Any chance Waters could be called back if Killie punt Taylor?
I’m pretty sure they have an option to recall in January but not before.0 -
Then if there is no manager, or effectively no manager with OK being out of favour, things do stand still. I understand your point I was just saying that GLS said the appointment of GM as DoF was to prevent this happening again after last season.
All managers come into a rump of existing players if you trust the DoF method then you accept his judgement, if not then as I said GM is effectively just an overpaid Chief Scout.
Yeah, to an extent things will stall. I personally don’t think it’s right for anyone other than the manager to decide on who signs. You’re right though, effectively he is an chief scout but at least the process of identifying players doesn’t stop & it’s for the new manager to decide from the ones shortlisted.1 -
I think Gus was appointed so that things don’t stand still if there’s a bit of turmoil going on, which has been happening more often than not the last few seasons. He is busy identifying players & then puts them to the manager who has the final say.
IMO, it would be daft to sign players without consulting with the new manager, which is why I think we’re slightly behind with recruitment.1 -
Wasn't the appointment of a DoF supposed to prevent this?
Absolutely, but we had the unwanted uncertainty of Oran’s future to deal with.
Gus & co identity the players which suit the profile then as mentioned in GS interview yesterday, They knew for a while that it looked possible that OK was leaving hence the fast appointment of Goodwin. Leaving the final decision to Jim on the players who meet our profile.
I’m pretty sure a lot of work has been done with regards to recruiting players & I think it makes sense to make sure Goodwin likes them before offering them contracts.2 -
Absolutely no need to panick, granted the majority of trialists last night didn’t look good enough but at least they’re not our players. Last season Stubbs filled the squad with guys of that standard. We’ve had a look at them, they’re not up to it so will hopefully be told to look elsewhere. I did think Djorkaeff & the number 22 looked decent.
We’re a bit behind with recruitment at this stage but I’d rather wait for the right players instead of getting bodies in for the sake of it.0 -
10+ this season
And he wouldn’t get a game at bottom 6 clubs
These 10+ games were obviously before January then.

No any Better than some of the GKs over the last few years, Samson or Ridgers etc.
This just proves that you don’t have a clue what you’re talking about here.
Utter ballocks.

1 million?!! That’s laughable he is an average GK at best? Wouldn’t get a game for any of the bottom 6 sides
Yes, £1 million. Not laughable at all with the current transfer market valuations.
Out of interest, how many times have you seen him play?
On your last point... aye, nae bother [emoji1303]0 -
On the Stevie May chat, he will definitely not sign for us. He is a good player though & I think whoever signs him will be getting a good striker who just needs a couple of early goals & it could be a great bit of business for them.

Anything less than £1 million for Hladky would be shite.

Absolutely delighted with the appointment of Goodwin. Everything about it fits & it just seems the right move at the right time.
When he was rumoured to be going to Dundee, I did feel a bit gutted as I believe he’ll be a huge influence around our club & if he had went to Dens & did a good job he may of got a bigger move & the chance to get him in would be gone. It’s not though, he’s here & I’m really looking forward to the season ahead.

He’s some man our Tony! [emoji23]2 -
I'd absolutely take Sammon, and have said so all along.
They’re still still 6/1 just now.
Agreed, Sammon wouldn’t be the worst signing. Very disappointing but not surprising end to the transfer window.0 -
Lewis Morgan not even made the bench for Celtic tonight [emoji102]

Totally agree. Is this what the months of hard work behind the scenes has resulted in ?
Let’s remember it’s The Sun who are reporting this before we jump in with both feet and criticise the club.
I was at the Q&A night and by the sounds of things, the new system for scouting players sounds very good.0 -
McShane did a job for us last season but unfortunately just isn’t good enough for the Premiership.
Good luck to him at Falkirk, will always be thankful for the part he played last season.1 -
Was very impressed with how he spoke and how comprehensively he explained Gus McPhersons role in the recruitment process and the steps we will now take to ensure that all players coming in from here on out are scouted as thoroughly as possible.
He was also very open about how desperately he's anticipating January and his absolute conviction that any one he wants moved on, will move on.
Yeah, agreed. He gave a very in-depth explanation of Gus’ role at the club & IMO think it could be very useful going forward.
Enjoyed listening to Oran tonight & I think given time he will be a success.0 -
Just back from the Q&A with Oran & Brian... thought that Oran spoke very well and answered all questions thoroughly & honestly.
We can expect quite a lot of business in January, with no real surprises who will be departing.
With regards to the January recruitment, he won’t be dipping into the Irish market as he feels it’s unfair to bring in part time players at a time where he needs instant impact. He will explore that avenue in summer when the player(s) have time to settle & adjust to full time football with a full pre-season.
Josh Heaton is not currently training with his first team squad... said it’s up to Josh to show what’s required to work his way into his first team plans.
I must say with the shambolic summer recruitment I am quite impressed with the new recruitment process set up & I’m pretty sure we won’t see such a terrible transfer window again.
I know we’re in a terrible position at the moment but left St. Mirren Park tonight feel quite optimistic that we can turn it around.
Well done to Oran.3 -
Very strange timing considering it’s the end of the international break. Been coming for weeks!
As a St. Mirren fan, I’m very disappointed with this decision... unless you’s go for Stubbs.0 -
BM away back to Birmingham. Didn’t really get a proper chance but didn’t look great when he did play. No point him being here if Kearney doesn’t rate him.

It was initially a poor decision by the board to appoint Stubbs on a 3 year deal but fair play to them for acting quickly when they realised their mistake. This will give the place a huge lift!

Obviously the board just don’t trust Stubbs. Clearly offered Kenny Miller a decent deal to come in but now players need to move on first before anyone else can be signed!
Jim McIntyre to be appointed by the end of September is my prediction.
Whoever replaces Stubbs will have a near impossible job with this shite & unbalanced squad.3 -
Don't think he should be allowed to blow anymore of the budget.
Go with what we've got, he'll be papped before October is out, new guy comes in (Hopefully Goody) and rips apart the shit left behind by Stubbs. Just need to hope we're still in touching distance of our relegation rivals. Sounds like we've been here before [emoji848]
Very true, he’s quite clearly incapable of bringing in players that can improve the squad. I think it’s already damage limitation with how costly his appointment will be. Agreed, can’t see Stubbs being manager much longer.0 -
So we’ve missed out on another target, who we apparently pushed the boat out to sign. I think Kenny would be worth a gamble on a years contract but no chance on a 2 year deal, probably not the worst outcome on this specific target.
However, the current squad are far from good enough to stay in the league... especially with a manager who’s incapable of playing our best players in their best positions.
What now? My guess is Stubbs signs more sub-standard players & he will be sacked before the end of September.
Winning the league last season seems years ago, fucking depressing!4

Seems like a very decent bit of business by the club. Feeling optimistic for the season ahead!!
