  1. Wow.

Imagine being completely outfought in a vital relegation match by a team with absolutely nothing to play for who are a notorious shower of no-shows.

Imagine watching that first half and sticking the same 11 out after the break. “You’ve got 15 minutes to improve or your off..” aye cos the previous 45 minutes of shite weren’t enough Craig?!

Imagine keeping 3 centre backs on when you’re desperately chasing a match and you’re looking wide open to the counter anyway.

Imagine Matt Smith getting several international caps for a country that’s qualified for major tournaments.

We have to hope County lose every match.

That late goal might prove to matter if it comes down to GD so at least Stevie May appeared to give a f**k and kept at it.

It's 4-4-1-1 for sure, but with two left backs and nobody playing on the right of midfield, so on paper it's a 5-3-2

It's a shame Sprangler is injured as I'm not sure a proper 4 man midfield works with the other CMs, which is why I think Smith/Max and Gallacher go central a lot defensively.

    Agree!

Lose here and at County and we are only 3 points above them.

With County’s recent resurgence, pulling someone else back into it could be our biggest hope.

Hadn’t realised you play County next, which is about the best fixture possible should we win tomorrow, but in reality Hibs would need to lose every match and both County and Saints win 3 apiece…  You’re pretty safe I would say.

I wonder if he'll be tempted to start both Kimpioka and Sidibeh given the kamikaze defensive line Hibs deployed at Easter Road. Think it will be three at the back again.

It would be a big boost if Wright's available.

Might be worth a go as Hibs didn’t look comfortable against the pace and energy of Sidibeh last time round.

Though I haven’t been too impressed when Adama and Benj have played alongside each other so far, so think it’ll be Clark  with Benji kept as an ‘impact’ sub.

I know the manager describes it thus, as do the media and various Saints fans online, and I’ve sat and watched our last few matches trying to be convinced, but it 4-4-2 all day long for me!! Or 4-4-1-1 when Clark drops in.

  5. The last 4 pages of this thread make me sick. Some absolute no mark clubs have had incredible seasons by their own usual dugshite standards; st Mirren, Dundee and Kilmarnock, with lots still to play for.

You’d think they’d be talking about their near rivals in the table, and when they play etc, yet all fans of the three of them want to talk about is when/ where they play rangers and Celtic, and where they’ll get to win the league.

I guess what we all don't know is what Levein really thinks of the squad. Either he is genuine in what he says and really doesn't see what we see as in how poor it is or (and I think more likely), he CAN see what we all see, but is using his experience to know not to lay into them as he has no choice but to rely in what he has to keep us up.

It's not a stretch to think that the second (if it happens at all) that we become safe, he pretty much tells the majority of them they aren't being kept on and does actually sign 10-14 players. Keep in mind that unlike the last 2-3 seasons, we have a coach that has genuine contacts all over the place and you'd have to assume that between him and Gus MacPherson, they already have a list of signing targets for if we stay up and one for if we go down. The unknown is the owner, but you'd imagine discussions will have been had about what, if any, additional funds would be made available

Personally, I'd be looking at a change of ownership as an opportunity to bring in a younger more up and coming coach, but I do see that Levein simply cannot and will not tell the current crop how shit they actually are.

Do you think that’s the case? I’d be surprised if we’re that organised to be honest. I think it’ll likely be a case of get the season over with and then take it from there.

County’s win on Sunday not only puts us under pressure, but also means even if we do stay up, it’s likely to take to the last game of the season to confirm. Other teams can pretty much start their preparations for next season now, whereas we’re going to be 5-6 weeks behind. The play-off will hinder things even further should we end up there.

Possibly Levein, having never won anything as a player or coach, has the championship trophy firmly in his sights, but I’m not sure how interested in staying he’d be if we go down. I wonder if we might see Kirk as his own man, meaning we’ll basically have the Brechin City manager in charge.

To be fair after his 1st few appearances I think all Well fans would have agreed….

He still needs a good few chances to score a goal. And as often is the case he scores from the more difficult opportunities and misses the easier chances.

He’s had a brilliant season overall. Must be really satisfying for where he is now and where we are.

Especially with that suitcase full of money we had to pay off his contract with!

Multiple people saying they’d keep Carey shows me how far the standard has fallen. Possibly one of our better creative outlets this season, but still far below the standard required. Thanks but see you later.

    Yes you’re probably right.

Personally, I guess I’ve lost a lot of faith in the club to identify and attract good players, so sticking with one who's done okayish, compared to others, feels like a safer option than whatever we might sign as a replacement.

Probably pessimistically, I can’t see us going out and signing 10-14 better players than what we have, so getting 5-6 and keeping the better ones out of the current group feels more realistic where we are right now.

  9. Keep:

Mitov, Wright, Gordon, Phillips, Franczak, Sidibeh, Sinclair, Steven, Ferguson

    possibly on the right deal:

    Carey, Sprangler, Clark, McGowan

    release:

Keltjens, Robinson, Richards, Considine, Gallacher, Olufunwa, Maclelland, Smith, Smith, Crawford, MacPherson, Kucheriavyi, Kane, May, Kimpioka

Obviously not going to happen due to some still having contracts with us etc, this is just based purely on starting from scratch.

Would offer A LOT more than favourite child Kucheriavyi

In all seriousness in what’s likely to be a few tight matches coming up, Crawford coming on in the last 10 minutes when we need a goal might be worth a go.

In that situation he’s probably a bigger goal threat than either Connor or Matt Smith, or Kucheriavyi.

    When?

I seen this repeated a lot after the Dundee game and didn't have a clue what folk were on about either.

Our only real chance yesterday was a header and sclaff after a corner and a overhead kick from a poor cross. We didn't have a single other shot in the box over the 97 minutes.

We had a striker with 2 goals in 2 games and full of confidence and didn't create a single chance for him.

Aye, forgot that creating openings from shots from around the box don’t count these days.

Pretty sure we created one for Clark from the edge of the box that he volleyed over the bar. The Dundee game he had one rolled into his path from Sidibeh where he was clean through and rolled it wide.

Mention above of Max looking better yesterday and more positive - he had one good moment with a drive forward and shot early in the second half, but beyond that I thought he was anonymous.

First half yes he was as anonymous as most of our players. After HT he had that shot you mention then was involved in a few 1-2’s and passages of play and looked to be playing the ball forward far more than usual. We had the momentum at that point, made the sub then around that time it died and the match became more even.

Feels like three years of mediocrity are taking their toll on Saints fans here. It wasn’t a good performance by any means, but we had several decent opportunities and were playing a far better side in horrendous conditions which probably affected the level of entertainment on offer.  Basically, we’ve been far worse over the last few years. I’m not saying it should be accepted, but we just need to remember what the aim is here since Levein came in from where we were; stay up.  And that’s it.

We know we’re not a great side, and are low on confidence, but every defeat we get the same reaction as if it’s a huge shock.

That Kilmarnock squad has been gradually built up over a couple of seasons and enhanced by additions each window. Just about any one of Van Veen, Watkins, Vassell, Armstrong, Kennedy, Mackay-Steven, Stewart would probably be a stand out for us.  And let’s not mention options in defence.

We are a squad cobbled together by three different managers over the past year.

  13. Well done killie, comfortably the better team. What a strong squad they’ve built, even the bench has some ballers on it we’d kill for. Other than Mitov, I don’t think there’s a single St Johnstone player starts in that killie team.  For a team at a similar standing and we don’t have one single outfield player better than them just feels criminal.

We were poor first half and could have subbed anyone, but we seemed to be doing well in the first 15-20 after HT and were on top and subbed off Max, when for once I actually thought he looked positive and had started to make an impact since the break… unless he was injured? Though I hadn’t see any sign of it.

I know he’s getting played deeper than his best position, but I’m afraid Clark is another empty jersey since coming back from injury. Add him to Robinson, Gallacher, Smith and probably others in just turn up and run about a bit to look like you’re playing contributions.

    Really poor goals to lose.

Mitov pulling off a worldie 1v1 save then not paying attention when the corner smacks off the crossbar sums up the amateur shit show we are a lot of the time.

From our inability to play throw ins, to the opposition easily retaining possession at throw ins against us, to Smith’s inability to strike a dead ball yet still taking many of them…

I'd be surprised if Aberdeen and Hibs weren't very interested in Mitov this Summer, but I don't know if they could pay what we'd likely be asking.

In saying that I'm not sure what would be a good fee. I feel like trying to get near £1m+ for the full deal feels sensible. Specialist position, good age, been spectacular, full International. But that also sounds too much for someone out of contract in 12 months.

I love your optimism. We only got a bit over that for our biggest talent in a generation.  I think we’d sell him for £250k sadly.

Most heads gone moment of mt season, last time we were away to St J.

Red card foul in front of me. Out my seat fucking screaming. Ref doesn't give it. Goes to VAR. I'm going bush that he needs var. Gives the red. I spend the next few minutes losing the plot at the guy that he needed var to give it.

Cue my boy saying to me, "dad calm down - he sent him off!"

Caught myself at that moment and sat back down.

I'm sure we all have those moments but I honestly lost it for a second 🤣

You still doing you tube videos Gordon?

  16. Fucking Minsk. We knocked out Rosenborg which was a huge achievement, then went away to Minsk and won 1-0.

We didn’t play well against an absolute rabble of cheats, but in the end they went through after winning the penalty shootout.

That was the first time in the history of St Johnstone FC that we lost a home European tie. A record we’d proudly kept in tact against Hamburg, Monaco, Eskisehirspor, Rosenborg amongst others..  then lost it to fucking Minsk.
