It was a 433, with White coming a bit deeper to win high balls and link with midfield & attack.

Loturi (14) had a fantastic 1st half, credit where it's due, I'm usually quite critical of him but he seemed to thrive with the extra responsibility with Dhanda missing.

IMO Jenks was our worst player, continually letting midfield runners go past him, no surprises when Jenks was the first player hooked by Cowie.

Efete in particular was playing quite far up the pitch.

White actually looked pretty comfortable in that middle advanced midfield role, he uses his strength quite well, and has a lovely knack of turning without touching the ball and going with it. I'm generally not a massive JW fan, but he did well there.

  2. 1. It absolutely was right to get shot of Malky. His time was up, and we were going nowhere

    2. Derek actually seemed like a reasonable shout at the time, plenty of experience, knew the club, hope that some of the rough edges polished off

    3. First three games actually went OK, with a January window to rebuild.

    4. Lost the plot in post match interview and pretty much spiralled from there.

I really wanted this to work. It really hasn't.

That holding midfield is very thin on the ground. Is Callachan expected to return, I've never heard any word of it.

Loturi isn't good enough and needs to be higher up the field if on the field at all, as imo he's a liability as a deep midfielder.

I don't see Loturi contribution further up the field as particularly great either I'm afraid. I think we've got better options.

I like Dhanda and think hes too good to be dossing about a relegation battling side, but at the same time think hes over rated.

His lack of physicality/pace, and resultant lack of defensive work, will have him pigeon holed as a "luxury" player, who you need to build your midfield around.

Celtic/Rangers wouldn't even consider him. Aberdeen and Hearts already have 2 better suited players than him each (Clarkson/McGrath/McKay/Lowry) who play in the same spaces but offer more in every phase of play. Hibs are your main threat i guess but they 4-4-2 so where does he fit?

Youll have him until the Summer at least.

Lack of defensive work? Are you kidding? For a wee skillful guy, he's regularly tracking back and putting it about with guys twice his size.

Clearly not been watching him play.

Vigurs was on the left. It was a 4-1-4-1. Oikonomou could hold his own on from left back and Vigurs was given licence to come inside and link with Sproule to great effect.

Ah, right enough, that takes me back. To paraphrase the words of Maximus, "There was once a dream that was free flowing Ross County full width football . You could only whisper it. Anything more than a whisper and it would vanish... it was so fragile." Or something like that.

I think at this point it’s clear Samuel - for all his efforts - isn’t up to standard.  There’s also some quality missing in central midfield.

But Adams will do what he did last time.  Get the defence sorted and then get the creativity going.

He came on with ten minutes to go, I don't think that's really enough time to make a definitive call

    Yes, it does.

Either he's comparing racist & homophobic abuse to being rude to an elected official, a party leader at that, which is in fact very stupid, or he's only even mentioning it because he's got some bee in his bonnet with me for whatever reason. Which is his right but doesn't mean I have to treat his "concerns" with any seriousness.

I'd rather talk about the football though, believe it or not, so for the sake of avoiding these tedious derails I'll keep schtum about Douglas Ross from now on.

I am also all for a thread with more football and less Douglas Ross, so we're aligned there. Onwards to speculation over the glories or horrors that await us under the third Adams era.

Aye, I figured that was what you were getting at but didn't want to jump on you without clarification. But seeing as you've given it.

Holy shit that is either dumb as hell or else an utterly disingenuous attempt at a gotcha. Unsure which is sadder. No, racist/homophobic chat is not in fact the same thing as being mean to someone who's professional life is dedicated, intentionally or as a by-product, to making things worse for the poor, for minority groups, for the most vulnerable segments of society.

And lest we forget that Douglas has his own rich history of being an open bigot: https://tfn.scot/news/tory-msp-slammed-for-bigoted-gypsy-traveller-comments

Plenty of reasons to hate him. This is neither ironic or hypocritical but entirely consistent with my world view.

No fan of the Tories in general or Ross in particular, but this isn't about your personal view of him (reasons to hate him etc), it's about abuse.

You've said (and doubled down) on the legitimacy of abusing someone in a public place because you don't like their politics, but at the same time you've taken a moral stance on the basis of someone else's abuse of a different type. Does PtJs moderate highlighting of that discrepancy really merit that level of response (Dumb as hell/utterly disingenuous etc)?

Slew. It must have been the first transfer of the window in the UK.

I remember being at that game, in the away end at the dump, and all of us trying to work out who the new guy was. We won 2-1 in the end, and Slew looked a handful. Never quite clicked for him, although he had Curran-esque levels of effort, he never had a corresponding Boyce to take advantage.

I went on the BBC site to see if there were any rumours on the new boss only to see Adams and having to swear out loud. Well, I hope his time down south has taught him better man management skills than punching his players...

Starting to get the impression that MacGregor isn't a very good judge of character...Oh well, it's his toy, he can do what he wants with it I suppose.

Genuinely think he's a better shout than any of the other realistic prospects mentioned. Who would be better ?

Adams has been manager of Ross County twice and Morecambe twice. If he joins us again and is sacked I’d be very disappointed if he didn’t go back to Morecambe to make it 3&3.

Morecambe are nicknamed the Shrimps. Loving that.

There's a surf'n'turf joke in there somewhere, desperately trying to get out. I for one welcome the return of our Adams overlord.

I really doubt Mackay will join Hibs. It would divide their support for sure! However if he does, from a PURELY 'management only' point of view he would be a huge loss for County. I reckon he is a really decent manager, despite the texts etc. He has decent contacts within the game.

Promoting Don Cowie or whoever won't be the same. Derek Adams again? Who else? Whilst it may bring the fans back if Mackay goes, I'd worry County would stay in the league. Yet can understand fans happy that he left, but who replaces him?

I genuinely struggling. Is this a whoosh?

  13. Firstly, an apology - I turned to the guy next to me and said "I admit it, I've judged Loturi all wrong, he's actually decent" at which point he gave away the ball leading directly to the second goal, and generally made only negative contributions until being subbed. So, I'm sorry about that lads.

I actually thought Sims did OK given how deep he was playing, effectively a full back.

Leak showed a couple of wobbles which were a wee bit of a worry, esp compared to st J game.

Dhanda was class above again, for a wee guy, his effective tracking back and last ditch tackling, but tidily done without giving away fouls is an under appreciated element to his game. He's just excellent.

I'm sorry to go against the flow re Jordan white, I'm simply not seeing why he gets the full 90 week in, week out. His contributions Vs the others just don't square for me, and failing to get the one header on target summed that up.

Turner wasn't quite as neat/elegant/precise as I'd hoped when he came on, even with a wee bit of time on the ball, his passes weren't then level I'd expected from week before, although his driving forward was decent.

Previously I've been vexed by MM refusing to make subs until too late. Today he changed all sorts quite early, although I'd like to have seen Alex Samuel (and his wondrous posterior) get a bit of game time.

Just my own thoughts, and although it sounds negative, to be at this point having played both sides of OF, having 3pts and not horror goal difference is reasonable. Onwards.

  14. I was resigned to relegation, compensated by high hopes of MM moving on.

Now, while I'm obvs glad we're staying up, another turgid season of that under MM may seriously damage the affection I have for the club. Really hope he just slips away having kept us up, thanks very much, see you later. We can then start the rebuild thats been needed since the season we won the u21 league and did hee-haw with the players.

Ironically, with season tickets not being valid today, there might be some trying to become walk-ups when they find out that's not the case on arrival.

Are we trying to guard against a mass-infiltration of ticketless Partick fans? It's the only logical conclusion I can come up with, because it's surely not a sell-out, and you'd want to get as many County fans in as possible.

This. ST not applying here hasn't been widely announced, just buried as part of safety notice. Expect a fair few of non social media older fans to turn up and expect to get in.

Looking at the number of seats available on the County ticketing site, you might be in the majority.

Given a) season tickets don't apply, b) the game is on a Sunday, c) the result in Thursday, d) the a(nti)pathy re the club in general and MM in particular, there's a very real risk that home crowd will be less than away.

I just want it to be over, Malky gone, and press the restart button, I'd rather a Malky-less Championship than starting next season with him still in charge in top league.

Very worst case is the drop + him still here.

Absolute worst worst case is Caley also win the cup, same weekend we are relegated, and MM stays. Nightmare territory.
