[Who's Going To Uni?]

I know a guy that's been working for years in hospitals that has been turned down for a place in a different uni, you're far from alone in it I'm afraid. I did an access course at North Glasgow that gave me a guaranteed place because they have a link with Caley. I was just damned lucky with mine!

Thanks for this, I phoned earlier and they said they are not accepting people who don't already work within the NHS as they are working through a big back log just now. So I'll just have to keep checking the website to see if any job come up that I can apply for. Hopefully I will get into Uni when the clearing starts in August.

I'm a second year just now. Numbers are being cut left, right and centre so competition is really fierce for places. God knows why, there's barely any jobs at the end of it. My 3rd year friends are finding that out the hard way at the moment.

Have you considered getting some HCA experience? I don't know if you've been keeping up with the news in the wake of the Francis report, but apparently nurses don't care enough and the suggestion is that potential student nurses should be working up to a year as an HCA before getting to uni. I don't agree with that at all, but that's another issue. The auxiliary bank opens twice a year for NHSGG&C and it's open at the moment, but applications shut in the next few days, so if you're thinking along those lines, get an application in quickly.

What have you been doing up until now?

I have been studying Health Care at college for the past 3 years, the first 2 years I done placements in care homes and I have just recently finished a 3 month hospital based placement.

I got an unsuccessful for Adult Nursing from Glasgow Caledonian University today. Saying I lack experience though so do the majority of my class and most of them got in.
