  1. The referee Munro was the count who did not stop the game when Dundee striker Mellon was knocked unconscious against St Johnstone 2 weeks ago-elbowed in the back of the head, dropped like a sone, club doctor ran onto pitch while Munro waved play on.Treated on pitch with oxygen.

The ineptitude in the SCottosh referees is incredible.

At least he did not give the doctor a yellow card for running onto the pitch.

So many similar names in the Dee line up that must have caused some confusion when the manager was reading out the team sheet or giving the riot act at half time.

Surnames Two Wilson’s, Two McLeans, One Stewart & one Stuart

    First names: 2 x Alex, 2 x Bobby & 2 x George

Must have been a great final to watch.

    Video footage below.

Shame Dundee never triumphed but you were up against legends of Europe! Thank you.

That Dundee team contained 2 Northern Ireland Internationals, Sammy Wilson and Billy Campbell.

A good question is who were the last 2 Dundee players to play against England at Wembley.

United had a strong line up for that match, and a young Jimmy Page (not that one) came on to replace Reilly in the second half.

His starting debut, a few months later in April 1984, lasted around 30 seconds, Tommy Boyd breaking his Page's leg with a wild challenge. A talented winger, Page never recovered from that incident, and after sporadic appearances over the next 3 years, he retired from the game aged 22.

You'll see his injury here, early in the match:

Talking of career ending injuries have a look at this one from Daryl MacKinnon-how he was allowed to play football I will never know.

Both feet off the ground lunging in.

The referee decided it was not even a foul never mind a penalty.

    Henvey hardly played again.

They drew a cup game at Dens 1-1 with Rangers at Dens in the 62/63 season.

The replay on the Wednesday night was officially given as 82,000 however they closed the gates at the Copland Road end but left them open at the other end and thousands got in that end- jumping turnstiles, slipping gate checkers a few bob.

Rangers won that replay  3-2 after being 2-1 down with 15 minutes left with Ralph Brand getting a late penalty and notching the winner.

My dad said that was the worst crushing he had ever been in.

He said they cut the capacity at evening games after that.

Not sure-Dundee never won down there in those days.

If someone could dig through the records might find it - probably mid 70,s when I think about it.

The 6-0 game was on 26th October 1977 ,a Legue Cup.

This was home and away tie-Queens had drawn 0-0 at Dens the week before.

Queens then lost to Forfar over 2 legs in the quarter final.

Previous years the League Cup was played in 9 sections of 4 teams but it seems to have changed to 2 legged games in this year.

Gordon Strachan was in the Dundee team- but I can’t find the Queens team to see if gobber Ball was playing..But it probably was this game where his gobbing  made such an impression on me.

In hindsight, like Celtic scoring in the first minute away to PSG, we only annoyed Brazil here and paid the price in the end..

    Incredible story about that day.

4 of us were staying in Fuengirola and frequenting a pub owned by Bert Slater , Falkirk,Liverpool and the n Dundee goal keeper who had a great game in the 1964 cup final ,Rangers eventually winning with 2 very late goals-my dad had already said to me that we would be back on the Wednesday night for a replay.131,000 at that cup final.

Anyway Bert got us tickets and we hired a car and drove up to Seville and got to the ground early - but it was very quiet.

We had gone to the wrong ground in Seville-Seville’s ground not Real Beth’s where the game was to be played.

Back into the car and round Seville.

Best ever day at the football-no beer left anywhere near the ground about 2 hours before kick off-had to get a taxi to another area and bring back a carry out.

Game kicked off about 8.30 I think and it was still over 80 degrees-we were dripping on the terracing, never mind playing in it.

Sticks in my memory how good Brazil were.

Illustrating what varied diet football involved back then other games that night included England v British Army, Irish League v League of Ireland, Oxford University v Royal Navy, Stockport County v RAF and Everton v Liverpool in 2nd leg of Liverpool Floodlight Cup Final, while the night before witnessed Chelsea v South Africa in a tour match to be followed by Aston Villa v GAIS Gothenburg and Leicester v Borussia Dortmund.

As a Dundee supporter I remember a Wednesday night cup tie at Palmerston in the 70s/80s.

Alan Ball was the Queens goalkeeper-Queens were defending the open terracing and the ball went out for a goal kick.

That terracing was full of Dundee fans giving Ball a bit of verbals- he bent down to pick up the ball and gobbed a huge greener into the face of a Dundee supporter at the front of the terracing.

The good old days of Scottish football.

  8. Ineligible players are no problem for the SPFL-Dundee were previously relegated on the last day at Livingston in a shoot out to see who stayed up.

Livingston were found to have played an ineligible player -did they lose the points-no-£15,000 fine.

SPFL do not have the balls to do anything that is morally correct.

Any other sport play an ineligible player you lose the points.
