1. Heart of Midlothian 0 Killie 1. League Cup, Second Round.

I don't get to these shiny big grounds very often, so I enjoyed my trip to Tynecastle where their cute wee disco lights got an outing before the game.

Killie were well worth the win. Taylor putting in an incredible performance at the back, and Killie looking so much better than last time I saw them at Montrose. c352db18668b630870c3266e73617e15.jpg6b536de62d5820d2966ebd31c8997ba7.jpg718ceebd3347108444224ff1a7c4d597.jpg

2. With no Cowdenbeath game today (hooray I hear you say?[emoji848]), family took the well trodden path to Peebles from Edinburgh, but this time with the bonus of a match to watch.
Been in the park a dozen times, but never see a game. Beautiful setting with the river one side and the hills and Peebles Hydro the other way.
It was Peebles Rovers v Tweedmouth Rangers in the Alex Jack cup and the away side won 3-1, Peebles a little unlucky.
Must say I thought the referee was excellent. No linesman at this level of course, but he controlled it brilliantly. He let the players curse and swear, but was quick to bark back at them from time to time, if they were stepping over the mark, he took no crap. Not a young guy, but he seemed to understand the game and tried to let it flow.
I did a crowd count a couple of times, and counted 70 the second time.

Never regret taking in a game there! Lovely setting.

Did you happen to notice whether the Eddleston to Peebles cycle path has opened yet? I usually approach Peebles from the Neidpath end so I haven't been past Eddleston for a while. The cycle path was due to open in the Spring, but got delayed as our infrastructure projects always do.
3. Dalkeith Thistle 0 Lochee United 0 HT.
Scottish Cup Preliminary Round.

The Road to Hampden started badly for the Lochee supporters bus, which turned up a good 30 minutes into the game. It's always a gamble pointing a vehicle around the City Bypass outwith the golden quiet hour of 2am-3am (on aleternate Sunday mornings). Lochee may have found this to their cost.

Fortunately their absence left me with a clear run at the pie hut, and I made good on my intention to demolish a steak pie. And another. Absolutely outstanding pies.

Game has been finely balanced so far. Dalkeith had a couple of good chances early on which surprised me as I thought this would be quite one sided.

4. Edinburgh United 2 Ormiston Primrose 2.

Edinburgh twice coming from behind to take a point in a dramatic game, the primary drama being whether the pies would be heated by half time (they were just out the oven as the referee blew his whistle!).

Good end-to-end end stuff, both teams had a pile of chances and the goalposts were rattled a few times.

Paties Road was looking splendid in the late summer's evening sunshine. Good night out, beating sitting in the house by a comfortable margin.

5. Spar/Social club in the end.
Le Tout P'ti FC it's weird. Half the pitch is fine but there's these mad clumps of jungle around the place
It's really boggy behind each goals. Like walking on a sponge. Not sure whether the actual pitch is like that. The Flymo would have blown up.

6. Fort William 0 Golspie Sutherland 1 HT.

Enjoyable game here at a sun drenched Claggan Park. Fort had much the better of the first half, with some eye catching players, in particular the No.11 who looks like a tricky winger who is very comfortable on the ball.

Golspie made only a couple of ventures up through the verdant grasslands of the Fort William half but managed to nick a goal just before half time.

7. Aye. Gonna get pished in the Highlands anyway but hoping to catch a game. Was sunny all the way up but pushing it down now we're in Glencoe
Just parked up. Looks like game may indeed be ON but if you see any DIY shops in town would you mind bringing along a wee flymo? The grass is like the rough on the 8th at Royal Troon.

8. I have never seen a penalty box lined in such a fashion - was there any explanation ?
I think you are referring to the lines in the penalty box appearing to be dashes instead of solid? A good spot if so.

It's simply the way the photo rendered when it was uploaded to P&B. I think the image has been compressed and stretched slightly.

I can assure you that the only dashes you find in Dalkeith are those which are sold in the Bull.

9. Lanark United 4-1 East Kilbride Thistle.

More ninth tier action for us at Moor Park Lanark. Lanark had won 4 out of 4 so far and never really looked in danger here apart from a spell after the before the EK equaliser. An early penalty and three 2nd half goals made it a routine win for the Yowes.

Moor Park has no cover nor lights. Used to be two sheds apparently but they have been demolished. Still a good ground for this level.6a33df34458a84445c3d6e3fb31c95ba.jpg5728a83e05c4e46edc857960f300a8bc.jpg1d178db340c5d52fb883cccb8119e5a4.jpg
Demolished by a hurricane! Awful what happened to Moor Park after Storm Arwen.

10. Surprised but delighted to find out a new brewery (Otherworld Brewing) has opened up in Dalkeith (near me). Surprised as it has been on the go for a good few months and the first I heard of it was visiting this superb wee beer shop in Castle Douglas (nowhere near me) today!

I'll have to wait for these to chill to try them out.

This new brewery appears to be directly behind Cross Borders for those who know the area, which must mark it out as the greatest postcode in Scottish Brewing?

Now, must find a stockist somewhat closer to home, although I suspect the Eskbank Trading will have these in by now as well.

11. Threave Rovers 4 Campbeltown Pupils 0 FT.

Grotesquely lopsided game. Threave took the lead after four minutes and it has been incessant attacks on the Campbeltown goal ever since.

Hopefully Campbeltown will give their away support (me plus me alone I think!) something to cheer in the second half.

Had a nice wander around Threave Castle before the game so all is not lost. Cracking day out actually. Never in a hundred years would I have visited here were it not for the fitba!

EDIT - much improved second half from Campbeltown. Kept Threave down to a few chances only and even got up the park themselves a few times.

12. Second appearance of the week on this fine thread for Linton Hotspur. Tonight Edinburgh United U20s visited to be run ragged.

Crowd was 25 ish.

Random for me only in the sense that I went out for a walk after my tea and happened upon this two minutes along the road! Didn't know a game was on tonight.

13. Peebles Rovers 0 Easthouses Lily 1 HT.

Good game here, Easthouses scored a cracking goal. Volley from about half a mile out.

Man sized midge threatening to attack at any minute, keeping the crowd on their toes.

Some interesting looking mushrooms over by the corner flag for the foragers amongst you.

EDIT - finished 1-1. Easthouses had a player sent off at half time, Peebles then had a player sent off after about 65 mins, then equalised. Game finished at 9:30pm in more or less pitch black conditions. Absolutely smashing stuff all round, both teams were going for a winner. Thoroughly entertaining.

14. Whitletts Victoria 2 St Roch's 0. Late change of plan saw me heading here instead of Saltcoats.

What's not to like about this?

Well, there's the tuneless drummer leading the children singing their charming songs about the IRA.

There's the 6/7 year old kids in Whitletts kit waving their Union Jack back at the away supporters.

There's the downtown Bucharest Ceausescu era vibe of the Dam Park architecture.

There's the dive bombing seagulls.

There's the guy tanning his cans from a blue bag carry out at an impressive rate coming way too close to me and calling me Big Man a lot in that sinister/friendly way, whilst telling me what a fabulous atmosphere this is.

There's the people wearing balaclavas because they saw somebody on You Tube do that once.

And there's the fitba. HOOF.

Can't be arsed with any of this. Day 1 of the league season and I've picked a stinker.

Nice pie at least.
