  1. The Academy Award for outstanding Scottish footballer goes to...
  2. Equator. Tropical IPA by Ridgeside Leeds. Hitting the spot after a long day on the road, a long walk and a very boring game of football (Keith v Huntly). Soothing my sunburn by the sip.
  3. Gordon & Macphail, Elgin. Thankfully for my finances they are closed during the entirety of my stay in Elgin.
  4. Keith v Huntly in the Highland League. 6:30am start. 200 mile road trip via Stonehaven and Cullen. Would do again. Whatever happened to these 1981 likely lads?
  5. Walked past them again five minutes ago. Still marooned in Keith. 4pm kick off will need a teleporter.
  6. Formartine United team bus is marooned in Keith. Cutting it fine for kick off. 40 miles to cover in 46 minutes...
  7. Scotland U21 0 Turkey U21 2. It was impressively one sided. Oh well. Had a lovely pint of Jarl in Diggers beforehand, so all was not lost.
  8. Going to see the NTS production of Orphans in Inverness next month. Directed by Cora Bissett, cast features Robert Florence. Adaptation of the 1998 Peter Mullan film, which was an absolute classic. The darkest of dark comedy. "She ain't heavy, she's my mother." Can't wait. Was such a fan of the film that I am going up to Inverness especially for this, as all of the dates closer to home (touring Greenock, Glasgow and Edinburgh) were horribly clashed for other things in my diary. https://www.nationaltheatrescotland.com/events/orphans
  9. Probably a half truth in there. The stand at Benburb was taken down recently, and I'd read on here somewhere that it was heading to Kilwinning. Benburb were building a wee shed in its place, perhaps? I don't know if that stand you saw at Kilwinning was one and the same. I suspect not, the Benburb stand may be coming in as an extension? Basically what I'm saying is: don't trust a word that comes out of my mouth on this matter, I'm no more informed than you! (And how often do people admit that on here when they're flanneling!)
  10. Motherwell v Hibs. Decent first half, but always an uphill battle for Motherwell playing with ten men for 89 minutes.
  11. Featuring the Benburb grandstand following its big money move.
  12. Coincidence indeed! So much so that you just notified me that Scott Brown had retired, I really pay so little attention to the top leagues these days. Would definitely recommend you skip the Lowland League and visit some of the delights further down the pyramid. Millburn Park is a gem from a bygone era, no better place to start. I am mostly continuing my boycott of the Lowland League. This season I've only been to games at Edinburgh Uni, Dalbeattie and Bonnyrigg, three of the "good guys" who voted against the Colts. Will get to the other two (Civil Service and Bo'ness) eventually and that will be as far as I'm prepared to go this season. Will be watching the vote for next season with interest.
  13. Vale of Leven 1 Spartans 1 HT. Wee trip to Balmaha before the game. Tried to persuade Tom Weir to come along to the game with me, but he wasn't for coming. Decent game so far, Vale sticking at it.
  14. First visit today to Millburn Park, Alexandria. Home of Vale of Leven FC. 10th most Scottish Cup Final appearances (seven). Three wins, four defeats. Last final was 1890, but never say never... Sixth most wins, i.e. same number of cup wins as Hibs, Killie, St Mirren and Clyde. Founder member of the SFL in 1890. Delighted to make it here finally.
  15. What a result for Dalkeith - wow! Came from 3-1 down to beat Linlithgow 4-3.
  16. You'll have no bother getting parked around Oran Mor. Parking bays on Great Western Road should be free during the evening, or turning onto Queen Margaret Drive to park near the Botanics is free all day anyway. If you aim roughly for the bridge over the Kelvin on QMD you'll be fine. Two minutes walk to the venue.
  17. Excellent venue. Compact enough to give you a decent view wherever you go. Set up depends on band, but has usually been standing when I've been there. If seating is important to you, upstairs on the balcony there are both standing and seated areas, and a wee bar that's much quicker to get served from.
  18. Bonnyrigg Rose 2 Cumbernauld Colts 0 HT. Win for Bonnyrigg takes them into the Highland/Lowland play off. They are playing pretty well so far, imagine they will see this game out easily enough. The gravy in the steak pie I bought for my dinner was heated to the temperature of a space shuttle re-entering the Earth's atmosphere.
  19. There really is an eclectic array of random things at the Accies.
  20. Drumchapel United AFC v Bullwood AFC. The Sunday West District Cup Final 2019/20. 2-1 to Drumchapel at HT, coming back from losing their goalie to a bad injury and then going a goal down early in match. Bullwood looked quite comfortable for a long spell. Missed a goal - and this is a first - because I was distracted by a collection of dinosaurs over by the corner flag. First visit to the Accies since 1992, and my first visit to this new ground. Not enormously taken by the place.
  21. Also got my Bulb estimate for the next year. Electricity only household, since there is no gas supply to my village. Annual projected cost up 44%. Direct debit payment going up by 53%, despite me starting with £100 CR balance. (They "recommended" I put it up by 70%, but I chose to go with their "minimum".) It's manageable, but I could do without it.
  22. Just found this thread. That photo brings back some old childhood memories. My first home was on Ellismuir Road, about 100m from the ground. We would often sneak in to watch Baillieston games. Long since emigrated to the Far East (i.e. Midlothian). We had left before Baillieston ceased. Would welcome any phoenix club into the WOSL and would no doubt take some interest in their results. Did a wee Google search and found this tweet with a nice image of a Kelty visit:
  23. Dalkeith Thistle 1 Arniston Rangers 1. Horrible gusting wind obliterated any attempts to play football. It was exhausting just watching it.
