposed to the same auld dinosaurs.

I'll go for a dramatic 3-2. A late Adam Brown winner after a first half hat-trick from Matty Aitken.

    Own goal then?

    I'll go 2-1 Elgin

I went along too as I live nearby. Just curious- was it your first visit and you mean the slope? Or do you mean it was bumpy? The surface looked reasonable to me - guys standing next to me said it was much better than Saturday, when it cut up badly after all the rain.

The slope(s) did take me by surprise I'll be honest - must be quite an advantage for the home team I'd say; playing on that every second week you'd get used to  the run.

I know it is winter, but there really wasn't very much grass on it; very claggy in patches - not blaming anyone; growing good grass at this time of year is very difficult. Elgin's pitch can be "a challenge" at times.

  3. Bearing in mind I've had 4 hours sleep this might not be a true reflection!

First - the pitch. Wow, just wow.

Moving swiftly along.. the game was pretty even, Bonnyrigg didn't give Elgin a second on the ball and the whole game became a poorly controlled 100mph dash, only broken by silly fouls and waiting for the ball to drop out of the sky through the blinding floodlights.

Goalkeeping error for the first; McHale shouted for the cross, came and got it, then dropped it, resulting in a simple finish <sigh>.

2nd was a great hit, but Bonnyrigg should never have got in a position to make the cross.

Too many individual errors for Elgin when pressed.

I'm now off to pretend I'm working whilst seeing how many coffees I can drink in a day.....

Agree on the comments about Ross Draper. Elgin look a solid side now and Tuesday night will I think determine how our season goes. A win on the road would boost confidence no end.

Google maps dug out to enable another ground to be ticked off...

..on a Tuesday?  I must be mad!

    No pitch inspection planned?

Hmm.  I'd be very surprised if that is the case.  Temperature dropped pretty quickly here this afternoon.  Forecasting -5 overnight and barely rising to zero by mid-day.

I will be (pleasantly) surprised if the game is on.

  6. The pitch was pretty damp on the last home game, and won't have dried much since.  Been frosty, but not too hard so fingers crossed... although the bit in front of the stand never sees the sun so not overly hopeful.

If the game is off at least that'll mean our new management team will be in place for our next game which would be good.

  7. My eyes are still hurting!

Dreadful game in my opinion.  Elgin deservedly ahead at half time due to us being the slightly less rubbish of the two.

Second half starts and we decide to sit back and watch Forfar being truly dreadful in front of us.. real attack v defence stuff.

If we'd have had a proper go at them I think we would have got a few more, and to be honest they were never going to score. I'm not sure who was making the calls last night (I suspect nobody) but when two of your midfielders are on a booking, with an "unpredictable" referee, then it might be wise to sub at least one of them... we held off our subs until after Forfar had made all 5 of their's!  Maybe the management just don't fancy/trust those we have on the bench.

I used to always fear Forfar coming up against them; very surprised last night just how bad they were.  Not easy being an Elgin fan just now - but worse, much worse to be a Forfar fan - much respect to those that traveled to watch that dross last night.

  8. One reason that this Conference bollocks has reared its head is that the LL told the B teams they could GTF as, when European matches were on, the Bs fielded greatly weakened teams and got thumped.  When no Euro legs on they fielded very strong teams resulting in a totally skewed league depending on what other fixtures were scheduled when you played them.

Completely farcical, a situation that won't change with the proposed setup.

  9. A couple of clubs have enquired about Kane but their offers were "nowhere near" what Elgin are looking for.

I'd say £50,000 for a proven goal scorer isn't bad these days, if that is what City are looking for.  And before anyone jumps on me for that - I agree that it is a crazy sum, but given what other players are going for, Hester at £50k isn't steep.

  10. Just watched the highlights - well done Warriers TV, a decent package.

Not sure about the Stenny 3rd goal.  The assistant gave the goal, but looking at the footage there is no way he could see if it crossed the line; a post and the clearing defender blocking any view.  Did both the Ref and assistant have no doubt it had crossed?  I doubt that.

All in all looked a good game with a couple of cracking goals each.

Programme from Hearts v Third Lanark on 9th January 1965. Hearts won 3-1. A fairly solid Hearts team there, going by the team lines, with no obvious stars, apart from maybe Jim Cruickshank and Alan Gordon, perhaps. Willie Wallace didn't become a "star" until he went to Parkhead, imo. Evan Williams, the Thirds goalie, also ended up at Celtic. Doug Baillie at centre half. The Kilgannon up front is perhaps a brother of Johnny and Jim Kilgannon. Looking at the league table, despite having only 7 points from 18 points, Thirds were by no means isolated at the bottom of the table, only a point behind Airdrie - with a game in hand - and 3 behind Dundee United. Alas, Thirds were at the start of a notorious run of 21 successive league defeats, interrupted by a 5-1 Scottish Cup win at Telford Street, followed by 2 draws and a defeat in the second replay from eventual finalists, Dunfermline Athletic, in the next round. Third Lanark then went on to lose their opening 5 sectional Summer Cup games before signing off with a 5-2 win over Airdrie.

This makes me feel so old!

As a young lad on Mull in the 70s I was always "Jim Cruikshank" when playing in goal.  I assume he was still a youngster in 65. (Ah - just Googled - he was 24 in '65)

Happy, worry-free days for young AM.
