  1. I finished this yesterday after only getting it on Monday and I'm now kicking myself I didn't get it earlier. Best game I've ever played and really enjoyed the story. Hope they bring out a 2nd one. 10/10

Agreed. Best game I've ever played. If you're able to download Left Behind, it is worth it even if only for the added bits to the story for Ellie.

I normally don't replay games, but I've started it again on Hard level.

  2. I was so sceptical about this when I first heard about it, but I should have known the Coen Bros. wouldn't have got involved it wasn't top notch.

Apparently, there is going to be a second series involving a different case. After all...

The suitcase is still buried in the snow which could precipitate a whole other bloodbath

  3. Caught a goodly portion of this on the telly during a sleepless night a few weeks ago. Quite an interesting watch, although the section on They Life was surely glaringly obvious to anyone that had ever seen it, and our philosopher host seemed like he was clutching at straws to support his theories on a few occasions. Still, looking forward to watching the rest when I'm more awake - it is pretty frazzling.

    Agreed!

I quite fancy giving it a proper watch and pay proper attention as it has stuck in my mind all weekend.

  4. Don Jon

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Scarlett Johansson are great together and the film spins rom-com expectations on their head.

On the one hand, I thought it was reaching for something a bit more profound but never really got there, on the other, it can be watched as a bit of a laugh.

    A Pervert's Guide to Ideology

    7 out of 10

It's a lesson in modern philosophy about the state, the individual, identity etc. through representations in movies through the years and I think it frazzled me brains.

  5. Inside Llewyn Davis

    8 out of 10

I had slight trepidations about this film as it has been described by some as 'cold' or 'distant' and this, combined with the theme of the film, suggested it was akin to the Coens' A Serious Man, which I struggled to watch all the way through.

This, though, is outstanding. All the actors are brilliant and there are some very funny bits throughout. John Goodman plays a character that still makes me laugh when I think about it a few days after watching, along with Garrett Hedlund too. It is funny, but there is a deep melancholy too.

  6. I thought that Bale was stunning in it, as was Harrelson. Harrelson's character was genuinely unlikeable to the point where he annoyed me, and a lot of that is down to Harrelson who seems to be at the peak of his powers at the minute.

I wasn't convinced by Harrelson, even though the character he played was intriguing, and I thought Bale was all over the place in his performance. I think a lot of that may have been to do with the script, right enough.

  7. I thought Casey Affleck was hilariously bad in it. Everyone else was exceptional though.

Casey was taking subway sandwich style bites of the background, no doubt.

I thought Christian Bale and Woody Harrelson were tripping over themselves, and Forest Whitaker seemed to be visiting from a different movie. Willem Defoe was suitably earnest.

But, I must say, Zoe Saldana

  8. Out of the Furnace - 6 out of 10

I think this could have been a very good film but the script and direction lets it down, and so it is just a good film.

The cast is brilliant with Christian Bale, Casey Affleck, Willem Defoe, Forest Whitaker, Woody Harrelson, and Zoe Saldana ( )

Despite the great cast, it veers towards being overwrought and the main leads do take turns to chew the scenery.

  9. Downfall

    9 out of 10

If I was being honest, the last thing I wanted to do when getting in from work last night was to sit down and watch a foreign language historical epic dealing with supremely difficult subject matter.

But, it is bloody brilliant. Tense, gripping, and genuinely had us sitting on the edge of our seats right through to the end.

It doesn't end well for the dude with the 'tache

  10. Paranormal Activity 5

    6 out of 10

I don't know why I keep watching rubbish horror films as they seem to disappoint more often than not, but there is something about this series that keeps me coming back for more.

There were some fun scenes in previous films and they were a good laugh, but this seems a little tired and the established trick aiming for scares and tension have something of a limited effect.

There is a nod to previous films which is good fun, but the laughs fall a little flat, even if the 'crash-bang-scares' are still there.

The found footage formula has become seriously staid a long time ago.

Next film to be sent in the post: Philomena
