  1. Yoker Athletic have granted a testimonial match for the club’s longest serving player, Gary Bissland.

Midfielder Gary has been with the club for 17 years and continues his relationship with the club after joined the coaching staff this summer. To mark his commitment to the Whe Ho, Yoker Legends will take on Clydebank Legends at Holm Park

Gary joined the club in 2004 after leaving the very successful Goldenhill BC at U21 level.

Gary stuck with the Whe Ho through relegation and promotion teams and is long overdue this special day.

Former manager Graeme George George will boss the Yoker Legends team which will include ex-players from across the years.

In the opposite dugout, the Bankies will be led by Budgie McGhie, the club’s former manager who has enlisted the likes of Darian MacKinnon and Gordon Moffat in a strong squad. "McGhie says: “In delighted to be able to help Gary mark his playing career at Yoker.

“He was always a tough opponent and I’m sure he’ll do well as a coach.”

Gary’s testimonial takes place at Holm Park on Sunday, July 18. Kick off 2pm. On behalf of Gary we would like to invite friends, family, former players, ex officials or anyone that wants to enjoy this special day.

A special thanks to Holm Park Facilities, Yoker Athletic FC and Clydebank FC as well as all the players and coaching staff helping to celebrate the occasion.

Well done the boys today. 9 goals in two games! Maybole did us a good turn beating Muirkirk and Leven losing their first game of the season keeps things tight amongst the top 4. A good day!

Today's match away to Forth Wanderers has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

A draw into a defeat followed by league favourites this week could this be a two week window that has defined Yokers season?

Its ok walking over the lower end of the league teams but when it gets to the top end teams that’s when the big points at at stake.

Yoker will now play Ardeer Thistle away on Saturday due to our intended opponents facing a replay in the Scottish Cup.

The Whe Ho were totally dominant from start to finish, great all-round team performance.  We now have a Facebook page & after every game there a fairly in-depth report on that days game.  I'm not a betting man but the last odds I saw had us at 3-1 for the league with Vale of Clyde out at 9-2.

This Saturday's scheduled match away to Newmains JFC has been postponed due to asbestos being found in the clubhouse at Victoria Park

  6. You are correct the new management team only joined in January and became the third management team of the season. They are rebuilding the team and will be in place for next season to continue the job. The also have never had the opportunity to play at Holm Park as the refurbishment started in January. Playing all our games effectively away from home undoubtedly didn't help our season but hopefully the return to Holm Park will give us a much better opportunity next season.

I must also add congratulations to Shettleston who won the matches at the end when it mattered.

I'll have a right good drink when you lot go down. Long overdue since the time you called off games after a week of sunshine claiming a waterlogged pitch during your time in the super first.

Looks like you have already had a right good drink, you clearly just come onto this forum to wind people up going by some of your previous posts and your forum reputation. If we go down we go down and will wish all the best to the teams that didn't.  At least have the balls to name your team instead of hiding behind "Scotland".

I'm sure Lugar will be desperate to play us now given our form at the moment. Because if it's postponed we might have improved by the time it's eventually played! Maybe.

Can anyone in the know say what's to happen re the cover at Holm Park? I had assumed it's coming down but is it to retained and repaired or replaced?

It must be as old at least as that other famous landmark, the Titan crane so maybe it's got a preservation order on it!

The covered stand is being addressed as a priority by HPCFA, the options are to strip back and repair with a slightly different shape or remove and replace altogether.

It is a complete mystery why the referee refused to play the Yoker game at Lugar today

The pitch was soft but perfectly playable in my opinion, there was no surface water and only light rain forecast during the day. The referee arrived 45mins before kick-off and proceeded to bounce the ball all over the park for 15 minutes before calling the game off. The unfortunate side effect is that this was very costly and time consuming for both teams who have it all to do again in March.

As a side note I would like to thank Lugar for their excellent hospitality which they hastily rearranged before we made our trip back to Yoker.

Not been on for a while so here is the latest news.

Maurice George has left the club by mutual consent & Kenney McComish has resigned as coach.

A new management team will be in in place early in the New Year, Peter McKenna & Tam Montgomery from Harmony Row U21s.

On a sadder note, committee member Jimmy "Flash" McMonagal passed away on 17 December, his funeral will be on 28th December at Dalnottar Crematorium at 3.30pm.

Away to Maryhill tomorrow, weather permitting obviously, 1.45pm KO.

Well done to Muirkirk today. A hard team to beat with all giving a shift for each other. They deserved their win.

I don't  get to as many Yoker games as I would wish. Today was my last for the foreseeable future. One of the reasons is this is not the team which truly represents the club I came to see as a boy and which could occasionally punch above its weight in the cups while keeping a respectable league position.

The last two seasons have seen Yoker fall off a cliff with no parachute. I fear it will only get worse.

This current Yoker outfit is a team which would struggle in the lowest amateur division.

They could not make  the most simple pass whereas Muirkirk continually passed through us.

More worryingly this seems to be a club going nowhere with a  Comittee whose aim is survival , certainly not to progress and a non appearing Chairman. Just where is Stevie Frew?  He seems to have disappeared. He can't be "working " all the time surely.

I feel sorry for the new management team because they have taken on a task which I think is beyond them going by their recruitment, tactics and inability to grasp that if you don't lose goals you don't lose games.

I have five or six amateur teams local to me which if put in Yoker strips would out perform the current incumbents. I'll be watching them in preference to Yoker because I think I will see greater commitment to improve than Yoker are showing at present.

Stevie Frew retired from the club at the end of last season but still continues to sponsor indeed providing a set of new strips that you saw yesterday. In terms of the committee perhaps, it's time they stepped aside and let someone else take the club forward. Unfortunately, I doubt there will be a queue of applicants for those particular posts.

I'm beginning to wonder if our win at Wishaw wasn't actually a typo as the results since have been extremely disapointing.

I know it's early but we need to be picking up points not squandering them. I noticed a lot of new faces in the team against the Shire and with a new management team it can take time to settle but we need points not excuses in the next few games.

The new management team inherited a team that lost several players from last season but have done well to bring in new faces. The issue on Saturday  was Yoker had 10 players missing from the squad due to injuries and holidays, not an excuse just a fact.

Who are Yoker groundsharing with this year?

I see from the Clydebank tweet on the website that they are at Maryhill while pitch work is going on.

Someone said to me at the last game of the season that we are at the Vale.

I s that Vale of Leven or Clyde and is the whole ground being redeveloped not just a new pitch?

    Cheers

Yoker will continue to play at Holm Park for the foreseeable future as no date has been agreed for any redevelopment work to start.

Glad a good night was had by all. Except I think a drink fuelled decision might have been taken that night to retain the services of the Toxic Brothers for next season per the Clydebank Post today. Only drink could have resulted in that.

Maitland and Hynes on their way tells me the  way the wind is shifting.

A step too far for me. I will be considering  my position for next season.

Not a happy end to this awful interim.

I think the current situation sums up the SJFA this season.

Yoker's website is showing a home game against Wishaw on Mon 4th Jun at 7.30 while the SJFA site shows Wishaw away to Port Glasgow on the same date and time.

Will they play us on the way to Port Glasgow or, my preferred option, on the way back?!

Ah sorry forgot to update the website, now updated.

We were told by the West Region Secretary that our match would be on the 4th, in fact it was up on the SJFA website for a short time but then updated. We now expect the last game to be on Saturday the 9th but nothing on SJFA site yet to confirm.
