  1. I bought a Guinness Nitrosurge yesterday, so had a couple of cans last night. I got a bit of grief from the wife for spending £25 on what could possibly be a gimmick.

Turns out, this probably the best Guinness you can get outside a pub. Proper smooth and consistent head, doesn't go flat and lasts until the end of the pint.

    Recommend.

Caledonia Gladiators Women 90-58 Newcastle Eagles Women

Easter Sunday basketball in East Kilbride as the hometown Gladiators dominate and go top of the WBBL. What a player Laken James is. Record crowd of over 900 for the women's team.

Really impressed with the purpose built facility at Playsport, excellent views from everywhere, great facilities and excellent food and drink options. Their self service beer machine was excellent. Looking forward to seeing how they develop the facility.

Posting in here given the lack of a general basketball thread.

I was looking for a general BBL thread or something. I used to have a season ticket at the Glasgow Rocks when it was at the Emirates, but gave it up 9 years ago when kids came. Took the oldest daughter to the game last night against the Cheshire Phoenix, my first time to go see them for 4 or 5 years, and first time since the franchise move and name change.

Incredible facilities to be honest, a real step-up in game day atmosphere and experience.

Caledonia Gladiators is a shite name, think they should have just kept the "Rocks" part and called them the Caledonia Rocks to maintain continuity with a very decent brand, like the logo is far superior to the new one, but I understand the need for re-boot following the move.

I don't think it's helpful to say "Tory Free". It definitely plays well to the base and will perhaps gain some voters from Labour for certain seats, but I can entirely understand Wishart's reluctance to use it. The electorate he serves don't seem to be particularly partisan and he won the seat by only 21 votes in 2017. He took 50% of the vote in 2019 but he can't rest on those laurels given the history of voting in his particular seat. Humza put him in a fairly awkward position by saying what he did.

It seems an ill-advised choice of words to use and I'd prefer it if a First Minister would be less divisive in his rhetoric. The conservative party account for about a quarter of the votes in Scotland and he's the First Minister of those people too. I understand what he meant, but this game is about optics and, in the case of the SNP, not giving your opponents or the media an absolute tap-in.

I think that's a really key thing for the independence movement if it wants to succeed going forward. It's to acknowledge that people will vote Conservative, and up until the 80s was basically a Tory voting country. And that's not counting the small "c" conservatives who are happy and content with the status quo, have their representation at WM and the stability of being part of something bigger. If recent years are anything to go by, I think there will be a a change to voting intentions away from the SNP and towards maybe the Liberals and Tories.

I am not a polling expert, just what I think when talking to people in my office.

Imagine wanting to be governed by and being an afterthought of England.  I've always wondered why more Unionists don't move down to England, given they appear to love their right-wing policies.

I get all of that but there appears to be no legal route to independence other than via approval from Westminster. It's clear to me that irrespective of the views of the Scottish electorate, that approval will never be given again.

The views of the Scottish electorate was to remain part of the United Kingdom. The SNP support is going to collapse at the next election, and since 2014, the SNP have shat it at pushing for another referendum, so why would any PM grant another referendum anytime soon.

Mine has tripled. Was Bronze, the lowest category, now category 3 out of 7. Our seats were in the south-east corner upper, there's no map of the new categories. FK the SRU, shower of grasping middle class pr*cks.

Last year I paid £210 for an adult, £110 for an U18. Not comparable though, because that was only for 5 games and next season has 7, and we had World Cup warm-ups instead of proper autumn tests.

The season before last is a straight comparison, same 6 Nations games against Ireland, Wales and Italy, and 4 autumn tests. For that they charged £313 for an adult, £184 for an U18. £44.71 and £26.29 per match. Now they want £605 adult, £305 child, or £86.43 and £43.57 per match.

It's doubled in price per game in two years. It's more than triple what I paid when I first got these seats 7 years ago. If I can't get a move to category 7 seats with a decent view, which is obviously unlikely, that's us done. Even if I can get a move, we've got to know the people we sat around, it was the same folk for the past 7 years and that's done now. I'm really, really disappointed. The big wee fella hates them even more than I do, he doesn't watch much other than Scotland and I think this'll put him off rugby altogether.

Watching home games on TV because we've been priced out would leave a bitter taste in the mouth.

    That's a sickening increase.

Found myself down the Rangers end of the stand and leapt out of my seat at that fantastic Thistle strike.  Wish I'd had some Jags next to me, as I felt I had better reign it in and it deserved a more fitting celebration.  The team gave it their all.  Enjoyable end to my Scottish sporting weekend.  Brian Graham looks one stylish cat.

I was down the Thistle end. I bought my tickets quite early on and I don't think it was well advertised which end was which. No big deal in women's football, but I'd prefer to be in with my own support.

  8. Rangers seem to be running on empty as the end of the season approaches. I think injuries, poor form and questionable tactics seem to be their undoing.

Martinez and McLauchlan being out, and Colson leaving has reduced their options in centre-mid, as Middag drops back.

On Sunday there, first touch seemed to be missing from so many players. The next game after the international break is massive, City at home - could break the season if Celtic get a result in their game.

More due to the reality that there really isn't anyone beyond the current squad really making a case to get in.

This will come up a lot with Patterson. But with Hickey injured, and Ralston not really being any better at the moment than Patterson, it's a real concern.

I also think it's the same with our striking options. Really limited there.

Scotland miss Mcgregor. Not appreciated but a baller. 2 centre half's ot of 4 not good enough. No pace up front. Stay in game win 1_0 that's the only way forward with what's available. Mcgregor is the only pivot.

I felt that last night. I don't think he's been great this season, and been a bit "meh" for us for a while, but with him missing last night, we seemed to lack a dynamism in the middle of the park, someone willing to play between  (the somewhat limited space) the lines or make runs beyond Dykes.

I think  we needed to look at other striking options in this get together,  I would  say 20 -22  of the squad no they are going to Euros .

We should  have looked  at others who could have pushed

Who would you think are the other striking options?

I hoped Shankland would get the start last night after doing reasonably okay against the Netherlands, and was disappointed for Clarke to go back with Dykes - or we could have tried a 2 up front with Shankland and Dykes.

The biggest problem now, it seems, is just plain old finishing.  For most of the game we held them at bay, created chances, but didn't finish them.  At the risk of sounding like I'm putting out the level of punditry you'd get on Super Scoreboard, goals change games.  Put a couple of the really good chances we had away, it's far more likely that those defensive frailties we have don't get exposed.  I'm pretty sure their opener was their only shot on target, and wouldn't be surprised if their second wasn't too far away either.  We both had 13 attempts according to BBC, and they scored 4.  In international football, against these kinds of sides, they 'll take those chances.  We have to as well.

I really think the score line flattered the Dutch. I felt, we had the better of the game, with finishing being our issue.

A lot of ifs and buts, but we take one of those chances, totally changes the game and atmosphere.

Our changes didn't help establish an consistency either, which is to be expected in a friendly, but I am not as downcast as I would normally be, as there was a lot in that first hour of the game that said to me, we can be a team that will challenge, especially to get out the groups.

  14. I watched the Bayern-Stuttgart game last night - very convincing performance. Score within 2 mins, then sat back the rest of the game, just let Stuttgart have the ball.

Stuttgart had 63% overall possession, but did nothing with it with only 2 lame shots on target and 2 corners all game. Bayern on the other hand had 8 shorts on target and six corners for their lower possession.

Was actually incredible to watch, just a better side saying to their opposition, "you are shite, we can do what we want with you".

Thought the atmosphere was really poor at Hampden tonight, the light show stuff and dance music stuff just not really as stirring as 50,000 folk belting a song out, a bit manufactured and fake like an american sporting event imo.

Tifo's almost always destroy the atmosphere, a scourge of the modern game.

Mind you, Norway scoring in 3 minutes, and a pretty lackluster performance in general doesn't help either.

Think some if the criticism of Clark is a bit harsh. I think everyone knows he's not as good as Gordon or Gunn but getting the blame for the goals is a bit odd.

First one, it's hit hard and low from about 5 yards.

Second is fired through a ruck of bodies, it's not like it's gone under him.

A top goalie might save one or both, but it doesn't automatically make them mistakes either. Defence is far more culpable at both than Clark.

First goal was a defensive nightmare, from letting the lad run across half the park, Taylor not covering his runner, same with Porteous, and Clark letting the ball go through him at the near post. Second goal, again, ball has travelled a long way, but in full line of vision for Clark and it's went straight through him.

He's a decent enough goalie in an emergency, or a game like this when not too much is on the line, and he merits his place in the squad, though I would be worried if he was our #1.

Overall, I think the performance not being great, the last 20minuites was a complete credit to the team and to Stevie C. Not to let heads dropped or get sucked into the shambles that was Georgia's play-acting. To get that late equalizer. Fantastic.

In the past, we come away from there with 0pts, instead, we're out of there still maintaining our unbeaten streak in the competition.

The Israelis releasing horrific footage of murders then saying "so you see, you can't compare us with them, look how grim this is" might be the most wretched bit of propaganda iv ever seen.

It's strange piece of footage... rather odd that they were able to obtain footage from both the dashcam and body cams, unless they IDF was right on top of the attackers immediately after the attack.

Big Ange is one of these guys that can’t not like. It’s also enjoyable as so many fans basically slated him sayijg he was coming from a diddy league. Obviously the standard in the English premier league is better than the spl. That’s down to money. However, as mentioned earlier, when you are the manager of Celtic and rangers, you are expected to win every game. There isn’t the same pressure down in the English premier league where most top teams are happy with finishing in the top 4.

I think a good coach is a good coach, no matter what league they are coaching in. It's being able to deal with pressure, and have the force of personality to get the best out of players with big egos.

Scandalous that Scots isn't taught in schools and we are the only nation in the UK lacking a primary indigenous language (Gaelic only ever being confined to a small part of the country).

I am not sure Scotland ever had a primary indigenous language universally understood and spoken across all areas other than English, so it's hardly surprising that our regionally native languages aren't taught across all schools.

The same could be said of France, Italy and Germany. Each region of those countries traditionally has had different languages or very distinct dialect to effectively make it a different language, where the nationally spoken and taught language is the universal language.
