1. Charles Green has pledged to hand boss Ally McCoist up to £30m for new signings when the club's transfer embargo is lifted. LINK. laugh.gif

That article reminds me of this one...

Walter Smith will be handed a massive January cheque book if Scots billionaire Craig Whyte succeeds in his £30million bid to buy Rangers. LINK. laugh.gif

There's some massive teams in Div 2. £30m might not cover it. blink.gif

Hargreave Hale has disclosed a significant stake in Rangers football club following its return to the stock market.

According to an announcement posted on the London Stock Exchange, Giles Hargreave's (pictured) investment firm owns a little more than five million shares of the firm accounting for a 7.71% stake.

The firm said 4.7 million of the shares were held through unit trusts operated by Marlborough Fund Managers, with the remainder held on behalf of other discretionary clients.

The purchase took place on 18 December ahead of the company's float on the Alternative Investment Market on 19 December at 70p per share. Shares ended the session on 76p, increasing the value of Hargreave Hale's stake to £3.8 million.

Rangers, which was formed in 1872 and won 54 top flight titles, has gone through the most difficult period in its history after falling into administration on 13 February.

In the summer members of the Scottish Premier league voted against Rangers' membership, resulting in the club being demoted to the Scottish third division.

The club, which is sitting at the top of the third division, announced its intention to return to the market earlier this month. It said it hoped to raise up to £20 million to strengthen the squad, improve and develop the club's properties and facilities, as well as providing additional working capital.

After the successful float, which exceeded expectations raising £22.5 million, Rangers' chief executive Charles Green expressed his 'joy' in an interview with the Glasgow Evening Times and said it marks the 'rebirth' of the football club.

'This is definitely the springboard for the rebirth of Rangers,' Green told the paper. 'Never in Rangers' history did it sit there with no debt, no borrowings, with cash in the bank. The enterprise value of Rangers is still very, very low and that's why, I believe, institutions have invested in it.'

He added: 'Having that list of institutions is a real endorsement that, not just people who are passionate about Rangers, but the hard-nosed, financial investment manager in London has looked at it and he's put his cash there. For me, that's another endorsement that what we're doing is the right thing.'

I'm more of a lurker than a poster, so this may be stating the bleeding obvious.

Surely these investor types must know that they are being wholly inaccurate when describe as Rangers having been in administration, when they have been liquidated.

They must also surely know that they are reporting about a new company, so references to the old company returning is not correct.

They also talk about investing in the club, when surely they mean investing in the holding company. The holding company owns the club, but can sell bits and pieces of their assets if they want to. You might as well say you're investing in Ally McCoist's syrup.

You could go on about the whole "demoted" stuff, but thats also false.

Is there not some kind of city watchdog that is responsible for ensuring the information being disseminated by the company being floated is accurate?

  3. Serious question.

If "Rangers died for nothing" and an early decision could have saved them....

Why did the club withhold and conceal documents that might have made this whole process complete a long time ago?

Seems to my uninitiated eyes that they thought they were bang to rights and were trying to cover it up.

It will be interesting to see what happens when the tax man asks for the tax on the loans (not the repayments).

For the rest of us, does this whole "loan that doesn't ever need to be paid back" give a whole new way to transfer money around without having to pay things like Capital Gains Tax or Inheritance Tax? Just give it as a loan and save yourself a bundle!

  4.
It's been well documented and wee benny knows full well ..

a) Celtic never set up the scheme the player already had one in place.

b) The payer concerned asked for his leaving payment (not his regular weekly wages) to be paid into the scheme

c) Celtic reported it to the authorities after taking proper legal advice (Celtic lawyers know their job) and paid all taxes due.

Rangers .. well it seems they still use the same old legal infirm ..
I stand corrected and lazy!

I do take umbridge with ... " we have been world news for the past four or five months" a popular myth amongst Old Firm fans, even in the current climate - yes there's a draw from ex-pats but no-one outside of Scotland really gives a flying f'ck about us, and I say that having lived outside of Scotland for over 15 years !

And it appears that nobody on that site noticed that Ally McCoist is a f'cking dreadful football manager huh.gif

I can confirm that. Barely registered as a blip in the news even on a no news day.

Here's a novel idea. If these fans are so sure of rangers ability to pay their way, maybe they should sign up as guarantors along with their season tickets.

Not so sure now I suppose.

  6. So McMoist is complaining about having £1.3m of prize money withheld.

Now, I'm no expert and have had a few beers....but, wouldn't the prize money for last season be due to the oldco?

So Sally has no right to complain about it. The liquidators can chase it if they want.

In addition, every time someone from sevco brings up money it completely invalidates their entire argument....how much money did they owe and 'walk away' from?

Why would the SFA jeopardise their own standing in world football for something as trivial as the olympic games which is even more tainted than FiFA. The whole ethos of sport has been corrupted by commercialism . Football in the Olympics are a sideshow that has no more relevance than those of the tennis fraternity. Come on you only have to see the attitude of fellow football supporters around the country with the ticket uptake.

Great Ryan Giggs finally gets to play a big game but if he was in his twenties I bet he wouldn't have been anywhere near the competition. Perhaps he may get know for something other than a super injunction before retiring.

To be fair, the SFA's shambolic handling of the rangers issue has probably done more harm to their standing in world football than letting a couple of u21s play for Team GB.

Super scoreboard reading out McCoist's statement , piss off !!! the guy doesn't know the difference between punishment and consequence.

If they are found guilty of the double contracts etc, then they will not be in any position to say what they will or won't accept.

    The guy is a clown

    Why is this a negotiation?

It should be these are the membership conditions. If you don't accept them, then do one. Bye bye.

I hope they die proper this time. No contrition, no understanding of the scale of what they've done.
