  1. So looks like Frisby is our replacement 10 then! Also I dont like the move of taking off a 2nd row, bring on a back row and pushing Harley into the 2nd 60 minutes into a game, as if Harley gets injured were struggling for anyone else to play 2nd row! Surely we have someone knocking about that can play 2nd row, or start Fagerson and have Harley on the bench

Jackson to 10, Seymour to 15, Jones on the wing I'd guess for the backs.

Would imagine Fagerson will be 2nd row cover.

  3. Scotland make six changes for French Test

Head Coach Gregor Townsend has made six changes to the starting Scotland side for this Sunday’s NatWest 6 Nations match against France at a sold-out BT Murrayfield Stadium (11 February, kick-off 3pm) – live on BBC.

14570638_2.jpgThe changes are split evenly between the backs and forwards with scrum-half Greig Laidlaw, wing Sean Maitland and centre Pete Horne promoted from the bench into the back-line, while lock Grant Gilchrist and back-row Ryan Wilson do likewise into the pack.

Tighthead prop Simon Berghan is the only starting addition from outwith last weekend’s match-day 23, becoming available at the end of a six-week suspension.

Scotland Head Coach Gregor Townsend, said: “As a group we’re delighted to be playing at home in front of another sell-out crowd at BT Murrayfield and are looking forward to putting in a performance that can energise our supporters.

“To do that we need to out-work the opposition and be more accurate in a number of aspects of our play.

“We’ve seen a response from the players in training this week and that needs to continue into and through the 80-plus minutes of the match because France will pose a massive and immensely-physical challenge.”

Laidlaw is reunited with stand-off Finn Russell at half-back, with this Sunday’s Test the scrum-half’s first Scotland start since being injured in the corresponding fixture last year in Paris, with British & Irish Lions selection and subsequent injuries keeping the former captain out of contention until last weekend’s return as a replacement in Cardiff.

Maitland comes in for injured Sale Sharks wing McGuigan (hamstring) to join Stuart Hogg and Tommy Seymour in the back-three, while Horne is deployed in midfield in place of Chris Harris (who joins the bench), with Huw Jones returning to the outside-centre role he has occupied in his previous 11 Tests for Scotland.

The remaining changes see Gilchrist and Wilson start in place of Ben Toolis (who moves to the bench) and Cornell du Preez, who drops out of the match-day 23.

Jonny Gray, Hamish Watson and captain John Barclay are reselected to complete the back-five of the scrum, while Stuart McInally and Gordon Reid return to join Berghan in the front-row.

Worcester Warriors back-row David Denton and in-form and uncapped outside back Blair Kinghorn take the places vacated by Wilson and Maitland on the bench.

  4. Jonny signing on again is proof that Santa's real!

His career tackle stats to date are:

    Attempts 1,433

    Completed 1,403

    Missed 30

Read that again - 30 missed out of a total of 1,433, that's a success rate of 98%.

We left it late but couldn't get a room on Belfast for the Pro12 final so think they'd struggle with the crowds a World Cup would attract.

There was a big golf tournament on and some other special event that weekend, both organised well in advance, that's why accommodation was so scarce.   Plenty of it, just all booked well in advance.

  6. Very impressed by the Cheetah's, considering they are going to get their internationals back us add in players from the Currie Cup and they will be there or there abouts at the end of the season.

And also that they've already played a full season. Said from the start they should be judged from next season, not this one.

Bet cockerill is delighted at getting Davies again after that farcical performance v Leinster....

They're away to an Irish team with Davies as ref, what could possibly go wrong...

Glasgow game pretty scrappy so far, not surprising given the weather. Still not clicking on the line outs which cost them 3pts at the end of the half.

Ref had just given the Warriors a general warning for that penalty, I'd have gone to the lineout/maul after the warning  and that close to the line in the hope of getting a try and a yellow card if we'd re-offended.   Could've been a completely different second half if they had, thankfully they took the points.

  9. Only big concern is why his move down south was so short. Would love to see the big fella back to something like his best. He was a wrecking ball in scrums and in the loose before the lions. Did think it was odd that he was watching the game at Scotstoun the other week rather than be at his club. Really hope it works out.....just need big leone to come home n we will have the band back together

I read somewhere earlier this week that he didn't have a club this season - which I thought was even odder.
  10. Actually dont mind finn moving as it will broadenbhus horizons and presumably bring in a tidy transfer fee. He does however have to somewhere that will suit his style of play. No point in a side signing finn just to play warrenball.

Not sure about a fee, isn't he out of contract come season's end?

Bit late to the party but Friday nights performance was simply delightful, granted Munster were not at full strength but neither were we, off the top of my head Alex Dunbar, Huw Jones, Tommy Seymour, Fraser Brown, Johnny Gray all didnt play who you'd expect to be starters when fit.

Racing 92 can get in the fucking sea. I never want Finn Russell to leave.

Stuart Hogg wasn't missed at all...

    :)

  12. Stuart hogg n Johnny gray going to be doing a training session with the Stirling county youth players prior to the Glasgow friendly v Northampton. Nice touch n all the kids are mad excited about it. Some of the embra players did same towards end of last season at a time when they probably wouldn't have felt like it but they were all brill with the kids. Wee things like that have a real positive impact on the youngsters. Good that rugby still has that sort of interaction between grass roots n the superstars.

My mate has had his two boys attending the Warriors training camps during the holidays for years and he has always been amazed by the amount of times that senior players have been there, especially during the summer camps when the players are effectively still on holiday.

It's one of the things rugby is still getting right. The embra boys last season were fantastic with the lads and it was done as a live training session with no media in attendance. Aside from the boost of meeting their heroes n seeing what's possible if they stay motivated, the pros bring a level of technical skills to the sessions that really help whether it be passing rucking etc.

It's not just the kids, the interaction with the fans on match days (young and not so young!) is brilliant, too.

Will the third game always be at Murrayfield? Or could they play it at Hampden or somewhere? If they are going to give season ticket holders for both clubs a ticket they can't have the third game at Scotstoun or Myreside.

Scotstoun would be fine, Warriors are around the 4,500 ST holder mark and I don't think Embra have anywhere near enough to take it to capacity never mind exceed it.

Ah that would make sense tbf

Having said that, and thinking it through a bit, unless they're going to play their games in batches then the SA teams will play all of their matches on a Saturday to ensure they get equal treatment coming to Europe suggesting at least one home Saturday fixture, possibly 2 depending on where the other SA game is being played.

  15. 2 minutes ago, dogmc said:

Seen on Facebook a few people saying it's Saturday only fixtures. Can't imagine that's going to go down well with season ticket holders who still play or watch their club sides on a sat. Being selfish I like having the fixtures spread over the weekend so I can watch a few different games. Hoping this is just a social media rumour.

I think they're misinterpreting the statement with Saturday fixtures, my reading is that the games in SA will all be Saturdays with a minimum of a week before the fixture to let teams have time to acclimatise e.g. play at home on a Friday, in Sa the following Saturday, then at home the following Friday. No need to panic (until we see the fixture list, anyway!).

I saw one suggestion which would work in terms of not losing out on the numbers of games on your season ticket, have the third Embra derby game available to ST holders of both clubs. Would mean travelling to Murrayfield/Scotstoun for the extra game but it's not as if Scotstoun's shitey pitch didn't cause a bit of travelling for Warriors fans in the past...
