Updated rankings after the group stage

    1. Spain (9) - 3 wins and no goals conceded. They look ominous.
    2. Germany (7) - Poor performance in game 3 but they still won the group with a late equaliser.
    3. Portugal (6) - Lost to Georgia, but they had nothing to play for and one eye on the knockouts. They’ll come good again.
    4. Austria (6) - This team could go all the way to the final.
    5. Switzerland (5) - A real dark horse in the easier side of the draw.
    6. France (5) - Not convincing at all in the group stages.
    7. England (5) - Feels like the post mortem has already begun.
    8. Romania (4) - Another team that I think could continue to surprise in the knockouts.
    9. Netherlands (4) - Poor defeat to Austria but still have a chance to go to the semis.
    10. Italy (4) - Snuck through with a very late goal but it’s hard to see the defending champions going far.
    11. Belgium (4) - Golden generation is done. Cant see them troubling the French.
    12. Türkiye (6) - The phoniest 6 point team I’ve ever seen in one of these things.
    13. Georgia (4) - Historic moment for them and a massive f**k you to anyone who says the nations league C shouldn’t have a place in this tournament.
    14. Slovakia (4) - Pretty lucky to have gotten 4.
    15. Slovenia (3) - Valiantly snuck through with 3 draws. They won’t go much further but they’d have bitten your hand off for that outcome. Slovenian football is on the up.
    16. Denmark (3) - Nowhere near as good as last time.
    17. Ukraine (4) - RIP
    18. Hungary (3) - RIP
    19. Croatia (2) - RIP
    20. Serbia (2) - RIP
    21. Albania (1) - RIP
    22. Czechia (1) - RIP
    23. Poland (1) - RIP
    24. Scotland (1) - RIP

Scotland the worst team while other small nations punch above their weight.

    Thanks Steve Clarke...

One argument I was considering for Moyes over say McInnes is that he could potentially pull players dual nationality players that McInnes or maybe Clarke maybe couldn't. I'm not sure if that's a strong argument or not so feel free to poke holes in it.

Good point though it seems that some - like Gunn and Adams - needed a fair bit of pulling apparently to choose us. Would rather go for home-grown unless it's clear they really want to wear the jersey.

Haven't seen enough of Moyes as a manager to make an informed decision though. Good at Everton, pish at Man U and meh at West Ham. If he can organise and isn't scared to attack then maybe.

Someone who isn’t a complete shitebag and first thought is always to go after the opposition in every game.

Bielsa would be the dream but he’s at Uruguay with some cracking young talent to come through so will probably be there for a couple of campaigns.

Sampaoli would be a poorer version of Bielsa but at least has the same style.

Someone who can also overhaul the whole system and bring in a load of staff at every level would be Rangnick. Give him big money, even it means outside investment, a long term deal and tell him he’s in charge of everything. Him being the manager would be an added bonus on top of all of that.

Joachim Lowe another who is be asking if there would even be a chance he’d consider it.

We all know though it’s Moyes, McInnes or O’Neill.

    Merry Christmas.

McInnes out of that three for me. Or Benitez from the list above.

Moyes would be turgid, I fear plus can he work with, organise and motivate a bunch of mostly mediocre players with no cheque book to fall back upon?

Am interested in hearing the arugments for Moyes though.

You can be in a job but be on a poor wage.

Especially if you work for Anas's relatives allegedly

Yeah, most people on benefits are already in work apparently. Labour must know this. Just more Tory policies from these utter barstewards. Sarwar a millionaire too that exploited workers on pitiful wages in his company firm.

Shankland has never been a lazy poacher, certainly not since he arrived at Ayr.

That was my impression of him at Utd. Did nothing in one game but score 2 in the last 2 or 3 minutes. He didn't do much in Belgium either.

His record at Hearts though speaks volumes.

We can persist with Adams but don't expect to get many goals from him. 1 in 14, I believe, and that was against Gibraltar.

If McInnes is the answer, I have absolutely no idea what the question is.

    How about:

Can you think of a manager who can organise and motivate a group of ordinary players to punch above their weight?

FWIW, I'm not sure but he has to be in with a shout.

  7. Need a poll on this.

I think he's done his time. Several top end players have underperformed for the past few months - friendlies and Euros included. He's been loyal to repeat offenders who ship goals and passes. He takes too long to make subs.

He's done well but it has to end here.

Who now? Moyes? McInnes? Not sure, maybe the latter though.

There was a standing ovation in my boozer when Shankland came on which made me wonder 'Have any of you actually seen him play?'

I have - for Dun Utd, Hearts and Scotland. He's scored against the millionaires of Sevco and Celtic, in Europe and for Scotland. He's developed his game from being a lazy poacher to a captain at Hearts who gets back to defend, holds the ball, pulls defenders all over the place and motivates his teammates. And, he scores.

But aye, leave him on the bench...

Also unforgivabble how he let himself be bo ragged, twice, for one of the Germany goals. Looked totally out of his depth, along with a few other this tournament.

MacGregor was one of our great noshows in the tournament. Some were utter pony like Porteous and Ralston and some like Robertson and McGinn just didn't show. MacGregor was between shit and AWOL.

It was a basketball match by that time.

    Adams was feeding off scraps.

    Basketball for three games?

We keep a natural high-scoring striker, at all levels, on the bench for almost all of three games, and manage about 5 shots on target in 270 minutes. Sure, things are working tickety boo.
