  1. Scotland had to play the USA but Italy only have to play Tonga? Feels like they get an easier game.

'Only have to play Tonga'? As Christophe has said, Tonga are a very decent team when they actually want to play and can beat anyone in this tournament outside possibly the big 3 of Aus, NZ and Eng. They are packed full of NRL stars but as Polynesian players sadly are they lack a bit of discipline which is their one main problem and has so far shown this tournament. I personally think they have rocked up to their games so far and just expected to win instead of working hard and showing why they are the favoured team. Italy on the otherhand were expected to be minnows especially over in the UK population but down here we know that a decent number of NRL players are in the side (like 6 or possibly 7 off the top of my head) that they weren't going to be pushovers. The game could go either way as this tournament has suggested but I still expect Tonga to lift last minute and win to help the Scots. USA on the otherhand have performed way above their expectations but that's as far as it goes for them.

Regardless of how it pans out over the weekend, the Scotland squad should be proud of their efforts and performances. All 3 of their games have been fantastic entertainment.

I'm going to the final at Old Trafford but kind of wish I had spent the money on a trip or two to Workington instead.

The Scots should be very pleased of their performances and have shocked quite a few. I still think you will get your money's worth from the GF ticket than 2 pool games in Workington as you will see a much better level of Rugby League and far better players out on show and who knows it may even be a cracker of an end to end game.

  2. Premier Sports upping their coverage of the NHL this season is pissing me off. I bought Gamecenter Live to watch Leafs games and although they've not been on PS much yet that's set to change with the game at Vancouver tonight the first of 5 of their games on PS this month. Sadly PS at a tenner a month is far too expensive for me to consider on top of the much better value £65 for the season for GCL. Don't imagine I'll get to see much of the playoffs though since PS claims to be showing the majority of them.

It's alright pal, you wont have to worry about not seeing much of the playoffs as in Leafs fashion this season they will do good enough all the way up till the playoffs and then capitulate. Hope it's not the case but it is the Leafs we are talking about.

  3. Decent result by Scotland against Italy, well done to them, leaves it all up to the USA game now which by the results should be a cracker. It's good to see decent crowds at all the games so far.

  4. Great result by the scots this morning, probably will be the biggest upset of the tournament! Tonga were very disappointing and their defense was terrible, a very rusty start for them considering the way they played and blew away Samoa earlier this year. Hopefully Scotland can kick on from that and upset Italy too, if Wallace and Brough in the halves can step up and put the team into good field positions then they have every chance if they play like they did this morning.

For fuctifano, the team as far as I know has one or two actual scottish born players and the rest are english with scottish bloodline and there is a couple of Aussies linnett and the experienced halfback Wallace in the team too.

  5. I've decided to go down to this, felt like going to one of their ties and the new stadium at Salford seemed more appealling than Workington.

Brian Earle and Robbie Paul on the highlights last night seemed to think Scotland were a darkhorse of the minnows, but Italy do look strong.

I hope you enjoy it mate, I would love to be over there for it all at the moment but have to settle for watching all the games in the morning before heading to work. Will be hoping Scotland can pull of a major upset in the tournament but I really can't see it especially with this Tongan side probably the best they have ever assembled and full of NRL players and Italy are minnows but they have about 6 NRL players in their side with decent pedigree, the game your going to against the USA I think they can win though, lets hope they can pull of a major upset against the other two teams also!

The Scotland-Tonga RLWC game is on Premier Sports tomorrow night, which i seem to be getting for free on my basic Virgin package. Just noticed when i was channel hopping tonight, they currently have NZ-Samoa on followed by Ireland-Fiji. Channel 551

I was going to ask on here what channel are they broadcasting the world cup matches on over there, I assumed maybe Sky Sports would have picked it up. That NZ-Samoa game you mentioned was a belter by the way.

  6. Would like to see Anyone But Australia win it, not enough of an expert to know how Scotland are likely to get on but will be hoping for the best. Shame none of their games are on a television station that anybody has.

Hate to say it to you but we will be all out to win this world cup especially after what happened last time and with the squad we have we are the favourites to take it home. As for Scotland the only match they have that they have any real chance of getting something out of is the inter-group match against the USA as Tonga and Italy will be too strong since they have a decent number of NRL players in their sides.

  7. League World Cup kicks off on Saturday. NZ v Australia final, with Aus gaining revenge for the last time?

How will Scotland go against Italy, USA and Tonga?

Cant see past an Australia vs NZ final aswell.

As for Scotland I don't see them fairing well at all, Tonga should walk that group and Italy have a fairly decent side with quite a few NRL players in there like Minichiello, Guerra, Tedesco and Gower. USA will struggle in that group too.

  8. So the England players have apologised inappropriate behaviour, I bet they are as sorry as Lehmann is for calling Broad a cheat.

They have nothing to apologise for IMO, at the end of the day they pissed on a bit of grass.

Lehmann shouldn't feel sorry at all for his comments about Broad as I think they are 100% spot on. Broad will cop alot more when he steps foot in this fine land. For the record I couldn't care less if the poms pissed, shit or even set fire to the wicket after that last test in London.

was recently almost involved in a brawl in a T20 match plus all the other shit he has got up to over the years.

Can't say I'm the biggest fan of Warney as a person even though he is a fellow Victorian but to be fair to him he didn't really do much wrong in that incident, was all fair game.

  9. I don't know about THAT, but anyone that knows anything about the sport knows that England are a better side and they have just retained the Ashes, which proves it. Your dribbling on about ifs and ands is irrelevant. Test cricket never lies, and in the recently drawn test match there is absolute no way you can say with any certainty that England would have lost that. They have lost the top three for f**k all fairly regularly in this series so far after all and were still going in to that test with two wins under their belt.

    <_<

    suck it up

I'm not saying they aren't a better side but they aren't THAT much better than what the media and numpties like you over there would try and have you believe. I can say yes we would have won that last test if it wasn't for rain stopping play, there you go plain and simple and that's also very well respected people in cricket who share that view down here say that. Down here will be a different story come our summer, feel free to bring your bats with silicon on them too :P

Pissing it down at Chester apparently.

Typical, they can't hold any sporting event without rain ruining it.

  10. Yes, it is a pumping. The ashes were retained in 14 days of cricket. Australia lost the first two tests, the second by a fucking mile. And failed to keep the series alive by winning at Old Trafford, thus failing to win the ashes..

There were signs of hope in most of the tests for Australia of course. But the facts are there. The rain simply helped them to avoid a series whitewash, England were playing for the draw as soon as they lost the toss anyway. <_<

Maybe Australia will win a test in England this series? But I doubt it, they are shit.

 There really is no helping you is there, maybe take those rose tinted specs off first.

The poms were expected to run wild and annihilate us in every test yet struggled in the 1st, 2nd won easy and would have lost the 3rd if it wasn't for rain, yet you see that as a pumping, deary me  Yeah the poms are that good that they lose a toss and go out to just scrape a draw and pray for rain and your calling us shit. One deluded man, Anyway enjoy watching the rest of the ashes, that's if the rain holds off ;)

  11. Maybe if you had managed to win one of the previous two tests then you wouldnt be moaning about the weather in "Rainchester"

Bit pointless staging a test in a city that has rain basically every single day of the year isn't it. Poms got belted around in the 1st day and then just prayed on the rain coming, pointless and boring, feel sorry for the fans who shelved out their hard earned for a ticket for it.

  12. You seem oblivious to quite a lot regarding cricket.

Ashes retained in three tests. That's a pumping.

You seem quite oblivious to what I'm saying, I was talking about the test in rainchester but if you say retaining the ashes in three tests which one ended by rain is a pumping then clearly your deluded, that's no pumping. Poms struggled in the 1st test and rain saved them in the 3rd, hardly a pumping

  13. Good to see that you are taking your pumping so well.

Didn't realise a test that was called off for rain when the poms were well behind was regarded as a pumping. Good to see the anti-aussie chip on the shoulder is still going strong on P&B.

  14. Anyway, get it right fucking up you, you whingeing b*****d Aussies. Your team is shite.

Brits calling Aussies whingeing b*****ds, oh the irony!

If our team is shite then it doesn't say alot for the poms then, this same team the poms are frothing out the mouth over how great they think they are yet struggle against us, even go into the 2nd day of a test given up and hoping and praying the shit pommy weather turns up to save them, least down here your more likely to get sunburnt than get a rained off disappointing end to a test. Keep sticking to those silicon bats though :P;)

  15. Problem with Shield games in recent years is that there haven't really been too many weekend sessions as games have been withTues starts or Wed Nd how managed 4th day. Seems ACB might be considering 5 day games but first up it should be back to Thurs or Fri start. Also use of drop in wickets no help and sadly Adelaide Oval revamp means more of them.

That's a fair point. Also advertising for it is basically non-existant, but shield games have never been hugely popular pulling in big crowds for as long as I can remember.

  16. yeah I went to the Melbourne derby where Samuels threw his bat at Warne and there was about 45k in. In fairness I was going on weekdays when the shield was on and most people will have work etc

To be fair it's even like that for weekend sessions. It doesn't gather too much interest but will always at least make it onto the sports bulletin on the evening news (here in Melbourne for the Vic Bushrangers anyway) and get a little write-up in the newspapers.

  17. Watching the Sheffield shield in melbourne is like an antipodean version of watching queens park only in twice as big a ground, it is very cheap however. Heading back home for the third day at Durham, nailed on to rain.

 That is true. Except you will probably get a bigger crowd at a Queens Park game! We went to the G for one on a school excursion one day and there was hardly anyone there, but it's the same throughout Australia here for Sheffield Shield matches. The Ryobi One-Day Cup or whatever it is called now gets fairly decent crowds but the new Twenty20 cup got pretty big crowds to it here.
