I love posts like this. They base themselves on the hope that no one else will be sad enough to waste their precious time checking your figures. I am most definitely in that category. 🤣

Out of curiosity (and the aforementioned pure bone idleness), could you give me the details of the 2-3-0 season? I’m very impressed by that as I too thought we were permashite on plastic.

ETA I gave you a greenie for your efforts 👍

Funnily enough as I was closing my tabs I noticed I'd fucked the last two seasons overall form (used your home one instead - you were actually better away in those seasons than what I'd had), but it didn't change the plastic record.

    For the 2-3-0 in 2019/20:

    Kilmarnock 1-1 St Mirren
    Kilmarnock 3-3 St Mirren
    Livingston 0-1 St Mirren
    Hamilton 1-1 St Mirren
    Hamilton 0-1 St Mirren
    --
    St Mirren 0-1 Kilmarnock
    St Mirren 2-0 Kilmarnock
    St Mirren 1-0 Livingston
    St Mirren 1-1 Livingston
    St Mirren 1-1 Hamilton
    St Mirren 1-2 Hamilton

There were also these cup games in that season that weren't included in my above post:

    Hamilton 0-3 St Mirren
    Kilmarnock 3-3 St Mirren
    Livingston 1-0 St Mirren

If I had to guess though, it's probably because historically we (St. Mirren, not Rangers or Celtic) typically perform absolutely shite on artificial surfaces and have done so for years. We regularly dread going to Hamilton, Livi, Killie etc. Nothing more sinister than that.

With absolutely nothing better or more exciting to do I thought I'd have a look at your away form (W-D-L) the last few seasons, mainly because my first instinct was along the lines of 'aren't St Mirren just a bit shite away from home' and didn't want to just be talking shite.

2023/24: 5-4-10 (0-2-2 on plastic, 1-0-2 at home to those teams)
2022/23: 3-5-11 (0-2-0 on plastic, 2-1-1 at home to those teams)
    2021/22: 6-6-7 (1-1-0 on plastic, 0-2-0 at home)
    2020/21: 7-4-8 (2-3-0 on plastic, 2-2-1 at home)

An average of 1.38 points a game works out roughly the same as the home games (1.43) and is actually better than your overall away form over those seasons (1.07), doesn't seem like St Mirren play particularly poorly on plastic?

With this new information though I'd actually like to change my mind and vote to ban these artificial surfaces, on the grounds that they give St Mirren a clear unfair advantage. Now to find something else to procrastinate from "work"

*If any of those numbers are wrong I hold the internet responsible and will not back down

  3. Without actually knowing how good/shite some of these guys are, you could have our current team looking like:

    Prior

    Brandon  -  Donnellan  -  Finlayson  -  Montano

    Kelly  -  McAlear  -  Pittman

    Smith  -  Yengi  -  Sole

Bench: George, Nottingham, Clarke, Lawal, Carson, Muirhead, Korboa

That's with trying to ignore the players who are "available for transfer" as I expect they'll be gone (and George on the bench as I assume he'll also be away), but just chucked Carson in for an extra CM sub. Based on that you're probably looking for better CB cover than Nottingham, and another CM if we're playing with 3, and that might be us.

Out of interest what’s likely to happen to Steven Bradley? Has he actually been released or are you holding out for a fee? Would’ve been quite happy to take him back and actually use him properly this time round.

He was listed as "available for transfer" which would suggest to me that we want a fee*; by the sounds of things he tried to force through a move to Falkirk last summer so it's not as if he'll drag his heels about leaving and would probably go to the first Championship club who agree to whatever it is we're after. Most likely a few pennies but with a chunky sell on percentage.

The Livi instagram account posted that an agreement had been reached for his contract to be terminated. It wasn't announced anywhere else and has since been deleted so would assume it was a mistake, or he's in talks with someone and our media guy(s) have been told to prepare a message to confirm it and they've misunderstood and jumped the gun. No idea though, purely speculation.

*I'd expect its guys Martindale actively wants gone but couldn't agree a pay off for, so we're hoping another club will come in and take them for free/a small sell on

  5. https://livingstonfc.co.uk/club-update-david-martindale/

To the surprise of no one, Martindale being kept by the current board. Interesting that John McIlvogue's name is on the bottom of that, just ignoring the courts stopping the takeover? Wonder how much of this is a bit of a safety net if they lose their ownership battle, bit of pressure for the other lot to keep Martindale on.

On the football side of things, I think he'd be a fine manager in the Championship. Past 18 months have obviously been rough as f**k but he's shown previously he can do a good job, it's just whether or not he can get us back to that and a reset and not being the huge (shoodge) underdogs might be key to that. However, if we continue with the same horrendous style and a couple bad results will probably see the stands more toxic than they've been this season. Probably a case of seeing where we are by November and replacing him if it's not going well*.

*Under normal circumstances obviously, if it's "the two Johns" then we'll be stuck with him.

  6. Agreement reached for Calan Ledingham's contract to be terminated. Doesn't sound like it's because another club has come in for him, and if that was the case you'd like to think we'd at least have taken a sell on if not a small fee.

Bit weird considering he was included in the list of young players promoted to the first team 3 days ago.

At a first glance you'd think that's a big hike but an inflation calculator shows that apparently £240 in 2016 is £327.76 in 2024 money. An effective price rise of £12.24, which when you consider that works out at a £1.53 increase per season.

Also worth considering we had just come up from League 1 so weren't exactly aiming high, whereas this season it sounds like we will be actively pushing to go straight back up.

Genuinely don’t think the season ticket prices are bad. They’re in line with the prices of other clubs in the Championship.

Yep, we all want cheaper season tickets but the way some folk are going about it you'd think they've been upped to £500.

Will probably wait until after the court case before getting mine, partly since I'm 99% sure there's going to be some issue with Fanbase.

Not sure I entirely agree with you on this point.

Hamilton were once  masters at the youth set up and selling them on for £1m plus to England top tiers. Granted that has changed in recent times as Hamilton went through their own  financial and ownership challenges

Out of interest what players did Hamilton sell for that kind of money while in the Championship?

Ryan One is the only one I could think but I thought that was only ever reported as a "six figure fee".

Unless I've been living under a rock has the plastic pitch debacle only really been a 'thing' after Kilmarnock beat both halves of the erse cheeks earlier in the season and they both kicked up a fuss? Prior to our plastic pitch going down I can't say I'd ever went into an away game up in arms about the opposition having a plastic pitch 🤷‍♂️ Anyway if we go up there are plans in place to revert back to grass if that's what has to happen. Knowing our luck we'll go up, revert to grass, get relegated and be financially fucked for years.

Been going for Livi since Celtic couldn't beat us at home, took them about 4 and a half seasons anyway. Apoplectic when they realised they couldn't just rock up and win.

Most likely also happened before depending on how long Accies had theirs. Regardless probably started because the bigots had to find something else to pretend to be upset about, and the dinosaurs fancied joining in.
