Maybe after several unlucky/undeserved failures over the years we are due the most undeserved progression instead.

Can you imagine the scenes from the Hearts Da's when Shankland actually does score the winner after getting 5 mins of game time. Will be worth it tbh

Relying on the last game to get 75% of the required points was a gamble. But doing it on the basis of "1-0 or bust" is shameful

We've played the whole tournament waiting for the last 30/20/10 mins of the last game before trying to score. Absolutely embarrassing*
*Obvs if it works all is forgiven, all hail SSC

Not sure which is the most Scotland way to get knocked out
1) Lead for nearly the whole game, miss a hatful of chances and concede a late equaliser (out on 2 points when a won would have been ok)
2) Win and the nation thinks we are through but get knocked out days later as four other teams end up with 4 points and a better GD
3) Hungary just outright batter us 4-0
Option 2 is giving me the absolute fear based on the belief from everyone that 4 points will be enough. It should be enough but we will definitely not know that at full time and will have to wait for other groups to finish.
That being said I think we've had more than our fair share of GD heartbreak, and we deserve a break this time and will actually do it

Much improved on Friday and we rode our luck at times for sure but Switzerland were there for the taking and it will bite us on the arse on Sunday.
The defence is not good enough to just stop trying to score after one goal

At least 20 minutes too late with those subs

Not going for the winner here is absolutely going to bite us on the arse when Hungary get their against the run of play late equaliser on Sunday and we go out with 2 points

No idea what sort of budget we have or squad we will be able to pull together - we'll just have to wait and see over the coming weeks. I'll enjoy the excitement of the unknown/possibilites before the crushing realisation/pessimism kicks in.
I'm mostly just popping in to register my astonishment that Josh Todd is still in his 20s
At least 5 years younger than I had assumed.

It's the same every season with impatience over signings or lack thereof. I'm as guilty of it as anyone and I think it's hopefully a good sign that the changes made with the board and new manager are getting people more optimistic for the season ahead and therefore extra keen on some updates.
To be honest with the season we've just had I'm actually delighted we have been quiet this last week as it meant we havent had any playoffs to contend with!

Marvin Bartley's available lads.
Free and guarantees success as long as the players listen to exactly everything he says, make no mistakes ever and don't own a playstation.

Seven years in the job too, so plenty experience. Not a journeyman as it's all at one club but that's no bad thing, built up Annan to their best ever finish. Third longest serving manager in SPFL I think he was?

Best of luck to Peter, fully behind him. Hopefully we've bagged a manager on an upward trajectory and we can both benefit from improvements and a return to the Championship.
Exactly what I hoped for with the Bartley appointment of course (!)

You just know there’s no chance he’ll get sacked as well if he is shite due to the relationship with our director.
Dave Cormack sacked Stephen Glass at Aberdeen with a very similar close family/friends relationship after that turned to disaster.
Murphy has a far stronger track record to point to as well. The relationship will have helped him but it's not like it's the only reason we've gone for him

Thank God for that - even his leaving statement just screams of self-preservation.
it wasnt successful because of injuries - ie not my fault we were rubbish
"a young group will have improved and learned a lot and be better for it" - ie if the club is better next year actually I should get credit for this
The delusions are off the scale. Good riddance.

Edinburgh had a good result to beat Montrose tonight.
Maybe Annan and Stirling both beating Edinburgh isn't the certainty that many are assuming.
In the context of fighting to stay up I want us to be assuming that Annan and Stirling have those 3 points locked in. Any slip up would be a massive bonus obviously but it needs to be seen as that.
If we are relying on other sides slipping up to that extent then we really are in trouble.

Assuming both Stirling and Annan beat Edinburgh then we're all level really and it will be a straight shootout from the other games
QoS - Stirling (A), Cove (H), Montrose (A) GD -8
Annan - Falkirk (H) Stirling (A) GD - 14
Stirling - QoS (H), Annan (H) GD -21
Thought a draw next week might be enough but actually we would need another point from somewhere to avoid the scenario of an Annan/Stirling draw sending us down

At this moment in time, I would take that and would be all for it......surely there's some kind of Stirling and QoS connection somewhere.......
Will need to see how the weekend results go but could be on for the George Rowe Celebratory Stitch-Up

Massive game for us at home to Edinburgh this weekend.
Drop points (certainly possible - we managed it at Meadowbank) and I can't see us avoiding 9th with Annan and Stirling also playing Edinburgh
However, win and we could probably sneak over the line with another draw from somewhere
In fact if Annan lose to Cove this weekend, we should probably negotiate a "Disgrace of Forthbank" type 0-0 draw with Stirling for next weekend that could likely leave us both safe by the last day.

Well Bartley promised our Board and the players promotion, so yes from his own standards at the start of the season he has failed.
Unless he went for the ambiguous "I'll get you out of this league"

Edinburgh are the only team in Scotland with a worse home record than us (and only by 3 points)
One of their two points in last 17 came against us.
Stirling and Annan still to play Edinburgh.
Annan might just run out of games if we sneak this and they lose Vs Cove but this is a must win for us.
Don't and we very much deserve to go down (which we will if end up in the playoffs)

Really awful stats. The bold bit isn’t correct, though. Bartley was appointed on a 2 and a half year deal, there has been no extension since his initial appointment.
Ah I had it in my head he was initially until the end of the season then got a 2 year contract at some point before the summer.
I know it's difficult to get right and overperforming on a one year contract means folk complain if they get poached for nothing but 2.5 years straight off the bat for a first ever manager job is bold. As we suspect he must have interviewed very well. Talk the talk but certainly can't walk the walk.

It's not as if poor home form is a one or two season problem it seems to have been like this for quite a few seasons, although this is probably the worst by a good margin I would guess.
1.1 ppg at Palmerston for the last 5 seasons
And yes this seasons 12pts from 16 games is the worst

Took another look at the numbers on our home form
Since the start of 2019/20 we've managed 87 points at home in the league from 79 games -
1.1 ppg for 5 years - no wonder folk are finding something better to do than head to Palmerston.
2019/20 - 14 pts from 14 games
2020/21 - 15 pts from 13 games
2021/22 - 17 pts from 18 games
2022/23 - 29pts from 18 games
2023/24 - 12pts from 16 games
An anomaly in the second half of last season saw 6 wins from last 9 at home and three in a row - the fabled run of form that got Bartley his 2 year contract.
This year the worst of the lot and a 4th relegation battle in 5 years, despite playing a league lower

The loss will give Clarke an out to say "this is why we couldn't attack all game it would have left us too open" Then he can say we should have had a penalty.
As it is, it was a shameful tactical performance with no effort to win a game for 260 minutes and get entirely what we deserve
