  1. There’s a player and goalscorer there somewhere. Started off last season very promising and looked like he would be able to handful the step up as the season went on. However, his minutes became less and less which at the time was odd considering how awful Johnny Kenny was as 2nd choice striker and ultimately, looking from the outside, it seemed to dent his initial buzz and confidence when he did get limited minutes towards the back end of the season It’s worth noting he came from Cambuslang Rangers which is a monumental jump to the championship and overall I don’t necessarily think he fared too badly at this level but at this stage of his career, championship might be one level too much. I think he’s got potential to be an excellent goal scorer in league 1 with regular minutes and was really hoping for him to get a loan move somewhere to prove himself If he does indeed go out on loan, we absolutely need a striker or even 2 in as we simply can’t rely on a single striker all season in Paton. One injury to Paton and we’re in massive trouble Only thing is, do you think he would get in ahead of megginson or Connell if he does join ?
  2. True but the way we played that last third of the season was beyond dire. He simply could not coach a defence and once we were found out, he had no plan B. All he did was rotate the left winger constantly. I’d genuinely be more concerned had he still been the manager cause I’ve never seen us lose goals in the manner we did, including the amateur era. That’s not to say I don’t have question marks over this season but I’d bet there’s certainly a lot more tactical analysis compared to last season. It will be an interesting season regardless
  3. I can understand that perspective watching from a neutral point of view. The games can indeed sometimes look quite dross in standard and not seeing your own team in the championship, you may tend to think Airdrie could easily do a job but until you actually watch your own team play in these matches, I think you’ll be in for a surprise the difference in standard between league 1 and championship Thats not to say Airdrie will stink out the championship, they may well do perfectly fine but I don’t think it’s mental for others to predict you for the drop. You’ve not added much to the team and the star signing seems to be a guy released from Dunfermline
  4. You could also use examples of teams who were guff in the cup last year who turned out to have a very decent league campaigns. Ayr probably being the main example. Pretty sure they weren’t too confident about their chances after some poor results and ended up finishing 2nd
  5. It’s not even solely the distribution factor that’s impressed me with McKenna, he’s also made some genuinely impressive saves. QOTS had a couple of great chances early doors and McKenna dealt with it very well. I’m a massive fan of Ferrie and I feel he does gets a right hard time off some of our support but his distribution is a weakness (it has significantly improved the last year) and I worry he’d get hung out to dry with this style of play Even from a financial perspective, McKenna comes in and does well for a season or two, chances are we’d make a fair whack of money considering he’s only 16 and massive. Don’t think I’ve been as confident about a 16 year deal playing in a first team environment since we had Anthony Ralston on loan years ago
  6. I think it’s because historically, the cup usually has zero resemblance on how the league pans. It’s a completely different level of intensity when playing for 3 points in the league In the past, we’ve competed and got results against premiership opposition in the cup only to get thumped by Cowdenbeath in the league a month or so later
  7. And so it begins again.. Despite a disappointing cup campaign, I’m still buzzing to get back into league business again. There’s always a notable increase on the intensity of league matches and I think (or I hope at least) that was the case over the last 4 games Hopefully Veldman and the players have learnt a few things regarding the style of play they’re trying to implement. We’re just needing to accept that errors will be apparent early doors and it will be incredibly frustrating at points. Hoping this works long term and we see the fruits of the process Assuming Fox is suspended, the lineup I would go for is Mckenna Longridge (hope someone is signed) Tizzard Bannon Bruce Spong Thomson Turner Healy Thomas Paton
  8. Is that fox out for Inverness or would it be for next seasons cup ?
  9. Even as a Queen’s Park fan, I have no utter clue how we’ll get on. We’ve looked easy one the eye but we look awfully soft from early impressions. Looking at all the other predictions, we certainly seem to be the most moved about team. Some putting us near the bottom, middle or the play off spots 1. Dundee United 2. Partick Thistle 3. Raith 4. Ayr 5. Queen’s Park 6. Morton 7. Dunfermline 8. Inverness 9. Arbroath 10. Airdrie
  10. Next couple signings will be crucial. Desperately need a right back and although I thought Longridge was decent today, it’s just not going to cut in the championship quite simply. Need another option up top. I wasn’t able to make the Elgin match but I’ve been really unconvinced with Paton’s link up play. Looks very sloppy on occasions and almost single handedly cost us a goal with a dire pass in the middle of the park which was fortunately ruled offside. Combined with the penalty miss, I think he forgot he wasn’t playing for QOTS today
  11. Just me that’s slightly apprehensive about the season ? Another unconvincing performance where we looked powderpuff and lightweight defensively A couple punts down the channel from QOTS and we’re all at sea. Bannon was unfortunate to slip which resulted in the Fox red card but he didn’t help himself with a difficult back pass to McKenna. Losing those goals are really painful to watch and I’m worried this may be a common trend Despite his error, I’m still all for McKenna starting at Inverness next week. Supreme confidence on the ball and made some great saves. With the style of play we’re trying to implement, whoever the keeper is may have to deal with a couple errors. Also Healy starts for me. Looked incredibly positive every time he’s been on the pitch and scored a cracking goal. Would have him over Hepburn who’s looked fairly lightweight so far
  12. I had to stop watching Coyle’s interviews towards the end of the season as I found it Infuriating how delusional he was at times. We could be comfortably beaten with 1 shot all game and Coyle would come out and say we should have scored 4 or 5. No wonder his interviews became a meme amongst opposition fans throughout the league
  13. I think it’s really important that Robson has genuine competition for the left back slot as I felt his game went a wee bit downhill once he got the captaincy last season, yet we had nobody to come in for him. I remember at firhill in the playoffs, we had to play marcel oakley at left back. Even the opening game against east fife, I thought Robson looked miles off it. Genuinely hasn’t surprised me at all that he’s been sub the last couple matches Bruce has been highly touted by rangers and Celtic and clubs down south prior to signing his professional contract at the start of last season. Pretty sure I even read an article that we had turned down a couple bids around that time. I want to see him up against QOTS to see how he copes before thinking of playing him against Inverness first day of the league campaign
  14. In terms of Williamson’s own development, I would say one of the worst things for him was actually us getting promoted to the championship. Considering the level he came from, he’d of probably been guaranteed more game time in league 1 and developed some confidence there He started off really well last season, particularly in a front 2 with Murray, however, once Murray left and our style of football became a case of hit it up the park at any opportunity, he looked a bit of a lost wee boy up top and really struggled with the physical side of things which is natural considering the level he came from. I think there’s definitely a really decent goal scorer in Williamson but at this stage in his career, the championship might be one league too high for now. Would love to see him loaned out in league 1 to see what he’s made of
  15. Interesting. No doubt even at 37 that McGeady will still be an asset at this level but the injuries are a genuine concern. Knee and hamstring injuries last season would set alarm bells off for any player, never mind someone who is 37. Murphy and McGeady a bit of a risk as your wingers? No doubt they’ve had excellent careers and will still contribute but we’ve seen this with a lot players, even like Chris Maguire last season for you guys that not playing much at the latter stages of your career and dropping down at a level, the lack of sharpness can still be very apparent Obviously if they are genuinely fit they may well be stars but that’s a massive if regards to maintaining it and not breaking down
  16. My least favourite loan of all time at QP. Heart of a mouse and very little ability. Seemed to have done semi okay at cove but giving him a 2 year deal is wild in my eyes, particularly for a side who have aspirations of the promotion play offs All Ready for Longstaff and Davidson to now tear us apart first day of the league campaign now
  17. Not convinced by that. Craig Slater as much as I liked him at QP was in the league 2 era and that was after being punted by thistle in the championship mid season. Decent pedigree but dogged by injuries. Will be interesting to see if his body can cope with the intensity of the championship. Ability not in question, simply i don’t trust his fitness Mcintosh for me was the best of a horrific bunch in that cove side. Can still nick a couple goals at this level but no chance would I trust him up top for 36 games. The rest are just complete unknowns at this level. Bird seems to be hyped up a fair amount from a trialist appearance. Granted he might be decent but so many times I’ve seen someone look great in friendlies to then look mince once the competitive stuff begins. Im prepared to be proven wrong as I have many times with Arbroath but I think this will be the toughest season to avoid the bottom 2
  18. Granted it’s a very small sample size with Mckenna, I genuinely would consider playing him as first choice keeper as I can’t remember a 16 year old look so ready for 1st team football. With the new style of play implemented, the keeper needs to be more than adequate with the ball at their feet and ultimately as much as I like Ferrie, his distribution with the ball is arguably the weakest part of his game. I’d worry a lot with him on the ball playing the way we are
  19. Can’t say I’ll look back at that game with much fondness. I’ve learned over the last couple years not to be too low or too high with these results as it tends to have no indication on how the league campaign pans out However, I can’t help but feel underwhelmed watching us on the stream today. Created so many chances but ultimately our decision making in the final third was pretty woeful. Added with some really basic errors with our passing I’m a big of Hepburn and today he showed he’s definitely got the ability, just needs to look up when the cross is there instead of the shot. Fox seemed to have the licence again to roam forward and looked his usual self. Tizzard looked good and essentially looks like another version of Fox. Cant say I was too enamoured by Spong. Looked a bit lightweight early doors and his passing seemed very hit or miss. Turner looked okay but should have definitely scored first half. Robson looked miles off it and wasn’t too surprised to see him hooked eventually. Looked like he was lacking fitness a fair bit. Paton was fairly anonymous for the most part One big positive was Callan McKenna. I was pleasantly surprised to see him in the lineup and his composure on the ball was brilliant again. Made an important stop 2nd half also. I’d like to see what he’s made against a side in Motherwell next week where he’ll face more shots. Only 16 years old which I just find mental Its a talented team but still needs some additions if we’re to make our mark in the championship this season
  20. If we haven’t got a right back signed for the next couple of games, we’ve seen that Bannon is perfectly adequate filling in that role. That means you could play tizzard and fox in the middle
  21. Based on what I seen against Livingston, I’m very excited to see him when the real stuff starts. Seems an incredibly confident player with some amount of pace. Him and Thomas as our wingers have the potential to be the most exciting attack in the league I’d imagine he’ll be targeted by the opposition players early doors, so it’ll be interesting to see how he responds to some “strong” tackles. As much as he’s coming from an elite club as Bayern, if you’re not up for the fight, you’ll be eaten alive, even at this level
  22. That really stings reading he might be joining you guys. Quite clearly far too good for the championship but just shows the fine margins of that last game between each other. Win that and we probably have Boateng back for next season He’s an outstanding player. The best young player I’ve seen at Queen’s Park since I’ve started going around 2004. An incredible amount of maturity and never ever loses the ball. If you ask majority of fans, Boateng was our player of the year by some margin All the best to him. He deserves a crack at the top flight, he’ll have no issues at all with it
  23. Am I missing something with Savoury being on a ridiculous wage here ? Im aware he was rated by Peterhead to some degree and I think Airdrie (who were league 1 at the time) and QOTS were interested but I really can’t imagine we pulled out an obscene wage to bring him in. The guys career prior to Peterhead was blighted with injury and didn’t play for anyone for over a year. Just because he had an excellent season this year doesn‘t mean his wage suddenly now blows out every team in the championship I don’t doubt that Paton and Thomas will be on a decent wage. If you want genuine quality, you need to pay a premium to entice these guys at this level (the 2k suggestion on Thomas is still wild btw). For me, the frustration are comments over the last 2 years which suggests our entire squad are on premiership type wages. I’ll accept Thomas and Paton will be getting a solid contract but you look at some of the core players who have been pivotal reasons in making so much progress on the pitch Calum Ferrie- Released from Dundee Charlie Fox- Released from Bromley Jack Thomson- Released from Rangers(included an unimpressive loan at Clyde) Tommy Robson- Laughing stock amongst many championship fans for his thistle and Falkirk spells Lee Kilday- Away now but was a player deemed to be past it when joining in league 2 and struggled massively in league 1 with injuries. Excellent championship season last season Jake Davidson- Released from Dundee United after a few unsuccessful loans. Played a massive role at right back and was part of 2 incredibly successful seasons Dom Thomas and Simon Murray will always be the two highlighted regarding the first team expenditure and again I’m never going to deny they’ll be on good contracts. However, there’s a reason after 3 full seasons of professionalism, there have been at most, the same 3-4 players named when making Gretna comparisons. That’s simply because when you see the names I listed above, majority of teams at this level would not have any sort of double take if they signed them. Sometimes, good coaching and scouting can take some credit maybe ?
  24. Can’t believe he’s only 16 tbh, an absolute unit. I’m assuming heraghty might be out the picture now unless he’s picked up an injury of some sort
