  1. Found this today, the perils of changing owners ,and selling and leasing back stadium from the council.

Not saying this will happen BUT, read all the articles about it.

    http://www.herefordtimes.com/news/11657806.Herefordshire_Council_says_United_s_ban_from_football_does_not_trigger_termination_of_ground_leases/?ref=mr

Was this asked at the meeting about the possibility of the council owning the new stadium.

    It doesn't make good reading

  2. I've watched this from afar and anyone who has watched most teams in Scottish football know that subterfuge and alleged corruption are wide spread.

Why is Dumbarton FC any different.

The PR at the Rock is disgusting ,and I would take the likes of Iain McFarlane back in a minute.

I was off sick on and off for over 2 years during his tenure, and my daily exercise was a walk down to the rock.

His door was always open and the kettle was on every morning

We had some ding dong arguments but the next day it was forgotten, and the coffee was on.

OK he had his faults but you could ask him questions and he would answer.

Since Brabco came, it has become very obvious that the board now see fans as an essential nuisance.

It was me who put sparse info on about the company ,I went as far as I could and ended up at a PO box number in Panama.

We're it not for the fact Alan Findlay and Simon Barrow are on their case, you would not even be getting a meeting tomorrow

I have no problem with any investor making a killing as long as the club is not deserted without a place to play.

Remember in the recent past the travels of Clyde, Hamilton and Clydebank I don't want to see one of the oldest football clubs in UK go to the wall

As an aside if anyone is talking to Mr Hosie, not Colin, ask him what team he supports and did from his days in 1st Dumbarton BB

  3. Try as hard as possible ,through every option to stay where we are Wilf ,the fans have been played like a fiddle here.

I feel for Gilbert ,I know he is a Sons fan through and through.

He has been left holding the baby when the still unknown men of Brabco hide in the background.

They creep around with an less than honest council making plans to close every door.

I need to see a business plan and planning application BEFORE it goes to the council ,so the Trust can work with the club to get the best possible deal.

My biggest fear is we end up like Clyde, Hamilton and Clydebank.nomads wondering aimlessly for years.

    Too many unknowns Wilf

A lot of questions need to be answered, not least how the funding will work ,and who at the end up will own the club.

Also will it be a case of Brabco give DFC Money and the council build the stadium and rent it back.

Who's paying for the initial price of the land

As I said too many questions ,not enough answers

  4. Initial funding isnt necessarily the big concern for me. It would be pretty simple for us to sell the current ground for £X, buy the new ground for £Y and then use the remaining money to fund the construction of the ground. It's the values of X and Y I'd be concerned about. Thats the clearest way that Brabco make money - buy the Youngs land cheap, sell a plot to Dumbarton FC for a big mark-up and then make additional profit selling remaining plots to other businesses.

But the proposal is for 4000 capacity which will be delivered in phases. Beyond the Cat A games, we're not in a position to sell out the BB. Phase 1 is likely to be the construcion of a single 2,000 capacity stand much like we have currently. What happens for phases 2, 3 and 4? What would the criteria be for building the extra capacity? What will the funding model be for building the extra capacity? Are we ringfencing some of the profit from selling the current ground in the hope that in the dim and distant future we'll grow our fanbase beyond a 2000 capacity ground? Or do Brabco ride off into the sunset with that money and we're then left with no slush fund to fulfil the original plans for stadium capacity? Who makes money from the ancilary businesses? Who'll run the community pitches? Who'll receive rent for commercial property build beside the ground? If the development attracts a pub/restaurant/fast food franchise who's main source of income is matchday revenue then why shouldn't their commercial rent be paid to the club?

I can just about accept that we could sell the current ground first and then use the money to fund an initial 2000 capacity stand on the new site, with a season or two spent ground sharing. It's everything else about the plan (as little as I know of it so far) that troubles me. If they're promising a 4,000 capacity ground to be built in phases, whats the guarantee that we'll ever see completion of the project? Or that we'll get the infrastructure upgrades needed to get fans to and from the ground? Or that we'll see additional revenue sources from businesses attracted to the development?

Re your reference to ground share, it's not an option as far as I'm concerned,

Remember Cliftonhill, and the years of nomadic football at Hamilton Accies ,Clyde, and Clydebank

It's easy for developers to renage on promises as these three clubs show.

Check John's blog ,plenty history similar to ours makes very interesting readin

  5. Funding for new Stadium

This seems to be the biggest question,

I read that WDC have a £20 m black hole ,,,so that rules them out

Denny homes ltd do not have a credit history that I can see, so this would mean someone putting money up,

I have heard the online bookmakers Bet Butler have their own financial black hole.

Anyone out there got a wee windfall from the lottery ????

  6. Won't be able to make it to the stadium to see what's being proposed due to work, but hope anyone that goes fires off loads of questions to make sure this is going to work for us

Sonstrust are holding a general meeting on 26th Nov at the Abbotsford - you can come along to that for info.

Simon and Alan will answer as best they can

  7. Frankly it isn't surprising to smell shite at Dalmoak. As the site of a council tip, an old folks home and accommodation for hunners of coos it is bound to smell a bit. The answer to no. 1) is that it doesn't look like we do actually need a bigger stadium although to be fair the club were castigated everywhere for not doing more to explore the possibility of erecting temporary stands for this season. However we might benefit from some all weather pitches as they would give as training facilities and an income stream. 2) Good point. Money is the answer to 8 out of 10 answers to all questions about anything. I'd say money. 3) Do Denny's Homes (Brabco) actually own the site? This is news to me. Why would they sell it to themselves if they already owned it? However your point asking who is going to fund it is valid. That is the big question here. Is funding in place? Will bonds be put up with the council as is common in such situations?

All you need to know Wilf

  8. I suggest you get along to the stadium this week and ask all of the above. Point 2 is particularly concerning and I'm going to be asking about that on Thursday.

I,will try to get down during the day if I'm well enough, I've asked someone by proxy to ask these questions

  9. I've been reading with interest about the proposed move to a flood plain site, with poor transport link, and 4000 capacity.

    A few points about this

1/ why do we need a bigger ground when the championship will be almost back to normal, crowds of 742 ,and maybe on a good day, 500 away fans

2/. Why is it being built in stages, answer they build one stand and say ,Ach you don't need any more ,that'll do and Brabco ride off I to the sunset

3/ who is going to fund it as it seems to me that Brabco are selling the site to themselves.

    I SMELL SHITE

Or have I read this wrong???

  10. I had thought that this is a possible reason, again though, could this not have been put out as part of the statement, I think it may have been accepted.

There's more than one way to the castle.

Does that mean dog walkers and ramblers will be banned from the shore.

I can't make it before 2pm ,so does this mean I won't be able to get my car down to the Stadium.

I couldn't walk that distance without putting my health at risk.

Ach is it worth the bother???

It'll probably be moved for TV anyway.

I don't fancy getting kettled in Castle Rd

  11. A photocopier and yellow paper is all it would take along with a borrowed ticket.

Considering demand for the game will be huge, especially from Rangers fans it's quite possible considering how easy it would be. I don't imagine they will want to gain fraudulent access to the street, but would likely wish to access the game itself. I agree the closing of the street is ridiculous but again that's a police matter, as is the ticket thing.

Buying a match ticket for Rangers fans will be far harder than it is for ourselves considering the limitations on away capacity. There will be guys missing this who probably attend every game home and away. I certainly know a few who will be.

I find it difficult to believe this is a police decision.

  12. We have had all ticket games before and we've never been asked to show your ticket 800 yards from the ground.

I spoke to a friend of mine who has not missed a Rangers away game since they went to the 3rd division.

I asked the question "have you been to a game where you were, asked to show your ticket 800 yards from the ground.

His reply "can't think of one"

When you think of the grounds they have visited

Ochilview 50 yards from a main bus route and surrounded by housing and a school

Montrose short distance to a main road

Albion Rovers on a main road

Annan Athletic on main link rd

    Dunfermline on a main road

Ayr Utd 100 yards from a main road and surrounded by housing

Bet Butler Stadium almost a mile from the main road, a housing estate next to the park ,don't see the need at all.

I don't want to hear the parking on Castle rd,only one way out, as that was the same for all games at the Rock

So can someone explain why as I'm confused!,,

  13. Obviously the agenda from the club is that our stadium is not fit for purpose,

What a short term view, take a look at the history and the crowds .

When was the last game at Boghead with over 2000 attendance

A bit of honesty here ,not gloom and doom, just realism.

How long will Dumbarton need a bigger stadium, one season , due to a freak of football when 3 of the biggest teams in Scotland are in the same division.

Next season I would imagine there will only be 2 CatA games

This is a con people ,,do you fancy sitting in a 6000 seater stadium with 742 souls

Just tell Brabco to f**k off and give Sons fans their club back
