If you use your loans correctly you end up with players that are too good for this league but too raw for their parent team. Quite happily have 5/6 loans in as ultimately that should mean we have money to spend elsewhere. For example I fully expect us to bring in a keeper on loan as back up rather than wasting a wage on someone who all going well isn't going to play.

I didn't realise we have 14 players already signed up, 15 if you include Lee Miller. So we're probably only talking about 5/6 new signings to come in if we're lucky.

He divided opinion amongst our support more than any other player but I really like him. Started out as a defender and he played at the back a few times but we converted him into a central midfielder and, while I'm still not sure it's his natural position, I thought he was our best or at least most consistent midfielder last season albeit with some better performances than others. Box-to-box, made some cracking runs forward into the opposition box every game which usually either resulted in a goal or a shot on target and not a slouch at passing or tackling/winning possession either. He scored the first goal at TFS, which was typical of him and the team as a whole at their best, and set up the winner with his long throw. The long throw became less effective as teams worked it out but it's still a potent weapon to have. Very pleased that he's signed on again. He's raw but he's a good player with a lot of potential. Ironically, he's probably exactly the sort of midfielder Falkirk needed last season.
He played well in the preseason games for us so I couldn't understand why we hadn't offered him a deal especially with his versatility, thanks for the summary.

What was Paul Mckay like for you lot last season? We had him in on trial last summer and to be completely honest I forgot he signed with you until I had a look at your current squad on the Airdrie website.

LOAN REGULATIONS AMENDED FOR 2020/21
MAXIMUM NUMBER OF LOAN PLAYERS AT ANY CLUB AT ANY ONE TIME INCREASED TO SIX...
Following a recommendation from the Coronavirus Joint Response Regulation Sub-Group, the SPFL Board has approved new regulations regarding loans between SPFL clubs for the 2020/21 season.
In summary, in relation to domestic loans an SPFL club is now permitted to have registered to it:
(i) a maximum of 6 players on loan at any one time plus any approved emergency goalkeeper (increased from 4);
(ii) a maximum of 2 players on loan at any one time from another club in the same SPFL division (increased from 1); and
(iii) a maximum of 4 players on loan at any one time from another club in a different SPFL division (increased from 2).
6 players allowed on loan this season so hopefully we use that avenue a lot better this year.

Aberdeen have released quite a few of their youngsters this summer might be worth a look considering the last Aberdeen youngster we signed was Robbie Mutch...
The only other one I can think of previous to that is John Stewart though, so we're at two ends of the spectrum there.

@Bainsfordbairn you'll have watched a few of the reserve games last season is young Laverty a striker or more of a winger? I could have sworn he was mentioned as a striker on our website back when he got his bad injury.

Has anyone seen much of Laverty to give us an opinion on whether or not he's likely to be involved this season?

I've been trying to see if Mcracken or Miller used to play with him in the hope there would be some sort of old pals act. Wiki hasn't gave me the answers I was looking for.

So you lose a 19 goal striker and replace him with a 6 goal striker, well done. Vaughan may or may not stay fit we have to wait and see but if he does then he's far better than anything Falkirk has. Guaranteed we will bring in 2 strikers and a 3rd on loan so we'll be okay up front. How did it go when you tried to sign Regan Hendry that's right he signed for us and helped us get promotion. As I've said enjoy the seaside league, one more season and your in it for the long haul no pressure.
I don't think we ever tried to sign Regan Hendry so you've fell flat with that one. Think it was more of a case he was on loan at Raith so decided to sign on permanently with them when his contract ran out at Celtic. Had we actually been in for him i'm pretty sure we both know who he'd have signed for.

Also we've got Telfer, Todd and Leitch who can play number 10. That's not me saying that I think any of them are the answer but it does make it less likely we'll sign another player in that position.

There was an East Fife fan last season who made a fucking hilarious post about how their players had immense pace and power and one of their midfielders could "thread a pass through the eye of a needle". Wonder if it's the same lunatic. I need to try and find that post it was amazing.
He's claimed on the east fife thread his dads a 'grounds man' which is why he's in the know about the mcnulty transfer.

Need a number 10 IMO. Danny Swanson?
Thoughts?
He's always tore us apart when he's played us but at 33 is he still going to as good? But I do agree we need a number 10 that's going to get left to do what he wants like Higginbotham the Farid season. Someone who'll just float around up the park and make things happen.

Darren Dodds?

You enjoy watching a striker that scored 6 league goals last season. Outstanding signing.
That the same 6 league goal striker who wasn't interested in joining your team? Sad state of affairs that.

I was wondering this myself and have 4231 in the back of my mind with Telfer playing in front of the 2. Not sure I could listen to the only 1 up front brigade if that was the plan!
I'm hoping Lewis or one of the others on FTV ask them that question, not about where specific players will play, more the plan they have in their head. Like surely they've got a system they'd like to play and then will work to get players who fit that system.

There is a possibility that M&M are looking to play a 352, which may be the reason they’re loading up on central midfielders. They played 352 in their first couple of games so it maybe their preferred formation
I'm praying they only played that formation because they had to with the squad of players they inherited. We don't need to play with 3 centre backs in this league unless they want to play like sheffield united but I don't really see Durnan or Hall bombing into the oppositions half too often. 4-2-3-1 with 3 speed demons in behind Dowds or a good old fashioned 4-4-2 hopefully.

I doubt we'll bother wasting a wage on a back up goalie so unless we pick up a really cheap option we'll most likely get one in on loan again. I'm happy with a Dowds type signing someone who's not the finished article but there's clearly potential there to develop on with full time football. Dundee United were brilliant at it for years picking up the hidden gems in the lower leagues that's what we need to aspire to as we don't really have the money or the position right now to bring players up from down south.

And one of those young, vibrant midfielders has just knocked back an offer from Clyde, is a free agent and, like Dowds, looking for a crack at full-time. He'd make a huge difference to our midfield.
If you're talking about Ray Grant I think he's a shoe in to sign on with his old buddy brother at Queens Park. Then there's mcstay who there was some talk of us being after last summer which doesn't fill me with confidence given our signings last season were more miss than hit.

I wonder if Miller might go back to RB this season where he’s played most of his career given that Doyle has moved on
Mutch
Miller - Hall - Durnan - Dixon
Todd - Telfer - Gomis - Connolly
Dowds - New signing/Sammon/BSLMI know you're only working with who we currently have signed at the moment but hopefully that won't be anywhere near the starting line up come the 6th of October. Miller will be in centre midfield and hopefully if m&m have learned from last season not with Gomis. I've not really seen much of Todd to work out what his best position is but i'm pretty sure him and Telfer are pretty similar in that they aren't fast enough to be wingers and they are too soft to play in the middle of the park.

Just out of interest how many players were furlonged - hopefully that saved us fortune so we can go on spending spree!
Good to see Methill's letting the town idiot use the libraries computer again. Mcnulty will be a belter of a signing for you lot.

Leitch was given a new deal last year and popped out on loan for the second half of the season I'd be very surprised if he's then put out on loan again this season.
