The best reference point i can think of is football manager If you google him on fm13 he was listed as acceleration 12 pace 13. Out of 20 if you've not played the game. So not rapid but not slow either. I've seen him play plenty and wager he could still out sprint you. Which is the yardstick I like to judge players speed on.

It's true that he's looked out of sorts for us in a few caps over the last two years. I don't think the answer is leaving him out though. Totally agree that Gilmour does seem to fit the Scotland side more naturally. Could we find a midfield shape that utilises McT, Gilly Bilmour and McGregor? Hard to see it to be honest without leaving the front two a bit isolated. You would leave out McGinn? Always gonna provoke an amazed reaction from somebody. We have 3 excellent midfielders for 3 spots. Personally I'd leave out McGregor, despite him playing so well recently. I'd have mctominay holding, excellent against Tottenham recently in the role, gilmour link guy, mcginn pushing on. You could make an argument for any of the 3 really. As long as gilmour is in every selection.

Hopefully Lampard gets the job! Build the team around gilmour like it should always have been.

There's a reason that while in his absolute prime he went on a free transfer to motherwell. Its because he's as poor as many make out.

To be fair if you gave most players 23 caps for Scotland and just kept playing them no matter how badly they performed. Most would manage a couple of assists in this time. Considering some of the terrible teams we play. It wouldn’t make them good enough international players for Scotland.

The criticism is very very simple, I'm not sure whats not to understand. The guy is bad at playing football. Hes ok in a purely defensive aspect, but he's not some kind of old school stopper at centre back. He's a right back, and a wing back. There's more to the game than being good defensively. He has to contribute in an attacking sense for the team. Which he doesn't, moves die when o'donnell gets the ball. He invites teams onto us by not being able to progress the ball. Having someone slightly poorer in a defensive sense but is capable of playing football is a massive upgrade. We have quite a few now, there's no need at all for o'donnell to still be there. Other than being a favourite of the manager.

From what I've seen of him this year he's been pretty good overall. Considering he's came from nowhere really he's doing well, perhaps he can kick on with regular games and get better. Never a first choice right back for me, but a decent backup. Miles ahead of o'donnell. Playing already at a level he couldn't.
