It's just dawned on me that as I will be turning 35 shortly, I'm now older than the vast majority of current professional footballers. this feels weird

I had the exact same realisation when I hit 36, I remember as a bairn looking at the players at that age, they all seemed like ancient journeymen, well past it.

Too Old to Die Young is, along with Twin Peaks: The Return, one of my favourite ever TV shows. Almost no-one has seen it (it’s buried deep on Amazon Prime, and the streaming service did nothing to promote it) and some of those who started it, gave up early (it’s one of the most extreme examples of ‘slow TV’ ever made). It’s certainly worth sticking with it, as it unfurls at its own pace, leisurely but deadly, like a King cobra. Episode 5 ‘The Fool’ is probably the nastiest, darkest TV episode I’ve ever seen, and the slow motion car chase where the protagonist (played by Miles Teller) chases a pair of depraved pornographers, accompanied by the soundtrack of Barry Manilow’s ‘Mandy’ is a moment of unexpected genius. It’s a needle drop that just shouldn’t work, but it does, beautifully. Cliff Martinez’s pulsing electronic score for TOtDY is as sleek and effective as his scores for ‘Drive’ and ‘Only God Forgives’, and overall it’s an amazingly assured exercise in long-form TV. I’d love to see a second series, but, sadly, it’s never going to happen. Looking forward to immersing myself in Copenhagen Cowboy in due course though.

Thanks for the recommendation, watched the first two episodes last night.  Incredible TV and a travesty that Amazon didn't scream about it from the rooftops.

That tiger scene in ep 1 though.....  😂

Read an article about avoiding smoothies for one thing, sugar content and the other the act of blitzing it all together and not chewing food isn't actually beneficial for our digestive system and teeth. Can't find said article so could be pish. If you don't eat fruit and eat vegetables then it's not the end of the world.

I had the flu before christmas (awful) and now have this lingering cough, not lifted anything heavy in about 3 weeks and worried the motivation for it all is fading, just can't shift this cough though which makes it hard to breath through heavy lifts. Not sure what to do man, just fight through it and go to gym anyway?

Deadlifts, heavy deadlifts.  If I'm ever feeling a bit no well, hungover or just that I can't be bothered with the gym, this is my go to.

Also the easiest compound to bail out on if you get hit with a sudden wave of fatigue.

  4. Spent 5 mins drunkenly spraffing shite to Aziz Ibrahim at the Tollbooth in Stirling when he was touring with The Players.

Funnily enough, I passed Josh Doig on my way down to breakfast this morning.  Hellas Verona train at the hotel I'm staying at.  Didn't talk to him though as I was pretty rough.

As you've specified a couple of films that are/have received remakes, you might be interested to know that Jacob's Ladder received a remake a few years back. Good news - apparently it's shit!

Also, the original version of Funny Games was a lot better than the remake, as I recall. Worth checking out.

I had read that the remake of Funny Games was identical to the original, so never really bothered with it.  Been a while since I saw It though, so I suppose this is a good time to get it watched.

Saw a trailer for the JL remake last year - yeah, that can GTF

  6. The Lives of others

Just booked a ticket for the Elvana gig in Dundee in a few weeks.

A Nirvana tribute act fronted by an Elvis impersonator. This could be the best thing ever, or it could just as easily be the worst thing ever...

Not seen them but I've heard good things about them.

They're brilliant.  I was sceptical going in but it's one of the most fun gigs I've been to.
