  1. You wd imagine that nobody on committee knew about the player having a test..If so as you say things like this will get games stopped.
AAFA president Mr Mair...surely time to get ur house in order???

House is in good order thanks, maybe get your facts straight before slinging mud. I await your apology.

  2. Yeah why Galston allowed a player to train when he was waiting on results is mind boggling. Unless he kept it to minself. Things like that can get the game at this level stopped. Hope all the lads are safe.

Lot of nonsense, get your facts straight.

Player’s girlfriend tested positive on Friday, player had trained on Thursday so we decided to be cautious and call the game off. Player got tested on Saturday and result came back yesterday as negative.

Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.
  3. Two wrongs don’t make a right FFS I gave you more credit than that. It’s two different ‘wrongs’ Any right minded person would scrap the game suspensions after seven months of not being able to complete a ban for probably minor offences but the guy whose head butted or done worse could be getting off Scot free We are going to have a problem at all levels trying to get guys back playing and we should be encouraging people to play not stopping them for in light of what we’ve been through, are trivial offences.

Two guys get sent off for denying a goal scoring opportunity and get a one match ban each, one of them was a nothing foul but the other one broke a guy’s leg. Same punishment but which one is more trivial and who decides?

Or a guy that punches another player and gets a 6 match ban should just be ignored? Or a guy that breaks another guy’s leg in a bad tackle gets a 3 match ban that should be ignored?

  4. Bit strange this one. If suspensions remain guys who had a 1 game suspension for a very minor thing will miss games. Then guys who got a 6 month suspension for spitting, headbutting or whatever will miss ZERO games. Is that fair????

But is it fair that a guy who had a 3 game suspension would not be punished at all, so misses the same amount of football as someone who has not had any suspension?

Two wrongs don’t make a right.
  5. Fair enough Graham. Surely in this day and age AGMs can be had thru conference calls tho

Yes, we could do it by Zoom.

We could also wait and see what the government are going to announce tomorrow and discuss at an Exec Committee meeting, before making a suggestion to the clubs for dates and venues for the AGM.

We want it to be safe and within government guidelines, but we have also looked into other options.
  6. I heard that almost all of the proposals have been binned by the executive as they dont meet the Scottish amatuer standards/ rules.

If this is true then for me is just embarrassing for the clubs that's put them in and another example that they are just putting propels forward to suit themselves and not all the clubs. Doesn't even sound like they are legal never mind beneficial.

Either way the ayrshire fa really need to stop dragging their heels. Almost every other association at this level have let the clubs know what's happening for the season ahead.

We have let the clubs know what’s happening for the season ahead, but they were all perfectly entitled to put forward other proposals to be voted for at the AGM.

It’s the clubs that decide what the league structure will be and we can only do that at an AGM, and will only have that meeting when it’s safe to do so.
  7. Going by some reports there are some teams that are back already.
Juniors been told training to provisionally resume early August with leagues starting in October.
You would think Amateurs would be the same, hopefully there is some kind of announcement this week so Clubs no where they stand.

Like I said, the Return to Football Hub has all the information on it, and updates have been issued by the SAFA and the Leagues. The Scottish Government haven’t announced dates of when we’ll move between phases so any dates past that are just rumour and best guesses.

  8. My team has a full preseason  planned starting mid July with friendlies proviosnally arranged. Assuming the guidelines dont change, amatuer football should be able to return from 13th of July as it will surely be classed as an organised outdoor contact activity.
Unless I'm totally missing something, leagues should be starting by Septmeber.

I’m afraid that yes, you’re totalling missing something. The July 13th date refers to youth football, not amateurs.

    https://www.scottishfa.co.uk/news/coronavirus-joint-response-group-update-24-june/

“We are pleased that plans are under way to introduce live outdoor events with physical distancing and restricted numbers, potentially as early as July 23. While we appreciate this area is subject to further public health advice, we will nevertheless work with the government to seek clarity on this advice in relation to the August 1 start to the Scottish Premiership season.

We also note the Phase 3 guidance that organised outdoor contact sport can resume for children and young people, potentially from July 13. Again, we will consult with ministers, government advisers and sportscotland to fully understand what this means for the gradual return of grassroots football.”

“live outdoor events with physical distancing and restricted numbers, potentially as early as July 23” does not mean 11 v 11 friendlies, this will probably be a relaxation of the CURRENT guidelines of football with 2 other households, up to a maximum of 8 people with physical distancing.

The Return to Football Hub from the Scottish FA gives you all the info you need.

  9. Personally I think the committee do a great job and it's a thankless task at times because I know it's extremely hard to get members to join a committee in any sport so dont think for a minute I'm having a go at the executive... far from it actually!!

I do however think whilst the current climate provides extreme uncertainty, I also think it provides an opportunity to look at things as a whole and see if changes can be made to the current setup to make it better for all involved.

Teams fold each season for various reasons, probably the most obvious one is player commitment and for that reason alone I think you'd stand a better chance of keeping clubs in the association if they weren't playing in a league of 9 or 10 teams.

Say you're going for promotion and another team also in the hunt has 2 home games against you because you play each other 3 times, hows that fair? Luck of the draw I know but its hardly appealing in my opinion.

The main reason for any of my comments on this thread and directed at you since you commented is to find out if it's the executive who decide which proposals go to the floor or if all proposals go to the floor to be voted on by the member clubs.

I didn’t think you were having a go, no need to worry about that. I’m more than happy for people to have a different opinion to me and share it, as I’m more than happy to give my opinion!

The decisions on league structure are made by the clubs, the executive would obviously put forward what they thought was the best option but it’s up to the clubs to decide.

My personal opinion is that the second divisions haven’t worked as well as we would have liked, but I also don’t think it’s as bad as some are suggesting. We proposed another, more radical structure at the time which was rejected. But I don’t think the numbers are right for a premier league and first division of 14 clubs, there’s simply not enough weeks in the season to complete the leagues, the numbers just don’t add up.

And as I’ve said, I don’t think the time is right to change given the huge amount of uncertainty, it would be far better to have a structure in mind for a year or two and work towards it in a logical manner, so teams know exactly what they are aiming for.
  10. Thanks for the update and clarification Graham.

Can I ask if any proposals put forward by clubs are presented to member clubs to vote on?

Or is it a case of the executive decide what they like and what works then put it to a vote from the clubs?

Regardless of associations trying out larger numbers in a league for a season or not, they're still willing to try it out.

The AAFA proposal of 11-12-10-10 is just cop out tbh. Its basically saying this season didnt happen but you're not getting your membership fees from last season back and any suspensions will carry over to the 20-21 season. It also only suits the teams who are sitting in a relegation position. Fair enough you cant award titles etc and I totally agree with that but you cant say the season basically hasn't happened but still uphold suspensions and not refund membership fees. Whatever way you word it, that's what's happened if you don't look at a reconstruction

The rules are decided by the clubs at the AGM, same as every year.

The SSMAFL have increased their league to 16 for one season based on the current situation, but they might end up only playing each other once, or scrapping a cup or two.

So we could put the leagues up to 18 (for example) for one season, and then have 8 clubs relegated at the end of the season to get back to 12, when you include 2 being promoted??
We could increase the number of teams in a league and scrap a cup (as the Caledonian league have done), again that’s up to the clubs to decide.
Or we could have one big league of 43 and play each other once, with no cups.

You’re perfectly entitled to your opinion about the decision of the committee, but as you would expect I disagree completely. You say it’s right not to award titles but clubs should be promoted, where’s the logic in that?

Do you think that it’s right to look at reconstruction during the current period of massive uncertainty, would it not be better to wait until the numbers are known and everyone knows what they’re playing for?
  11. Graham you have mentioned about the leagues needing to be completed by the safa AGM. Is that the same "this season"

What I mean is that did the SAFA give permission for associations to try and complete their leagues whenever its deemed safe or were they to be stopped and the associations decide how best to award places etc.

In theory, if the government allowed grassroots to get back to playing in Jan/ Feb, would the SAFA allow clubs to finish the 19/20 season then.

I appreciate it's almost impossible to say if it would work with squads etc. I'm just asking if it's actually been specified if its allowed.

It’s in the Constitution and Rules so it’s the same every season. It’s up to the individual leagues to ask for an extension.
  12. You'll never please everyone but in my opinion I would reconstruct the leagues and award places based on a points by game average. I wouldn't go as far as awarding someone a league trophy but as I said, if it's good enough for the top division in Scotland to be finalised by a points per game average then why can't they do it with amateur?

The biggest mistake was the SAFA not telling each association what to do with their respective leagues.

They were quick enough to tell all clubs that they cant train etc but they wouldn't make the decision on how leagues should finish?

It should be uniformed across the country and fed down from the top to the bottom. What's the point in having a governing body who wont make the difficult decisions and have just passed the buck onto the associations to do as they please.

The SSMAFL has 16 teams in its premier division so clearly it works.

There is two local cups for all ayrshire clubs or 3 if you count the Donsport. Is there really a need for all of that?

There is an argument that with 14 teams in the premier league would be too many league games and run the risk of seasons still being played in june. Why is that an issue? Surely that's the price u pay for being successful and putting together a cup run.

Last couple of seasons you've had teams not playing for 2-3 weeks when they've only 2-3 league games left.

Another question I would ask is why cant ayrshire produce a fixture list more than a week in advance? Junior clubs and boys clubs have their fixtures 3 months in advance then if a cup competition comes into play then they take priority.

Btw the match sec has done a fantastic job over the years, not saying anything bad against him but I do feel that fixtures could be laid out for 4-6 games at a time minimum.

A couple of points on this I can respond to.

The SAFA didn’t tell teams they couldn’t train, the Scottish Government did. And they continue to do so.

The SSMAFL only have 16 in their Premier League for this year coming, they don’t know what their season will look like yet. I think they finished season 2018/19 with 13 teams in their Premier League.

All matches must be played before the SAFA AGM which is in June, as per the Constitution & Rules. You need to request an extension to play after this, but ideally games should be completed before it.

The reason teams don’t play for 2-3 weeks while waiting to play their last 2-3 fixtures is because they’re waiting their turn to play the team having a successful season, so this would get worse if that team plays well into June. The price to pay for having a good cup run also affects the other teams you still have to play.

Ayrshire can’t produce a league fixture more than a week in advance for a number of reasons; clubs can apply for free weeks during the season with 2 weeks notice (this also means if they didn’t fancy one of the fixtures they were given they could get a free week and avoid it), Scottish and West cup fixtures take precedence and can change due to postponements or replays, several clubs play at the same venue so changing one fixture could mean having to change several fixtures, changing one fixture will mean changing several depending on who you’ve already played, cup draws are done during the season rather than all at once so we don’t know what the cup ties are until the draw is made.

This would all mean the Match Secretary would be re-doing work and re-issuing fixtures every week. It’s already a big job and this would make it 4 or 5 times harder / worse. The benefit of getting a fixture 3 or 4 weeks in advance is only a benefit if that fixture doesn’t change 3 times, which it could.
Issuing weeks of fixtures is only really possible at the start of the season before the cups start, which we have done for the past few years.
  13. A lot of rules changes required within the SAFA and Leagues but possible and that's the easy bit ......I would think Leagues that a struggling could be worth considering [ though after this we could find more are ]
Do something about it then......not just talk about it

Zero rule changes are required, SAFA rules already allow for summer football and there are summer leagues already, so people will need to find someone else to blame than the dinosaurs.

There’s no need to move every league from winter to summer, SAFA already have a mixture of summer and winter leagues.

All it takes is for a league or association to start a summer division, or a new summer league to be created. IF there really is demand for it then I’m sure a division or league will be created, but if everyone sits back and blames everyone else for not doing it, then it won’t happen. Everyone coming up with excuses for it not happening, but there’s absolutely no reason why it can’t be done in the current SAFA set up.
  14. Yes a NEW league.

Maybe I picked the forum up wrong but in pretty sure we rte talking about moving many associations and thousands of teams from the regular season to a summer season.

The whole of scotland 35s all play through the summer so there isnt an issue with different leagues and cups being ran out with that.

Why do we have to move every league to summer season? Why not have some winter season and some summer season, whatever the demand dictates?

If there’s such a demand for a summer league I’m sure someone will start one.
  15. As long as Grassroots football falls under SFA umbrella I cant see summer football ever happening. The SFA are never going to move their season to run different from the rest of the main European leagues. They would have issues with champions league and Europa League. In return the SAFA SJFA etc would also have problems when their teams earn the right to play in the senior Scottish Cup.

Summer football happens now, under the SFA and SAFA umbrella and there are even specific rules for it already in the SAFA Constitution.

If there’s a demand for a summer league then there’s no reason why a new league couldn’t start.
  16. So Graham what do the rules and Constitution say then. Will 2 teams still get relegated and 3 promoted or 1 relegated and 2 promoted

The resignation hasn’t been confirmed yet, but the rules are as follows:

If a club in the Premier League which has commenced playing matches resigns its membership or ceases to function and its resignation is accepted on or after 1st March or the date it ceases to function is deemed by the Executive Committee to be on or after 1st March, the number of clubs to be relegated
shall be reduced by one. In the event of the Premier League being further reduced in similar circumstances to those set out above, no clubs will be relegated.
  17. Wont happen, if mossblown have folded guaranteed the Ayrshire FA will only relegate 1 side from the Premier because they dont like relegating clubs incase they spit the dummy and fold, so only 2 of the 3 u mentioned will be going up

Promotion and relegation are covered by the Constitution and Rules, including when clubs resign from the league. The number of clubs promoted when a club resigns depends on when it happens.
  18. On behalf of the SAFA, we’re looking for volunteers for someone from clubs to film their Kelme Scottish Cup and Sunday Trophy matches on MyCujoo next weekend. All you need is an iPhone (and probably a backup power pack) and the MyCujoo app. The app is very easy to use, we’ll be working with them to get the games set up and then you film the match and click to create highlights during the game itself. The MyCujoo app has recently been updated so that it can all be done by one person, we’ve been asked to test this out for them and provide feedback.

We’re also trying to build content for the competition and to boost the number of amateur games on the platform, it will be a great advert for your club and the players in your team as well as building the sponsorship with Kelme. Individual players can be tagged in the highlights, which are 40 second clips.

If anyone is interested please contact me either on here or by direct message, we’re hoping to get 4 games from each day. Please let me know if there are any questions and I’ll do my best to answer them.

    Thanks

  19. Galston United are accepting applications for the role of Team Manager for the forthcoming 2019/20 Season, where we will be playing in the Ayrshire AFA First Division.

Galston Utd are an established Ayrshire amateur team with almost 50 years of history, having won the Ayrshire Cup, South Ayrshire Cup and Donsport Trophy numerous times, with some strong runs in the National Competitions over the years, including narrowly losing out in The Scottish Cup Final at Hampden. We have competed at the top of the Ayrshire Premier League for a number of seasons, been part of the top division for almost 20 years and looking to bounce back from this season’s disappointment.

The Manager will be responsible for training sessions and managing the team for matches on Saturdays at 2pm or 2:30pm, and some midweek matches at the beginning and end of the season, which runs from August to May. They will also take on a place on the club committee.

We have a core squad of players searching for some leadership to challenge for the First Division title and regain our position in the top league in Ayrshire. We train and play our home games on the 4G surface at Loudoun Academy, Galston.

If you are interested please get in touch via private message or contact Graham Mair on 07834 545561
