  1. I was 13 when Paquito signed for the Rovers, so was old enough (just) to realise just how fucking good he was - and how ridiculous it was to see him play at that level.  Some of the jobbers he was against in the 3rd tier was ridiculous, as was the way he literally glided past them.  My favourite ever Rovers player, absolute class - and seems like a really lovely guy.

I'm really interested to see how we get on against Kilmarnock.  Our away form was hideous last season, taking 2 points from 36 from the teams who finished above us.  That is the main thing that needs to be addressed in the season ahead, so ideally I'd like to see us score some goals in a game without having 4 thousand chances - snatching some points would be just braw.  That will come from being vaguely competent in either box.  I'd also like to see us score a shit goal, a scramble in the box or similar.

I'm really happy with the signings we've made, my main concern is keeping players fit.  Can't help but feel we need another option up top, and a holding midfielder.  I've bored myself saying it, but there is a huge amount of pressure on the signing of Hamilton IMO.  If he is injured or suspended, I just can't see that quality in the opposition box.  Someone last season said that we have all the striking instinct of a Tory cabinet, and that's all I could think of watching the game last midweek.  A genuine presence in the opposition box is what we need to go to Ayr, Morton, Partick et al and get a result (even a draw, as we took zero points from those grounds last season)

It's also difficult to see how Murray keeps the deluge of attacking players when everyone is fit (lol) - I still wouldn't be surprised to see at least one player leave the club, even if its on loan. (I'm assuming Arnott, Mitchell and Masson will be out on loan again also).  Whilst they aren't the same type of player - Gullan, Vaughan, Smith, Easton, Mullin, Ross, Connolly aren't going to be asked to do drastically different jobs - and I doubt any of these players signed to be on the bench.  I do appreciate the depth, especially after how last season ended, but it's difficult to see everyone being happy - especially given the manager has stated he's looking for potentially 3 more bodies.

I do have a feeling we will be okay this season however.  There is a real amount of expectation on the manager of the club and at the end of the day, if we aren't at least a decent £20 bet to finish top 4 at the end of October, then I can see the new regime having their first big decision to make.  I doubt all of the kings horses and all of the kings men have been brought in to finish 7th again, and whilst this is far from a win or bust season - I don't think Murray has a huge amount of time to get things ticking along.  Which is absolutely fine by me, its a big season ahead.  And if worst comes to worst, I think the club is a relatively attractive proposition for another manager to come into.

Don’t think Mullin beat a full back once last season but that’s not what he’s about. He’s wanting to receive the ball on the touch line and be able to cross the ball from where he gets it. He’s also quite useful in the box. He’s most definitely a winger though and a top end Championship one at that. You need to play a certain way to get the best out of him but once you do he’s brilliant.

Aye, we probably aren't getting the best out of him at a time when there are no centre forwards for him to aim at tbh.

Do you really think that was a good performance. Did anyone get pass marks. Yes we won 2 nil against a team put together on the last 24 hours with kids. Yes we are missing players but that was very poor.

I thought we laboured a bit and made harder work of it than we should have, but still absolutely dominated almost the entire match tbh.

  4. Thought the Raith TV commentary was very kind to Albion Rovers, that was still about as one sided a match as you could expect to see.

That said, the obvious issues remain obvious - whilst the Albion Rovers goalie had a great game and all that, we just didn't feel anywhere near threatening enough.

Said it a million times already, but our season looks like its almost completely dependant on Hamilton being consistently fit and available - as well as finding the form he has shown in this league previously.  The attacking players on the pitch tonight will not score enough goals for us to be successful in this league.  We needed an abundance of possession and opportunities to score 2 goals tonight, which could almost be a direct copy and paste for a number of post match assessments last season.

Still, its a positive day.  The signing of Murray means that we can say the squad is starting to move forward a bit from last season - I'd be surprised if anyone thinks we haven't obviously improved the back line.

Anybody own a Harley Benton? I know they are like the Mayfair or Lambert and Butler of the guitar world but for £266 with electrics, case and delivery I thought I'd give one a shot. Bought the 12 string tabacco burst based on the Gibson SJ 200 called the CLJ 412e 3SB it's a fine looking piece of wood so if plays shit it will sit in the corner looking pretty. My current go to guitars.

I've owned a few of them.  They are cracking guitars out of the box, and would rival some of the Epiphones I've had.

Issue I've had with them has been a few months/year down the line.  I felt they didn't stand up great to constant travel, recording, gigging etc.  Needed a few set ups and tweaks, plates and wires coming loose etc.  Also felt the tuners weren't great.  I ended up spending the money I would have saved vs Epiphone on the above.

That was just my experience, I don't think you can really go wrong for the price though.  Sound wise they hold up really, really well - the pickups were awesome.

Corr made two mistakes on Saturday at the Pars goal.

    1.  He stood in front of Dabrowski blocking his sight of the shot.

    2.  He then allowed that shot to go through his legs.

He could in fact be blamed for that goal?

Still he is young, still learning, and most definitely on a Honeymoon period with most on here.

Thats a bit harsh, Mcgill was out of position and Watson got absolutely rinsed - I'd blame them for that goal before even looking at Corr.  Even then, it was very good play from the Dunfermline lad.

  7. If Euan Murray ends up playing Premiership football then its a perfect example of how scarce centre backs are.  He's a solid Championship player, who I would like to see in our squad, but not a Premiership player by a million years.

To be honest, from what I've seen of Corr so far I think we've bought ourselves a wee bit of time to get the right signing in.  He's raw, and wont be our 1st choice, but I've seen enough to suggest he can do a job for now - he's been absolutely fine whenever he has played.

    You sure about that ?

Have you not been keeping up to speed with Arbroath's summer signings ?

I highly doubt they will be troubling the bottom of the league this season.

    Best revise your predictions.

I'm sure Arbroath have recruited better than last season, but I wouldn't say any of those signings would intimate that there will be 3/4 teams below them, which is what I would class as not troubling the bottom of the league this season.  Not a slight on Arbroath, but there wont be a bottom 2/3 as bad as last season.  If you can name 3 sides who look considerably poorer than Arbroath at this stage, fair enough - otherwise you can't really say with any certainty if Arbroath will be down there or not.

As for Rovers, I think the strength of our business has been overstated a wee bit.  When I got back to the car after the game on Sat, the Radio Scotland commentary team were discussing Rovers and Dunfermline as title challengers, can't see that at all at this stage.  Whilst Hamilton is a quality singing, I don't think any of our other business has obviously improved areas of the pitch we needed to yet.  Mullin/Smith I'm sure will add quality, but its an area of the park where we have an abundance of it already - and I'm still concerned about scoring enough goals if Hamilton ends up out with injury, which he already has.  I think we are a centre half and another decent striker away from being a good shout for top 4 - and thats assuming one of Matthews or Brown end up starting soon.  Otherwise it could be another season of a lot of creative players, with nobody at either end of the park to make it worth its while.

I would take him back for the fact he’s a leader and played and won at this level…. but I would never for forgive or forget the way he left previously but that’s just me though

What happened?  I couldn't really give a shit that he went to Dunfermline,  it was a step up from playing another season in league 1 tbh.

  10. The club should be applauded for the effort,  but having a signing section that far away won't help the overall atmosphere.  Similar to years ago when folk moved from the back to the front of the South Stand, then wondered why nobody else joined in the singing.

Ideally there would have been a section of the South Stand for them, but that would involve putting out existing season ticket holders.

That said, continue throwing smoke bombs on the artifical surface and it will be a moot point.  Really daft stuff.

  11. Thought we were generally alright today.  A large part of it will come down to the impact of Hamilton.  Most of today was very reminiscent of last season, some nice football and lots of similar players on the pitch, but enough concern at either end of the pitch to suggest we will drop points.  I'm not sure where Mullin/Smith fit into things when we have Hamilton, Brown/Matthews and Connolly on the go.  Early doors it looks like they are here to offer a bit of depth.

Thought the defence were fine really, certainly not as bad as predicted by some, but there's still work to be done.  We will come up against far, far better than Wighton this season.  However they looked alright.

Ultimately we didn't learn much we didn't know.  I guess it shows that a starting 11 4/5 players short were still able to compete well, which is encouraging.

An entertaining match. Not much between the sides.

Not sure about Otoo in midfield at this level. And we seemed to have 21/22 spec Chalmers rather than 22/23 spec. McCann definitely motm.

Raith seem to have signed a load of good attacking players but I'm really not sure about that defence, and Dabrowski didn't do anything to change my poor opinion of him after seeing him for QotS. Will be putting money on both teams to score every Airdrie v Raith game over the season - printing money.

I would expect that back line to be different when we play in August.

Thought it was a decent game to be honest.  Neither side are complete yet, as solid as Dunfermline were they look even worse in the final third than us - Wighton is a bit shit.

Felt Rovers played some lovely stuff at times, but ultimately not a huge amount to show for it.  Draw was about right, although some good saves from the Pars goalie in that 2nd half.
