  1. I'd touched on this elsewhere earlier in the week, but I still think that our biggest failing over the last few years was our failure to replace George Adams. Other than when Roy turns up with his latest idea (which go unchallenged by anyone anymore as far as I'm aware), the club has been utterly directionless both on and off the pitch and it's been frankly pretty embarrassing.

Always liked George when I met him, think he did a lot more behind the scenes than most of us realised. Him and Derek were obviously a formidable and effective team. Interesting (and delighted) to see that Derek has proved he doesn't need him by his side now aswell. Presumably his wage/position was absorbed by taking on the subsequent 'bigger' management team.

Thinking back to that era reminds me that Ranald also did an awful lot for the club, especially in the PR stakes..........
  2. ^^ Last two sentences of the above spot on imo.

Jim O'Brien has been good for us but I'm afraid if the rumours of indiscipline are true then I would back the manager totally (even if I don't think he's doing a great job atm), there's no place for that in a team environment.

I'm scratching my head with the Draper situation, thought he'd be a cracking player for us, no doubt one of the stronger CMs in the league. Is it that we're just not set up like the Caley team he did so well in.

I too am deeply concerned. Don't want to say "told you so" but I really didn't fancy the Coyle appointment. He came to us with no momentum and hardly a good (recent) track record, in saying that, offered the choice between him and Steve Clark at the time I would certainly have gone for Coyle, so what do I know!

What stands out for me is that a 'better' manager should be able to get a little more out of the existing pool of players than his 'unsuccessful' predecessor, that undoubtedly just has not happened. It may have been that Jim n Billy's time was up but I honestly believe we'd be a few points better off if they hadn't gone.

How did Woods do yesterday btw............?!

  3. I've never wanted to be a professional footballer more than the time I wanted to savagely end the career of Craig Bellamy.

Bellamy is a good shout, didn't he tell one of the Clyde team "you'll be cutting my grass in the Summer?!"

Anton Rogan sticks in my mind from way back.

Scott Brown has to be a stick on for this though!

(although had Joey Barton been allowed to stay much longer I'm sure his place would have been cemented near the top aswell)
  4. The idea that management didn't notice the swipe at Hearts and Partick Thistle (?) when he couldn't be arsed tracking back never really held true.
Flatters-to-decieve could have been coined for Martin Woods.

Thought it a bit odd those couple of games towards the end of the season where he 'seemed' to need to be subbed off a bit too easily. Dunno if he was trying to play through an injury or whether something else was going on.
  5. If O'Brien returns then Woods is ably replaced.

Like O'Brien a lot and hope we see him back next season but he's a different type of player to Woods?

I think Woods could be missed a lot more than some people think, unless we get a definite upgrade(of which neither Draper nor Vigurs are imo)

Burke could be a cracking player but do we owe him any loyalty? Hopefully there's some kind of agreement that he signs for us longer term if he gets fit.

Thought Franks was worth keeping as a squad player.
  6. The booming header off his own crossbar in the opening minutes of the first topflight Highland Derby will forever remain one of my favourite Ross County memories.

[emoji1] Wouldn't say it was one of my favourite memories as I sha* myself when it happened! Remember it well though. Remember him apologising to his team mates in the moments after saying he lost the ball in the floodlights.
  7. Gutted, what a player!

However, if anyone deserves a career move it's JI, and to be fair there was always a distinct chance this would happen. In reality probably (hopefully) a good piece of business by the club.

Best of luck to Jackson, glad I saw you in the county shirt and will be proud to be reminded of that when we see you go onto even bigger and better things.

  8. I'm not convinced it's all that disastrous to be honest. It's definitely a blow, don't get me wrong. But I always felt Quinn & Davis playing together wasn't the best, there was just no pace between them. Quinn is more than good enough to replace Davies at this level and we have to play someone with a bit more pace alongside him. I was pleasantly surprised with what I saw of McEveley at CB at both games in Hungary.

More importantly though, it frees up quite a lot of money to bring in a gamechanging winger...

^^ Pretty much this. Not seen McEveley yet (not since distant hazy memories of seeing him play for Scotland anyway) but not overly bothered if Davies wants to go, despite him being a decent player.
  9. Apologies if the wrong place to post but my brother and I are up for the Derby tomorrow. Just wanted to know good drinking hole(s) for before the game?

Are neutrals (ict seated) fans welcome etc?

Would be good to meet some folks before the game to see a derby. Iv not been to a derby since attending an old firm one when I was about 18 months old according to my dad.

    Any help is appreciated.

The Mallard is probably your best bet (on the right just before you cross the railway bridge near to the ground if you haven't been before). Up the street there's also the National and the Caledonian.

  10. Has Robertson had a niggling injury lately? Sure he had a broken hand at start of season, played through that and recovered, then got another injury that saw him miss some games. Wary he's not fully fit, hence out of favour at the moment?

Robertson just seems to have been 'quiet' lately. Mind he was subbed for no apparent injury reason in the (Dundee I think it was) game?

Watched him in the development game against ICT and while he played ok I just thought he was quiet, not as vocal and dominating as he was earlier in the season.

  11. I did hear a rumour last week that Aberdeen were looking to buy Davies, with Quinn potentially coming back. But it was from a very speculative source (on the Aberdeen side) and not one of my normal reliable County ones. I'm not convinced at all by that.

According to one of the Port Vale Directors we've definitely have had a scout down looking at someone so there might well be something in that rumour.

Can't see us letting Curran go and considering his current medical issues I can't see anyone gambling on him on right now either.

Quinn for Davies with a wee net cash gain for us? I'd probably take that.
