There's 7 players on that plane who should feel pretty lucky that a dearth of talent in their position or injury has given them a golden ticket.

I really hope we aren't forced or choose to use McTominay in a defensive role.

I'd have this as our strongest team, McGregor's form for Celtic hasn't matched previous seasons and I'd opted for Adams because he's more athletic and runs more than Shankland, which will be needed. I mean you could play McTominay as a LWB and put Gilmour in midfield but it makes it pretty diminutive and powder puff, plus I'd rather McTominay was that extra 15 yards up the pitch.

    Gunn

    Offfttttt - Porteous - Hendry - Tierney - Robertson

    McTominay - McGregor - McGinn

    Christie

    Adams

Would be very surprised if Gilmour is not in the side against Germany. He was MoM against England in a similar fixture at the last Euro’s and has toughened up having had far more EPL game time this season. That is a very attacking 5 that will get exposed defensively.

On Shankland, I don't actually think it's terribly close between him and Adams. From the start I can't really think of a time id take him over Adams. He just doesn't do enough without the ball, either when we have possession or don't. Adams runs relentlessly trying to move defenders all over the place even when the ball isn't coming his way.

Shankland has a place in this squad. If we are behind against Switzerland or Hungary and they are camped, I want Shankland to be the guy sniffing about the 18 yard box. I expect hel be trusted off the bench if we need a goal, but from the start it's Adams for me.

Do we think Adams is fit to start next week? Seems strange he hasn't featured more in the two matches.

  3. Such a class act. A Hearts and Scotland legend.:

craig_gordon1 15m • When I was in the initial stages of my recovery I set myself four goals. The first was to be out of pain. The seriousness of the break made for complications and further procedures. I went through a lot of pain and wanted to be able to live life without it. Idid that. The second thing I wanted to achieve was to be back on my feet and able to run around the garden and play football with my children. We've done that. Many, many times and they won't let me stop now. The third goal I had was to play for Hearts again. This meant a lot to me. I did that competitively in January, having played my first friendly in November, 10 months after I broke my leg. It was a long wait, but I was ready to play the rest of the season.

The last thing I hoped to do was to make the Scotland squad again. And to put myself in a position to be at the Euros. Coming into the provisional squad I knew I hadn't got the games I needed so I trained harder, I trained well and felt, and still feel, very good. I am of course, so disappointed not to be there. Playing again for Scotland last night meant I did what I set out to do. And while it wasn't in the way I wanted, I could never turn down the opportunity to play at Hampden again. Something I have had the honour of doing for over 20 years. The circumstances were tough, it was an extremely emotional night for my family and I. But I'm grateful I got that opportunity. To become the oldest player to play for Scotland, it's a special record.

Given how long I've been doing this, I've experienced so much and I, probably more than others, know all too well, that things don't always go your way. Decisions go against you. Last night, of all nights, I wished they didn't but if a nervous 21 year old could have seen that so many years on, through some big challenges, I'd be there at 41 years old, I think I'd be very happy with that. I should have been given a smaller shirt on my debut (!), but I knew that if I played for the badge on the front, people would remember the name on the back. I hope I've done that, and will continue to do so for as long as I feel good enough. 75 caps. Thank you.

  4. I think Hanley’s selection is sognifact. Clarke rates him highly and virtually always selects him when available. He likes his presence, leadership and experience and I think he’s nailed on to start next week if he comes through this positively.

Huge match for Ralston to get game time and confidence. Surprised at Shankland starting, thought Adams would play at least an hour. Be interesting to see what happens if Shanks gets on score sheet tonight. Maybe Adams isn’t quite ready yet.

The question right now for me is, assuming McSauce is fit, who is being left out from Christie, McGregor or Gilmour.

Having missed out again yesterday for the Hungary game, one of our group is going to splash out on the re-sellers sites.

Any recommendations or opposite for sites like Livefootballtickets, Viagogo, Stubhub etc for the Euros? Anyone used them so far and got what they wanted delivered?

Good timing to report some positive news. Our match tickets for the Germany game (bought through Live Football Tickets) arrived in the app this morning - I received an email notification and they were there in exactly the same manner as when UEFA sent our Hungary ones. Still waiting for Swiss tickets and additional Hungary but so far LFT have been spot on as has been my previous experience with them.

    1998 Leighton?  Not for me

Yep. Wasn't at the peak of his powers but he's a Scotland great and Gunn still has it all to prove. As I said we wouldn't even have been at the 98 WC if it hadn't been for Leighton in qualifying. Right now Gunn is a mile behind Leighton, Goram and Gordon.

    Fair enough.

    It's a big call, though.

Collins was beloved at Monaco and Lambert has a European Cup winner's medal in one pocket and Zidane in the other.

The Euro 96 midfield of McCall, McAllister and Collins is also better than our current midfield.

    But it's all about opinions.

Completely agree. If the current midfield plays anywhere near as well as that one did in the games v Holland, England and Switzerland in 96 and Brazil and Norway in 98 then we'll likely qualify out of the group. We were very unlucky not to take more points in 3 of those matches (England, Brazil and Norway).

Colin Hendry, Calderwood, Collins, Gallagher, Lambert would be the only players I would select from the 98 team that would likely start in our 11 now.

Leighton would definitely start ahead of Gunn.

Its one thing scoring for Hearts. International level is a different ballgame. You'd be dishing it out if it wasnt a Hearts striker so you have to accept the criticism. Fair's fair.

Aye clearly today signals the end of his minutes for Scotland. When he scores in Germany I’m sure you’ll sit on your hands 🤣
