  1. NZ is a very sparsely populated country with very little international movements.
No comparison with UK and all the international movements through London.

I guess you’ve never been to Auckland? NZ was on the same trajectory as Italy when we went into full lockdown, shut and quarantined the borders and started to ramp up the testing. Much better than the shambles of a response from the UK and US. Another 2 or 3 weeks and we should hopefully be back to some sort of normality. Only 6 new cases today.

  2. Thats NZ that have still to send a full international team to play any of the Pacific Islanders at home as there is no money in it for them?

The All Blacks played in Samoa in 2015 with a full team. I think I read that Samoa actually lost money on that game so I’m not sure games in the islands are that attractive for either side.

A super rugby team would help but even the top super rugby teams can’t compete with the money on offer in Europe. Maybe if the criteria to qualify for another nation was a bit tighter it might stop so many switching to the big nations?

  3. I know that much, what’s the view of him?

    Good, bad , indifferent?

He’s just had a bit of a shocker. Gave the French boy a yellow without reviewing it. It was barely high and definitely not a yellow. Now the ABs have scored 2 tried against the 14 men
  4. Season Ticket and walk-up prices slashed for next season - regardless of what division we're in.
    http://www.dumbartonfootballclub.com/news/?mode=view&id=3586
£16 adults £10 Concessions £8 U12s and a £20 Parent + Child on the walk ups, all season tickets have 20 quid taken off.
That's absolutely tremendous news. Nothing put people I know off more than the prospect of £20 entry - it might only be £4, but it sounds an awful lot lower. Hopefully the club are rewarded by a wee boost in ST uptake and walk-ups.

While it’s great news that prices have been reduced I think this may actually see a reduction in season tickets sales as if you miss more than two homes games you would have been better off just paying at the gate (unless I’ve calculated it wrong). Hopefully the lower walk up prices lure a few new supporters in or encourages others to return.
  5. Just to offer a slightly different perspective on drumgate. After the game, a friend of mine was having a wee celebration for her son’s 18th birthday in the bar. She had arranged for Steve Aitken and a couple of players to present him with a birthday cake and a signed top. That all went very well but Frank Meade also appeared and gave the lad a bottle of champagne from the club. I asked him about the drum and he said he had received “several” complaints about (the drum) last week from season ticket holders and he felt that he should act. If that is the case, then is he not left with the judgement of Solomon?

If they are willing to confiscate a drum due to several complaints surely everyone who wants the drum to stay should contact the club and say how they enjoyed the atmosphere it created? If the people who like the drum outnumber those who complained then old Frank will have no choice
  6. I propose we use a play for the sons select team for this colts game. You could sign them all on amateur contracts so it wouldn't cost the club anything and would highlight what a complete farce this competition is. It would also mean we get no more 1st team players injured. Still charge 40 quid a head right enough.

  7. Need to get the barricades sorted to keep the hoardes at bay.

    #NFerguson

He's not even the best footballer in the Ferguson family [emoji6]

To be fair I did tell him he was MOM from the highlights. Hopefully there's another play for the sons in the future and I can find someone to sponsor my flight home from NZ.
  8. Any other Aucklander's heading to the Auckland Masters this weekend?

Yip heading along tomorrow night. Hopefully Whitlock takes out Taylor but I can't see it happening the way Taylor is playing. Should be a cracking night anyway

  9. He's in the papers today saying he feels a bit sore but nothing too major.

He's more worried about the fact his girlfriend isn't talking to him

Yeah saw that. Hopefully the security guy (who is in the Canterbury ITM cup team) doesn't get punished for it. You run onto the field naked, you have to expect some rough treatment!

  10. Sean Maitland looks like a good player with 115 pts in 54 games with the Crusaders or 0.4 trys per game in Super Rugby and and the same for Canterbury in the ITM Cup.

Don't think droping the number of Pro teams would help us as it would dilute the number of players under SRU control causing a lot of Club v Country rows. A 3rd side will help us but I am not sure we have the fan base up here to suport it but mibby the best way forword would be bringing London Scottish(play in the English 2nd tier) under SRU controll.

Maitland should do well at Glasgow. He's fast and elusive but sometimes goes missing in games. Seems to get injured pretty easily as well but hopefully he does well.

  11. Ran the local half marathon this morning. Did it in a time of 1:33.07. Slightly disappointed at not getting under the 1:30 mark but its my best time for a half marathon so can't be too unhappy. Felt pretty good for most of it but ran out of energy towards the end. What does everyone recommend eating before a race? Think having something more substantial than toast would've helped me today.

  12. I recently had to give up playing football so have taken up running to keep myself fit. I'm running a half marathon next weekend in Christchurch with the plan of doing my first ever marathon in February. The last (and only) time i ran a half marathon was the Glasgow one several years ago in a time of 1:35. Didnt train properly for it and started off way too quickly and by the end i was barely above walking pace. Went a 19km run last night and did it in 1:23, felt pretty comfortable so i'm hopeful for a sub 1:30 time next weekend.

Great to read about everyone else's efforts on here, keep up the good work!

  13. Great defensive display from Scotland tonight, first victory in Oz since 1982! Aussies had 93% territory in the 2nd half but who cares. Also Cusiter should've been on from the start.
