  1. Second the recommendations for Córdoba, definitely worth a day trip.

If you're in to history the Roman Ruins of Italica is tremendous. 170 public bus from Seville bus station to Santiponce, takes about half an hour, and is free to enter.

Plaza de Espana in Maria Luisa Park is a good way to spend a few hours. They had alfresco Flamenco shows on most days which my wife assures me were as good as the ones you pay €30+ euros for...

Both football stadiums also worth visiting, if there's a match on all the better. Betis were away when we were last there so took in Sevilla v. Valencia, brilliant experience under the floodlights.

Pretty much everywhere is good to eat, but I'd avoid most of the places in the direct vicinity of the Cathedral, for obvious reasons.

Would recommend PETRA at Alfalfa for grilled veal or Restaurante De La O across the river in Triana (loads of decent bars around there too).

Seville is a class city - enjoy!

I really wasn't expecting too much from Peter Hook & The Light last night at the o2, but it was absolutely wonderful. Ran through some New Order songs then Unknown Pleasures and Closer, followed by JD crowd pleasers. He's got a great band too.

Played for around 2.5 hours. Top stuff.

Aye, I had similar reservations about this but thought it was excellent.

Only downside was the awful drinks selection in the venue

Young Fathers at the O2 Academy in Glasgow on Friday.

Looking forward to seeing the support Callum Easter who is on Lost Map records label.

Callum Easter is really good, proper showman with top tunes to boot - enjoy!

This is all over my social media currently, any one seeing them this tour?

Aye, saw them at Mono on Saturday. Really good.

Also Paul Heaton Friday night and The Cure Sunday.

    Monday morning was a struggle

  5. Too Many Zooz - Brasshouse Vol 7. No. 69

The Beautiful South - The Rising of Grafton Street

Booker T & the MGs - Soul Limbo

The Chemical Brothers - Work Energy Principle

Penguin Cafe Orchestra - Perpetuum Mobile

  6. Flaming Lips on Monday night were sensational, as usual.

Got Camera Obscura Saturday, then BJM in July, Neutral Milk Hotel in Aug and JAMC in November - been a crackin' year for gigs so far!

  7. ...he was a great servant for us, would've been nice to give him a wee send-off - he played, it appears, 237 games for us and can only have missed one or two games in the last four seasons so it's always sad to lose a player as long-serving as that. Always tried his best, played for the jersey and scored some goals that've had us going wild - notably his screamer of a volley to end Dundee's unbeaten run and keep us in the title race, and THAT header at East End which remains my most celebrated Rovers goal.

Arguably the two highlights of a memorable season.

Sad to see Walker go; solid servant, had some wonderful moments in a rovers shirt (and some fairly ropey ones) but a good player on his day and a decent guy all round.

  8. Here's one for you regular gig goers. Any of you wear earplugs to gigs? I started having tinnitus and ear pain for days after gigs and I am terrified of damaging my hearing. I went to see Opeth on Tuesday and wore earplugs for the first time. I was amazed at how good it sounded. And of course, my ears weren't ringing after it.

Think I'm going to start wearing them from now on.

They were handed out on the way in to a My Bloody Valentine gig at the barrowlands a couple of years ago.

    Was fuckin loud, mind.

  9. Looks like it'll be The Stone Roses at Heaton Park unless something else comes up in the meantime.

I'm going to Tom Petty in London the week before this gig. All in its costing a cunting fortune, but should be worth every penny.

  10. If there's a better sitcom than Modern Family currently airing, I haven't seen it.

    Agreed.

I think this show's main strength is its great characters. All of them, kids included, are worthy of commendation.

  11. Don't mean to take this away from the Ronnie chat - great article by the way, thanks Philpy - but what is with the embarrasing mollycoddling pish the club have continually been coming out with over the last few months? Latest installment is now on the website. Along with the fire exits and "stadium guide" being posted online, ways to behave posted online before the game, that fucking patronising announcement ten minutes before kick-off, a gazillion stewards dotted every five feet around the ground..

.. what on earth is it all about?

New Health & Safety officer going a bit OTT with the 'rules'. Even the stewards think its a heap of pish.

  12. Philip K. Dick is indeed the absolute master, probably my favourite author of all time. Start either with Do Androids dream of electric sheep (became Blade Runner), or the man in the high castle which is generally felt to be the defining counter factual history story in science fiction. Either way, make sure you read A scanner darkly, an incredibly affecting, dark story.

Started reading this last week for the umpteenth time, a masterpiece of alternative history literature.
