  1. Kicking the Black Mamba: Life, Alcohol & Death. Robert Anthony Welch

This is about the death of a young man who drowned in a river in Northern Ireland after a drinking binge. The book is written by his father who's a University professor at Coleraine and it's an incredibly lyrical depiction of the pain and torture caused by a father's son who is inexorably and relentlessly pursuing death. Not only are the impulsive urges at fault but his complete self destructiveness. The scene in which his father tries to coax him out of a pub full of a local gang is incredibly tense.

It's definitely harrowing and often depressing but it's so well written that it will probably be regarded as a cautionary reference work for addicts of any kind. There is hope in amongst the carnage and misery and overall, well worth reading

Good review DHB . Will read. ;)

  2. What's making you depressed?

That's pretty bad what you're going through. You should go see the doctor about you antidepressants. Do your family or friends know you've tried to drown your self? Maybe if you tried exercise that might help. I'm sure I read that when you do exercise the body sends out chemicals that make you feel good. So you would get that plus the weight would fall off and that's another positive. If you need to talk to someone message me if you like. 2 nights ago I was all up for killing myself or my mum but today I feel 100x better. I kind of burnt my anger out and things are looking up on the job front I have a interview next week plus on for college and I might not be homeless for long. 1 day can change alot.

Good suggestion Cracow. He could learn to swim, lose weight, and stop himself drowning. win, win, win. :thumsup2

Btw, dont tell your mum what a lucky escape she had, it might make her a bit edgy !

  3. The end of a relationship can seem like the end of the world, cracojambo, but it's really not - it's something that can be overcome - get yourself in shape, and get back in the game - try not to take relationships too seriously, because they can come and go - there are plenty of nice lassies oot there who are on the hunt for a nice bloke - and you seem like a nice bloke - get yourself fired in when you're ready.

Have you got a girlfriend , Para ?

  4. The human brain is wonderful at making sense of any decision, regardless of how absurd they may seem at first. In my opinion, it really does take some "misfiring" in the brain to really go through with it all considering the body is geared to survive even in the extremest of conditions.

Anyway, is anyone currently on/or has been on Fluoxetine? I was offered it in the past but refused. However, I'm currently in a really dark moment and desperately in need of something what with finals coming up as well.

im sure my grampa used to use that when he was soldering.

  5. But he can just now and decided to post it. Why?

I'm not referring to Richey. I'm referring to what you meant when you said "Why would you transfer all of that on a stranger by involving them in your suicide?".

How do you know he is rational just now anyway? He could be having a bout of Psychosis or Mania?

    It's all about perspective.

Could he be having them both SD ?

  6. Thanks good to know. I have not decided if I will go for the full blown road bike or the hybrid. I have also been holding out hoping he would do a hybrid with a carbon frame (but it is so light already I am not sure it will make a huge difference if he does). Thanks for the offer I'll bear it in mind.

Are you buying a tandem for you and SS 18, or will you just be giving him a 'backie ' ?
