Looking forward to next season, Hearts will have to replace players who are no longer eligible at U20 (those born in 2004). Of those, Pollock and Kirk have contracts for next season, while Flatman, Dall, Gordon and Thomas are all out of contract and likely to be released. McFarlane is also a 2004, but he has a contract and keepers can be a year older so remains eligible.

Given Pollock was with the 1st team and Flatman and Kirk were out on loan, only three regularly playing B Team football in the second half of this season need replaced.  Tait, who is a year younger, has also progressed to the 1st team, so is unlikely to feature.

The rest of the current squad will be a year older and more experienced at LL level so can be expected to compete towards the top end of the table once again.  However I don't think they have the same depth among those coming through who will be 17/18. They do have a good crop of 16 year olds though, so I think they will seek to balance the squad with one third at 19, one third at 17/18 and one third at 16.

The challenge for the younger ones is to get up to speed with the pace and physicality of the league, so they could be more vulnerable in the first couple of months of the season.

Flatman to be released.? I assumed his loan was to help his development about staying?

What's your thoughts on McLuckie, Sandilands and Wilson? Do you think they will play LL next season with more 1st team time like Denholm or Tait or maybe a loan out?

  2. I have enjoyed Hearts B being on the Friday night. Made quite a lot of them (even went to Central Park and Falkirk Stadium too).

My own personal opinion is that teams who can should sometimes exploit it a bit more. Play away from 3pm Saturday, entice more people when the big team are playing, probably be more appealing in the late summer or late spring months aswell

I don’t mind the young lads supporting their team and being a bit noisy if it’s organic, and they were/are genuinely supporters of the club.

It’s the ‘rent an ultra’ bunch that get on my wick, usually turn out in greatest numbers when that YouTuber boy is bouncing about.

Aye think that's the difference. Seen a lot of "young" lads supporting and singing and dancing but a lot of the time they are under 12..

Then it gets to the wee fannies who harass people that are older aren't actually Ultras.

I was sat near some albion rovers ones at Ainslie Park the other week, who had to be warned constant by stewards and wanted to harass Norrie Work

I like you as a poster, same with D Dave. But, this is not just a Tranent issue, albeit it appears this has gone a step to far! Linlithgow has already restricted their own 'ultras' as the wee knows are already causing trouble in the town centre. If clubs at this level, including East of Scotland clubs don't control their 'young teams' better, then this scene may get out of control. I know not all clubs are affected by this kind of issue, but taunting by a few 'young teams' appears to be getting out of hand.

It's definitely not just a Tranent issue but what happend to cause the statements.

"Ultras" at this level can be an excuse for wee fannies to act like wee fannies.

They don't need to reform it. It already exists. Hibs won it last season and QP are top so far this season.

Except they do as its 1 game a month or so. Its not great and the boys in the Hearts B (not sure about celtic as on different cycles) are maturing and improving as they go playing every week at a good standard.

    "Winter is over" for league.

Bo'ness Athletic look good for title... faltering Armadale must beware charges from Thornton and Edinburgh South.

Quartet of Tweedmouth, Edinburgh Utd - who had a good win at Newburgh, and Ormiston likely battling for 4th bottom.

Armadale were not at the races at all yesterday. The defending for losing 2 goals in 2 min was awful.

South surprised me a little yesterday though.

  7. Is Hearts playing a weaker team bring any less credibility than the Uni teams weakened at holiday times?

It was a younger team but it was a close game agaisnt the team 2nd in the league. Hearts had chances and were always competing.

The University usually struggles before the start of the academic year and during the Christmas break. Playing a top team during these times is always challenging but this evening was just painful. They need to sort this if they want to have any credibility in the SLFL. Other Universities have programmes to address this but there is no evidence that Edinburgh University has the ambition to progress in the professional game. (I'm referring to the University, not the football club who are a dedicated group of players and coaches with the odds stacked against them.) They have very little time to sort this out if they want to survive. Otherwise, they might be better playing at a level when there is at least as good a chance of winning as losing.

Think they might be at a new level next season very soon.

I do wonder though basing only what I have seen of them. Is the EoS Prem still a bit high?

How many who played last night might not have played had it been played in 2 weeks time?

  9. I don't think that we are ever going to be in trouble, but that's not what we all want or expect deep down. The manager merry go round of 2023 has set us back big time and its a team in transition. Yesterday we shot ourselves in both feet and both knees in the first 15 min and after that it was game over. Your No1 is missing doesn't help either. Not seen the red card replay but surely that was double jeopardy?

You can see that quality in some of the boys brought in lately unfortunately the settling that would be done through Pre-Season is being done in the League.

Meh, if they were being proactive and engaging with the reserve league there maybe have a more confirmed structure season to season,  as it is when the completely disengage with the process they can’t then bitch and moan about it not being in place

Suppose to be fair it would help. Think the powers at be also need to maybe open up and give a proposal at tail end of the season for upcoming season and let clubs arrange something

There never is at this point in the season, they await the notes of interest from clubs and until squads are more settled nobody will be expressing interest yet.

That doesn't sound the best of situations in reality.

bigger teams having to wait to see who fancies a kickabout and if not a lot are interested then its a mad scramble to find places on loan etc or they play the odd bounce game.

Rangers did the morally correct thing on removing their B team. It's disgusting that others are still playing

Rangers took there baw and went hame cause they didn't get there own way in regards to the conference league. Hardly moral 🤣

  13. Hope the laddie is alright. Looked to have taken a right sore one near the end. Was holding his arm/shoulder as he was taken off.

Worrying for Gretna is that Hearts B were in cruise control most of the game. Thought they had a couple of breaks and chances but nothing more. Keeper and defence will be disappointed especially in the 2nd half
