6pm Tuesday (out of the blue): DG rumoured to be leaving.

    Wednesday morning: DG leaves.

    Wednesday lunchtime: new centre-half signs.

Have to be impressed with the club's forward planning.

Where the feck is the mystery striker???

So things can move quickly in some cases. Let's hope the mystery striker is faster than this close deal.

Without wanting to give Random Guy any klout I do find it a bit strange that Robbo said last night he’s looking to bring another striker in.

We currently have eight players in the squad capable of playing up front.

Yet we had one injury yesterday which meant we played a 17 year old kid at LWB first half and a Centre Half there in the second half.

I don’t particularly mind Tanser but he’s frequently injured (and not particularly good at defending tbh).

Recruiting a LWB should be well above signing another striker in the priority list!

Starting LWB l, back up RWB for when Strain is goosed. A starting GK are the priorities for me

Yeah I think Carson is the best of the lot - anyone we sign is likely to be a bit of a drop off.

If there has been a falling out then it must be pretty serious and that’s made us go for Hemming.

I feel we used to have some bloody terrible keepers in my time. I loved Ludo as he was a cult hero, he was a good stopper, but not a good keeper as an example.

I think after the likes of Craig Samson we have been consistently getting better with keepers. I was worried for the likes of Hladky going to then get Alnwick in was good too. I worried with Carson coming in, but I prefer him to the lot. He is the best of both shot stopper and keeper.

He's a good keeper, a very good keeper.

As good as Hladky and Alnwick? I wouldn't say so. They are top 2 in last 30 years at the club for me and we've been lucky to have more good keepers than bad ones down the years.

Yeah he’s really not up to the level we need. Carson is excellent and won us many points last season - if he goes he’ll be a massive loss.

I have to say Carson is much better than Alnwick in my eyes. Both good stoppers, but Carson can take a goal kick and keep it in, Alnwick couldn't.

For me I don't see this. I see it as he has a year left I think we will let Peter go out on loan to get more game time and for us to see if he has it. The reason for this he has played f**k all due to no reserve league, so essentially just trains.

Also for a fair bit of his career Carson has gone to Robo's clubs. They seem to understand eachother and Robo allows him to go spend time with his family, would other managers?!

I can see us getting in maybe a more established number 2. I can see us then looking at maybe a loan to buy deal as this person would be better than Peter and could take over from Carson with Carson eventually going down to be closer to his family after this extension?!

New players will arrive in due course Ric. If the manager and Martin Foyle have demonstrated one thing over and above anything else it is that they are shrewd operators in the market.

Wait and see how the whole window unfolds.

I have all the faith in Robo and Foyle. I also believe this is a long game as we have most of the squad signed up for next season, so we will have 2 lists, one with squad fillers as he was known to complain last season with the numbers we had with injuries and suspensions, and another list of potential players who are starters to go for If the likes of Carson, O'Hara, strain and Baccus were to go... and potential starting LWB (ideally a left sided strain)

I am also impatient and want to know everything now and want it sorted yesterday. I check the forum hourly.

Disappointed to lose Baccus for such a low fee , but if the money is spent on  signing Bedeau and the winger from Glentoran and on keeping Main , I would be quite happy .

I think I would be too. It mean we would be all set with left footed defenders (with Taylor able to apparently cover left back too), which are like gold dust (I keep telling my son to focus on the weak foot as the left is so tough to get people).

If it meant a Uturn for main like Dunne I'd be happy as I think next season he could push of for us even more.

The winger would also allow us to have goal scorer winger and a plan B for 3 up front.

I for one am glad we'll be getting around £400 - 500K plus add ons. A great bit of business.

The 275k banding about upsets me as I personally feel Baccus is worth more. If it was closer to 400k or 500k with add-on's with 1 year left I'd be more happy. As I say of Baccus, Strain and O'Hara he is the one I feel we could find someone else to take his place easier.

  7. I don't want to panic, but also I want some movement. I know we have a decent core signed up, but I know there were complaints on the size of squad last season too. I get with the ones who have left we will be looking for quality to take their place, but would we not have squad players signed up early doors to help him with the issues we had at the end with numbers?! I'm being picky now I just want some excitement

Blackandwhitearmy saying £275k, dunno if that's accurate but even with future fee clauses and a year left on the contract, it seems very low.

    1 hour ago, Norrie82 said:

275 is a joke and if true it’s horrendous business. Add ons are always unlikely - 275 k for a full international. Unbelievable if true simply a shit deal - we must be desperate

275K is very poor if true. Even allowing for an add on clause that’s a poor fee for the player.

£275k isn’t a great fee at all but he’s only worth what teams are willing to pay for him.

    4 minutes ago, Div said:

Very kind but I haven't run the B&W Army twitter account for a couple of years now. That said, the £275K being bandied about won't be too far off the mark IMO.

We're not in a strong position here and the club will not want to run the risk of him walking away for nothing next Summer.

275k is very low in my eyes for someone with a year left and played in the world cup. It upsets me to think if it was say Motherwell or the other teams that finished top 6 this season they would command more than that reported amount.

I would be upset to see him go as been good for us, but I'd be more upset of O'Hara or Strain were to go for that kind of money.

It could also be that this is a fee that was agreed when he signed for us as some sort of release clause?!

I would hope for some major add-on's in this whole situation.

If we announce Baccus going officially I hope we quickly announce others after it to try get fans not to melt down.

Liam Donnelly from Killie linked to us and Dundee.

Hopefully Dundee win that race, never been a fan of him.

We need other positions before looking at the midfield surely? Also Robo didn't seem linked to him when he was leaving Motherwell, why now? Is it the fact he has been a utility man before playing at CM/CDM/RB/CB? Maybe then takes the Flynn role on the bench?

    26 minutes ago, Div said:

The only way I'd take Donnelly would be if it was in a straight swap deal with Brophy going the other way.

I want rid of Brophy as it hasn't worked out for the length of contract given, number of goals in a saints shirt and doe the money he is supposed to be on.

My issue with this swap would be moving one injury prone player for another.

I do love the style of play now and identity we have as a team that if he fits into this and is better than what we have I will trust the management team.

The whole squad will be there.

Totally. With fitness and togetherness being focus of Robo and co I would imagine no one gets to miss this. Get new and existing players together and fit as quickly as possible.

He would not want another Watt. He had been at a professional football team and came to us really unfit to their standards. I would imagine they want us to be as fit as we can be for the start of the season.

  11. So looking at the gossip and links so far we have the following away or potentially away and linked players to potentially replace them

    LCB Dunne

    CB Jacob Bedeau

    LB/LWB Small

    LB/LWB Ali Koiki

    LB/LWB Adam Montgomery

    CB Shaughnessy/ RB/LB Tait

    RB/CB Oludare Olufunwa

    CDM/CM Erharhon

    CDM/CM Faud Sule

    ST/LW Watt

    ST/LW Kwame Peprah

    ST Main

    ST Robert Street

    ST Stav Nahmani

    RW Henderson

    ST/RW Conor McMenamin

Isn’t that the same club Strain joined us from? Would have to imagine we have link over there, either that or someone is just taking a look where we signed from last season and making it up.

If all players based in Israel were of similar calibre to Strain I’d fill the squad with them.

I think it is the same club

I wouldn't be surprised if we were looking at Kennedy though. Can cover a few positions, including right wing back, and would offer us a bit of flexibility. It probably depends on who else is in for him and how his injuries have been.

What positions can he cover? Thought he was like a right mid and with the 352 or 532 would he be able to do the defensive side that's needed? Can he play as a winger ins a 433? No dig, I just don't know much about the guy.

Injury side can we deal with it? Seemed to work well with Dunne (not Brophy though as I think you need Jesus to heal that man).

Every team in the league needs someone like that but unfortunately clubs like St Mirren can’t afford anyone who guarantees 15 goals a season.

I'm with you. I find the continuous chat on a 15+ goals a season exhausting. Where do fans think this money would come from? Anyone consistently like this is out of our price range. We have to uncover players, take a punt and see if it works.

Charles-Cook did not much until he was at Ross Co. Van Veen scored this number in the Dutch lower leagues, but not so much in England until now at Motherwell. Teams like us need to take a punt.

We took a punt on Brophy from previous seasons and I don't think I was ever at a game he scored for us. Unfortunately it's the market we are in, but I have faith as Robo and Fouled have some raw talent there in Taylor, CBM etc.

  15. 38 minutes ago, djchapsticks said:

Nah, he said offers are there irrespective of existing contract offers being accepted.

This does make me think that the offers are for one centre half and one full back though.

I didn't think it included anything with Bowie or Bedeau as both in contract with their teams. 1 it's a loan and other it's about what willing to pay.

I'd hope with the likes of Small, Dunne and potentially Shaughnessy leaving it be left sided players.

Fraser and Flynn fill in for Strain. And right footed. With Small and Dunne off you would hope the focus is on left side, but it's hard to cover.

  16. Robo had said recently he had offers out to 2 defenders and 2 strikers. Does this matter if Dunne or Main sign on again?!

Does this include the 2 rumours in Jacob Bedeau (left sided centre back) and Kieran Bowie (Scottish striker from Fulham)?

If it doesn't include them you would hope with Small being loaned to end of year and no chat on Tait whose contact is due to end this year that the 2 defenders can play wing backs and potential centre back cover.

Centre half, just been released by Portsmouth, still only 29 and might fancy coming back up the road.

Depends what the plans are. Gallagher isn't the most mobile. Some people say Fraser isn't the best defender, but is mobile. We need mobile defenders with Gallagher. Gallagher 100 percent the better defender, but isn't the quickest.
