Shanley should be nowhere near a priority

Was just thinking of the players that have say a year left and in which order you'd re sign them. It might be the case he's only looking to extend contracts for one or two not all. Guess it will come down to money.

McGlynn making it clear his priority is to extend contracts above bringing anyone else in. Looks like the only chance anyone comes is if there is an injury crisis or someone exceptional that would improve the team.

Priority wise you'd assume Miller then Ross, Mackie and Shanley? Good to know there is a bit wiggle room to bring someone in if needed though.

  3. Dowds never really got a fair crack I felt with us, although when he did get game time he wasn't exactly prolific, still recall the miss v Partick right in front of goals when he hit the post when he should have burst the net. The loan move to Arbroath turned  his career around and you got the vibe he didn't really want to come back so it wasn't a surprise to see him move to Thistle, although he was never going to displace Graham. As for Muirhead he was never a full back but he did a job and never hid despite his limitations. You always felt he was a baw hair away from dropping a clanger or a red card but the boy could take a penalty.

Hamilton haven't lost a single game since the last time we played them. Will be a tricky game IMO.

Whilst they aren't a terrible side they aren't overly great either. Finished miles behind us last season and never laid a glove on us in the four meetings between the sides ( the 0-0 at TFS apart). Rankin did well to get them through the playoffs but Inverness were absolutely stinking and one of the worst sides I'd saw in a while. If they start losing a few on the bounce it'll be interesting to see how long it takes for the knives to be out again for Rankin who seems to be quite hated by a lot of the Accies support. They've one or two decent players though but I think Ayr will win comfortably.

Less than a 6 figure deficit at the moment which they hope to cover with stretch targets and also mentioned that any money from the cup run would go to that deficit first before topping up the playing budget.

They had hoped to budget for break even but as they had to guestimate the playing budget in October to give McGlynn and Smith the chance to extend player contracts this has caused the small deficit.

Let's just hope we beat Hearts at home then draw either of the old firm away.

McGlynn has done a brilliant job recruitment-wise as we all know,

The only two that didn't work for different reasons were Matthew Wright on loan the guy was just poor, and latterly Allan who didn't fit into the way we play. McGlynn seems the type not to take a punt on an unknown or trialist but rather signs guys who he's worked with before and/or knows. Pretty sound strategy especially when we don't have a massive amount of cash. But I'll echo the sentiments of others we could really do with a like for like back up for MacIver.

Yeah, I was thinking Graham. Every year I expect him to slow down but he never really does - is he 37/38 now?

    36. Coaches the Partick women's team aswell I believe. He's been consistently one of the best if not the best centre forward in the lower leagues for years. If it's a swap between him and MacIver I'd take Graham. He's just more clinical. Nothing against MacIver who does his bit for the team but he needs to be more ruthless with chances that come his way.

Also was involved in a one-two with Kelly, who played it through for Muirhead's goal.

BTW how refreshing was it to celebrate our goal, knowing we didn't have to then wait for 5 mins to see if VAR could find a reason for not giving it, like something that had happened 5 mins ago in the build up to us scoring. I know it's the cup group games and we wouldn't have had VAR anyway, but this is what the league is going to be like too, fucking loving this season already.

Might not have VAR but some of the officiating in the lower leagues is absolutely wild at times so while you might not have to wait 5 mins for VAR to make a decision you'll also be absolutely gobsmacked at some of the decisions the officials give. We had some absolute shockers of refs last season in league 1.
