  1. For those who haven't actually read Lord Nimmo Smith's remit (known legally as "terms of reference"):

The Tax Tribunal has held (subject to appeal) that Oldco was acting within the law in setting up and operating the EBT scheme. The SPL presented no argument to challenge the decision of the majority of the Tax Tribunal and Mr McKenzie stated expressly that for all purposes of this Commission’s Inquiry and Determination the SPL accepted that decision as it stood, without regard to any possible appeal by HMRC. Accordingly we proceed on the basis that the EBT arrangements were lawful. What we are concerned with is the fact that the side-letters issued to theSpecified Players, in the course of the operation of the EBT scheme, were not disclosed to the SPL and the SFA as required by their respective Rules.

So, LNS never actually considered the situation where EBT's were not legal. Nor did he consider the potential financial sporting advantage enabled by EBT's.

There can be no doubt that a fresh commission is required. And "common sense" (Ias delivered by Lord Drummond Young) suggests that a further penalty is due.

  2. I particularly liked how he went to a pub to watch a game then missed a good chunk of the game to jump in a taxi because he was invited to watch the game in someone's bedroom instead and then at full time went back to the pub

Not to mention that the bedroom was so small there wasn't even a chair in it so the the three of them (and A.N. Other) had to share a bed.

I genuinely don't know how anyone could feel sorry for him or think the ban is harsh.

  3. Noticed this elsewhere, a huge part of the problem, shite deals trumpeted as masterstrokes.

There was a commercial uptick at Ibrox this week, with the announcement of shirt sponsorship by online casino operators 32Red worth, as the Telegraph revealed, £600,000 per annum over two years with an option on a third year.

The word reaching me from within Ibrox is that the first year’s tranche is not quite sufficient to cover the chief executive’s annual salary plus 100 per cent performance bonus which is to be paid in August in cash, shares or both. I do not know if Graham Wallace is worth that or not - he will be judged on the contents of his review - but no doubt there will be a long queue of voluble supporters willing to venture an opinion

This just reinforces the viewpoint that Rangers are not meant to survive.

I've been away for too long, are you now accepting that Phil is a reliable source?
