Yes Welsh and Sheridan have pulled you out of the shit and now you sit at the top of the league, oh hold on, I got that very wrong another wee keek at the league shows you're one point ahead of us.

You're replying to an Airdrie fan.

To be clear though, we'd be several points behind you without Welsh and Sheridan's contributions since they joined.

Ok we've had a couple of poor results but hold on there--- the previous few games and in partcular against Ayr I thought we looked as good as any other team I've seen in the Championship this season.

Always half full...     Back on the rails this Saturday for sure..

Davidson has steadied the ship under incredibly difficult circumstances, and we'd absolutely have been relegated long before now had we stuck with the original plan, but I think to say we've been as good as any other side in the Championship is a bit of a stretch!

We couldn't create any chances against Morton at Hampden, capitalise on massive amounts of pressure away to to Airdrie, or hold a 2-0 lead against Thistle; the core of a really solid Championship squad is clearly there, but a lot of work still needs to be done if we stay if and have any plans of being more competitive next season.

Wish I shared your confidence ahead of the Inverness game though.

Had we achieved promotion last season we would have a different bunch of players now. Look what Dundee had to do.

Dundee didn't have Beuker making those decisions, to be fair. I still think we'd have gone into the Premiership with a bunch of kids, albeit they would have maybe been of a slightly higher calibre.

Even if we were struggling badly (which we've done for the majority of this season anyway) it'd have been a good laugh.

  4. Had a wee flick back through this thread and the less said about my own predictions the better. Still, it's always interesting to see how things compare when everything is almost said and done; I particularly enjoyed this post:

    You sure about that ?

Have you not been keeping up to speed with Arbroath's summer signings ?

I highly doubt they will be troubling the bottom of the league this season.

    Best revise your predictions.

I take absolutely no joy from Arbroath getting relegated (actually, I would if we went down too for selfish reasons), but hopefully nobody who likes a wee gamble took this person's advice.

But but but attendances are up!!

They are though. We've given away the same number of tickets this season for each home game as we did last year while at Ochilview (and we also stuck a bus on for them to get to Larbert), yet our average attendance has grown from 911 while challenging for the league to 1768, despite us having been mostly miserable to watch.

Plenty to criticise the club for, something I'm not shy about doing myself, but that isn't one of them. It's just a shame we weren't back in the southside for the 22/23 season which was obviously a lot more exciting, and would've no doubt done more to get people through the door.

  6. The B team's draw at Lochinch today confirms they're reserve league champions. Although winning those games is obviously less of a priority than player development (especially since we primarily fielded youth players in the competition), it'll be exciting to see how they all progress. There's a lot of exciting young talent at the club right now.

So, season tickets will be going on sale in a few weeks and you don’t know the location and where you’ll be sitting?

Seems a bit odd to me.

I don't think our season tickets went on sale until mid-June last year, I'd probably expect similar again.

This doesn't justify the weird limbo we find ourselves in, of course. Not knowing where we're going to be playing going into every season is a ridiculous scenario, and one way or another something more permanent needs to be arranged.

Regardless, I've heard through the grapevine that it'll be Hampden again. That's as good as you're going to get for now I'm afraid.

  8. Corbin Burnes pitched 6 innings with 11 strikeouts, a single hit (off Mike Trout), and no walks in his Orioles debut. Given he's a free agent after this season I could see him putting up ridiculous numbers for that big contract.

  9. I'd love to say this is our best opportunity of finally getting a win in this fixture but I've felt that way before; 2-0 up at half time last year at Ochilview, when Morton only had about 14 players because of the weather earlier this season, or when we had a man advantage and a got penalty at Cappielow but it never seems to click.

Absolutely no predictions from me, but a win for either side could have a fairly significant impact on the outcome of the rest of their season.

It's probably one of my favourite shows, just loved it.

Yeah a friend of mine has some family that stay around Baltimore who have said that while the impoverished areas are probably among some of the worst in the country, those areas are quite isolated away from the areas of the city that anyone else would chose to explore - I guess that's all part of a cycle of an area becoming further  impoverished. I have heard that Baltimore itself is a very nice city, may need to visit one day.

I think the show probably served as way to show a more overall picture of the struggles in inner city American cities, as opposed to it being solely a representative of 1 city that had been struggling.

Seasons 3/4 of The Wire are probably the best of the series, if you haven't seen that far in yet.

Aye there are some outrageously weathy suburbs, but even in the city itself you're fine as long as you don't do anything daft. The closer you are to the water the nicer it tends to be, generally speaking.

Great scran, some fantastic pubs, interesting museums and a lot of history, at least by American standards. I'll be there again later on this year.

I've never made it beyond the second series but it's probably about time I correct that, especially if you're saying it gets even better.

True. Made for great viewing on The Wire though.

Never been able to get into The Wire, but I'm tempted to give it another shot. I've spent some time in Baltimore though and it's a class city, some night out too. Never seen anything like what was depicted in the show, but I suppose I also wasn't slinging/buying heroin in the projects.

I doubt it will be common sense that will prevail but hopefully an appeal to the SPFL by Raith Rovers who get the dabs telt to release more tickets, similar to what happened in our decider vs QP when they tried it on. Utd are clearly bricking it.

It's a bit different. We wanted to move Dundee fans altogether to a smaller area of the ground, and use the terrace at Ochilview which is usually the away section for more home fans. United are outright restricting Raith's allocation in the same stand they gave them more tickets for before.

8th is fine, considering where we’ve come from. Keep doing what we’re doing and we’ll achieve that. If Davidson maintains his current points average, we finish on 54 points which will see us safe with games to spare. Even a slight drop off from that should still see us ok.

Inverness are sitting with one win in eight, still have to play all of the top three and come to Hampden. Ideally we’ll pick up a win over the next couple of games and nothing mad happens at their end, but cool heads are needed if things don’t go our way. My major worry is something happening to Wilson or Welsh. If we keep the squad fit, I’ll be as calm as it’s possible to be in the circumstances.

Totally agree that 8th is more than fine; I'd bite your hand off for that right now, but I don't fancy going into the last couple of games with things still up in the air. Despite the improvements we've made under Davidson we're still massively in danger thanks to our horrendous, self-inflicted, start to the season.

Our average points per game is 1.6 under the new manager, which would take us to 44 come the end of the season rather than 54. Probably just enough to avoid the relegation playoffs, but that average will also drop if we don't win down at Somerset on Saturday (and potentially more when it's followed up by 2 even tougher fixtures).

I think some people are underestimating how precarious a position we're still in, to be honest, and I'd rather we got the business done ourselves as soon as possible rather than rely on other teams continuing to struggle. I wish I shared your confidence!

Not putting too much onus on must win/must not lose.

I’m not in the camp of ‘must win’ yet.

I think it depends on what your objective is for the remainder of the season. If you want us to be in with a shot of avoiding 9th come the end of the season, then drawing or even losing this definitely would be fine since the league is so tight.

I'd much rather it didn't go right down to the wire though. In that case picking up 3 or 4 points from a potential 12 is definitely not ideal, especially with Morton and Dundee United coming up, despite the improved performances.

Dunfermline seem to have turned a corner, and you can't just assume that Inverness won't either. This is our best chance of winning a game until mid-April and I think we do need to be taking advantage of that.

  15. I think we need to win this. The objective can't be to draw our way to the finish line and hope that's enough. It's great that we're clearly tougher to beat now, but ultimately we threw away the win against Thistle, and took our foot right off the gas at Airdrie. Time to start getting things right at both ends of the park at the same time, rather than one or the other.

We don't survive that many corners under Veldman. Much more solid, and we will likely draw our way to safety.

Hoping the Josh Scott sub was just for fresh legs rather than injury. Was my MOTM alongside Wilson.

Wilson has to be the most significant signing of the January transfer window in the division. Having him has completely transformed the way we defend, by which I mean we're actually capable of doing so now. Delighted that he'll be here next season too.

  17. Said the same thing last time we played Raith, but they don't half chuck themselves to the ground easily. Dylan Easton is definitely one of the most dislikeable players in Scotland, and I wouldn't be disappointed to see his season end in tears again.

As far as 0-0s go it was a reasonably entertaining game. We were weakened significantly on the left hand side of the park by the changes in the second half, but that's just the squad that Davidson has inherited. We lacked any real cutting edge today in general but that doesn't concern me too much as we've been decent going forward lately.

Can't complain about the point, we've become much harder to beat which will hopefully be enough to avoid 9th place. I think Ayr away next week is almost a must win at this stage though.
