  1. It's mainly down to Hopkin being smart and knowing the right players to bring in.

We've got a new owner in who's keeping us run tight to a budget, so the guy above is wrong. We had a good run in the cup last year. After all the incomings and outgoings this window we're set to shave 1k off our monthly budget at the end of the window. We have a steady attendance of over 1,000 which isn't much but it's a little bit of stability. We've got players like Mackin on £250 a week with a £5 goal bonus [emoji3]

Hopkin's mentality seems to be picking up players who are on their way up in their career, guys who will go onto bigger things.

The club is run on a small full time scale with some players being given part time wages, one of the biggest reasons we can do this is that the majority of our squad have came from League1/2. Pittman came from the juniors, Byrne came from Dunfermline's League One winning team, Mullin came from Albion Rovers, Robinson from East Fife, Lithgow and Cadden came from Airdrie. Not to mention we've been making use of the loan system to pick up players with something to prove.

The rest we picked up on free contracts, re: Alexander, Halkett, De Vita, Gallagher.

The ones that came from the leagues below were almost always free contracts and I don't remember the last time we paid a fee but we have a manager who looks at opposition players when we play them and identifies who he wants. He said that he's been after Hardie for two years now consistently trying to get him through the door.

The majority of the players who come to us are doing so to use us as a stepping stone and take a lesser wage to do so.

    Keep believing mate [emoji102]

  2. As far as I'm aware we pay as much as we can towards their wage.

We are effectively paying as much for a loan as any other signing and I guess at times even more. I've even heard of clubs wanting a fee for a loan player in recent times but I'm not 100% sure how accurate that info is.

Loan wages usually less than signed players. No loan fee at Dumbarton level.
  3. That's the sort of thing I heard from a director. Locke wanted him out and Drysdale pushed him in the direction of Dumbarton because they were willing to pay his wages.
On the point of directors and their influence, some of them were not involved in the appointment of Gary Locke.
Might all come out in the wash quite soon.

    Fair enough.
Still got agreed by somebody on the board though.

Management was backed. League 1 teams wanted him but for his future development it was agreed Dumbarton in Championship was best club to progress when they made an enquiry.
  4. He is a full time footballer on loan at a part time club. He will still train with them at least two days a week. That was one of the main reasons Celtic wanted to move Joe Thomson to a full time loan so he was with one ckub all the time instead of having to try to work other days with Celtic when their schedule wasnt necessarily ideal for it.

Sorry SD but it wasn't Celtic that wanted to move the player on it was both the player and his agent. Celtic were keen for Joe to stay at Dumbarton the full season just like Lindsay & Watters the previous season [emoji3]
  5. A favourite of mine would be Gary Bollan. Won the second and first divisions with Livingston and was doing well enough in the Championship when given the bullet for 'not playing enough youngsters'. Running away with the second division again with Forfar and not even quoted on McBookie.

Are you missing Forfar relegation last season [emoji53]

  6. Aitken has really turned things around since the Bonnyrigg disgrace and for that I'd much rather he stayed but don't kid yourself on that he's working with a small budget. I have no doubt it's lower than most, if not all in the division but it wont be by a great deal and it's absolutely not a pittance.

We have guys who will be on a very, very healthy part-time wage. I'd say our current squad is on a hell of a lot more than any Ian Murray squad was.

You'd be wrong on your final point but agree that part time wages are decent these days!
  7. Is he away to Stranraer as a coach or assistant gaffer?

On the OS Stevie said "We are sorry to lose Alan as he's a popular member of our backroom staff but I understand his reason for leaving." I can only assume that means he's away there as assistant, otherwise his reason for leaving would be fairly strange.

Away to do similar role at Stranraer.
  8. There is always a cancelation option. It may not be written into the loan agreement but if all three parties agreed it was for the best to cancel it (after 28 days) then it could be cancelled. As noted though he still wouldnt be eligible for Raith's first team. Of course Dumbarton could refuse a request to cancel but its not generally the done thing when you are borrowing someone else's player. The sort of thing that leads to other clubs not loaning you players in future.

    No agreement in place!
  9. I keep having to remind myself that, save Carswell and Nade yesterday, this is the same Sons team that prior to December were struggling to create chances from open play, let alone shots on target and goals. Our possession stats must have improved greatly as well and there's a lot more variety in our play. Credit is due to both players and management. Yesterday was as enjoyable as any game during Ian Murray's first 18 months. The transformation in Andy Stirling has been quite remarkable. He's playing like a man possessed. Calum Gallagher was also pretty effective in the half hour or so that he was given.

Six changes from team that finished v Bonnyrigg Rose!

  10. We were linked with him in the Summer, or last January, as has been said, he's massively unfit these days and seems to get trials based solely on the massive potential he once showed. Im not convinced he'd do well for you, but if he suddenly decided to knuckle down he'd be a standout in this country, chances of that are slim, though.

    Load of rubbish [emoji53]
