  1. Considering he is unproven at Championship level nevermind the Premiership I think the likelihood of that depends on how strongly you agree with Charlie's theory that Clark is where he is solely due to his father!

Killie fans hate Johnston as it is. I can't imagine the reaction would be too positive if he replaced Boyd with a League 1 bench warmer!

I think on his previous performances for you in the second tier of Scottish football as well as last season's goals tally for a team that walked the league they were in, junior is showing us all that is indeed the case.

  2. Indeed well done to Gavin .It may be that an apology should go out to Charle from some. Hopefully his injury is healing well. Never mind signing him up for the season we should be looking to get him signed up long term.

I wouldn't want or expect an apology from anyone. I'm just pleased to see Gavin is getting some recognition for what he has done. Hopefully next season he will continue his progression and push on.

Squared. I've never disagreed that Reilly is good but his habit of only posting after Gavin plays, scores and QoS win is tedious.

If this was the case I'd have posted on here a lot more frequently.

  3. Strong words do you know of other managers that would be desparate to sign these 2 lads in particular Danny who has been frozen out of the team, what a difference a year makes. ie rumours of moving to SPL sides!

My point exactly, he goes from being nominated by his fellow players last year as one of the players of the season yet this year doesn’t seem to get any game time.

  4. Nowhere near it.

Gavin signed for us the first time in September 2007 as a 14 year old after leaving Rangers youth set up. He left to join Carlisle about a year later but re-signed for the youth set up in March 2009 at 16 when Gordon Chisholm was manager, though he had nothing to do with the youth set up. It was Andy Irving who brought him back in I think. He's been with us ever since, though he was loaned to Gretna for most of the 2010/11 season which was Brannigan's full season in charge. It was MacPherson who first signed him to a full time first team contract, though he had previously made his first team debut under Brannigan before that loan spell at Gretna.

Thanks for that. I thought he was signed for you when he scored his fist goal against Dumbarton before he was sent out to Gretna.

  5. He came throught the youth set up, he was only on loan at Gretna, after he had made and scored on his debut for us.

Thanks for the Scotland Uni score, strong side from them.

Second... I presume... warm-up game of the season for the Scottish Universities national team tomorrow at Queen of the South (though the article is titled "St Johnstone" - were they to play them, at Spartans?).

  6. 1. Sean O'Connor (Unattached - out of retirement and had played a couple of trials at Annan)

    2. Danny Carmichael (Gretna 2008)

    3. Ryan McGuffie (Morton)

    4. Roddy McKenzie (Livingston)

    5. Ross Hyslop (Motherwell)

    6. Allan Johnston (St Mirren)

    7. Lee Robinson (Kilmarnock)

    8. Alex Mitchell (Gretna 2008)

    9. Ryan Conroy (Loan from Celtic)

    10. Colin McMenamin (Dundee)

So a short list and it didn't take long to fill them all in. A mixed bag in terms of success and failure. Two of his 10 are still with us now (McGuffie and Carmichael, though he can take no credit in the Carmichael signing as it was set up before his was in charge).

Of the other eight, Allan Johnston, Colin McMenamin and Lee Robinson did well for us (though Robbo only turned into an exceptional keeper when Gus signed him for a third time). Ryan Conroy was decent too, if not exceptional.

Sean O'Connor wasn't up to it when he returned really. McKenzie didn't work out in goal. Hyslop was basically injured for his entire year back. Alex Mitchell was a 28 day signing to help us out as we'd no fit keepers to start the season after Hutton and McKenzie both got crocked. Mitchell never actually played for us, he just sat on the bench for a couple of games.

Was it not Brannigan who first sign Gavin Reilly for Queens?

  7. Gavin starts and scores, now there's a surprise.

With the talk on here about players that you have signed up to contract extensions. I'm very surprised that Gavin and Danny have not been mentioned. Is it that they will be off somewhere else or is it that your manager just does not rate them and therefore has not offered either anything?

  8. Firstly, congratulations on your win at the weekend.

It was pleasing to read and hear that both Danny and Gavin started and that Gavin scored for you. In the past when I’ve watched them their energy and enthusiasm seemed to be infectious throughout the team and those watching.

Is it just a coincidence that Queens won with them both starting?

Well done again, hope they and the team keep it going.

  10. I’ve been reading things with interest over the last few weeks and it’s evident that not everything is going smoothly at Queen of The South. Not even a quarter of the season gone and there are rumblings of unrest among the supporters. Team selection appears to be bewildering at times as well as the formation.

The team and players sound as though they are shadows of what they were last season.

No goals scored in the last 3 home or league games. Gav was in fact the last one to score a league goal and yet still hasn’t had a start and Danny was on the bench on Tuesday. Strange how things can or are changed so much when they appeared to be fine before they were inherited by your new man.

I’ll watch with interest to see you things develop over this season.
