  1. The above would have been almost believable if it had said a City News crew turned up. Brace yourselves, the poppy shite has begun already. Cambridge University have BANNED poppies apparently!
  2. Some finish to the game last night, "scenes" when the Yanks pulled it back to 4-2, then 4-3. Red Sox' closer looked visibly nervous. The Yankees challenging the last out added to the tension at the end but delighted they are out, now hoping Houston sweep Boston
  3. A guy in the year above me at school got a mohican style haircut and they threatened to suspend him. His parents were from Hong Kong and he claimed it was for cultural reasons (it wasn't) and the school backed down, some boy. In general I hate these stories, just fix your hair, follow the rules, get your standard grades and then you can be an attention seeking wee p***k all you want.
  4. Claimed he doesn't walk away, then, walks away. In an effort to one up Ally, his son decides to do driving away
  5. Bari McKenzie signs with Fife Flyers, is he the only player to play with all four Scottish Elite League teams? Side note, Dumfries v Murrayfield U12s many years ago, I made a pass from behind our net and stood admiring it, next second Bari hit me behind the net, knocked the wind out of me and I had to be helped off the ice. Even back then he was hitting everything he could.
  6. Spent the long weekend just over an hour north of the city at my in-law's place right on Lake Simcoe, our wee dog absolutely loves it there, next to no traffic and all sorts of wildlife to chase, birds, squirrels, cats, chipmunks and even a mink were all seen off by Saint, once we got back to the city she spent the whole day sulking and looking on to our balcony just in case the mink came back. As we were steps away from the water and the humidity made it feel like 38 degrees, we did a lot of swimming, bought an inflatable in the hope that Saint could come in with us as shes not a swimmer. Works well for all of 30 seconds then a look of fear came over her wee face and she jumped onto my shoulders and got as high up as possible. She seemed to like the inflatable, just on dry land though
  7. Mentally ill ex-army Frenchie is my guess
  8. Similar thing happens in my apartment building all the time and annoys me every time. There is a lobby on the ground floor and one of the first floor. The lift comes down to 1 and people get off, then people waiting to go up at 1 get on rather and go down to G instead of waiting on it to come back to 1. Meaning if you are getting off at G you have to squeeze past these morons to get off or you wait at G to go up, one lift comes down but it's too crowded with people that got on at 1 to get on yourself. Subhuman scum. People in my building also have a habit of standing right in front of the doors when a lift comes down and seem shocked that someone might actually want to get off before they get on.
  9. Jays trade Roberto Osuna to the Astros for Ken Giles and two minor leaguers, from a moral and business stance I can understand why they did but from a baseball stance it's another poor trade by Toronto. Hopefully Osuna can get his shit together and be a decent player in Houston
  10. When they're not fighting with each other, these boys really do seem to love each other. Cream, the darker cat on the left gave us a good scare last night, sitting on the balcony with the missus, a bird flew into the closed balcony door (which I took as a huge compliment to my window cleaning skills) and seemed to hang in the air for a second slightly stunned, the bold wee Cream attempts to jump and get it, misses but takes out a plant box we have hanging on the balcony railings, just over waist height, he's a an idiot but he can jump some height
  11. He's 17 , has a pretty interesting back story, born to Liberian parents in a refugee camp in Ghana, moved to Canada at 5 and became a citizen last year. It doesn't seem like the best move though, he's currently a regular first team player with Vancouver, seems likely to end up in the youth teams or Bayern Munich II, if not loaned out to other clubs. As Senorsoupe said in the Bundesliga thread, hopefully it leads to the Canadian national team having a true world class player, and hopefully they discover a few more gems before 2026
  12. The cost of car insurance if you have an address in the city, constant heavy traffic in and out of the GTA and cost of/lack of parking downtown means using public transport is very common in Toronto, there does tend to be a hierarchy when it comes to the class of passengers though, subway tends to be the best, maybe because it's the hardest to sneak on to, there are hardly any jakies, followed by streetcars (trams) then buses are the lowest of the low. If you don't live near a subway or streetcar line you may as well live in the country
  13. Following a mass shooting in Toronto last night I've been playing 'tragic event' Facebook bingo this morning Thoughts and prayers - Check #torontostrong #danforthstrong - Check People marking themselves safe, even though they live nowhere near the east end of the city - Check
  14. Lived in Toronto just over 4 years now, still have not been shot. There was a murder outside my old house in 2015, I woke up after hearing a loud argument, followed by some really loud bangs, then a lot of screaming and shouting. Looked outside and saw a girl laying on the ground. A Police officer was there very soon after trying to resuscitate her, followed by dozens of other cops as there were already a lot in the other area due to shooting at a nearby nightclub just before that. The girl died and as yet both murders are unsolved. https://globalnews.ca/news/2145968/multiple-victims-after-shooting-near-muzik-nightclub/ This year is the worst so far for shootings since I moved here, 224 incidents this year, 27 deaths by shooting. With the exception of the shootings in Greektown last night, most seem to be targeted shooting, so I've never felt particularity unsafe. I still intend to move out of the city in the next few years though. I have fired a gun once, in a gravel pit on my friend's reserve up north, good fun even if I was a terrible shot.
  15. Not strictly MLS but related, it seems some of these guys need realise they aren't in the old country anymore. And reeks of desperation, getting so carried away for a team that's younger than you are. https://globalnews.ca/news/4340187/toronto-fc-fans-fire-blast-ottawa-fury/ It's also sad that after winning the 'treble' last year, the Canadian Championship is the only thing Toronto have a sniff at winning.
  16. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/police-up-patrols-near-cn-tower-1.4743828 Scandalously Facebook won't let me check in as safe yet but apparently the police know something but like a schoolgirl won't share it with anything. A state of mass apathy has set in across the Greater Toronto Area. All I can gather so far from Facebook is that Justin Trudeau is 100% responsible and only a libtard snowflake would disagree. So please #prayfortoronto just in case
  17. The Global T20 Canada tournament is now well under way featuring some big name players, Steve Smith, Lasith Malinga, Chris Gayle, David Warner. Five teams 'representing' different Canadian cities and the West Indies B Team. It was billed as taking place in Toronto, when it's actually in a small town an hour north called King City. I get that they have a ready made cricket ground there already but feel that it would have been much better to have been held in Mississauga, Brampton or Surrey, BC. Cities with huge South Asian populations. Unfortunately it appears to receive zero tv coverage, and King City is a pain in the arse to get without a car. Hopefully the league is a success. There are ambitious plans for a 35,000 stadium in the Greater Toronto Area which was supposed to be finished by 2017, but so far zero work has taken place
  18. The 'parade' in Toronto usually consists of no more than 200 Fraser Aird types and is no longer allowed down Yonge Street, the main street in the city. It's dwarfed by the annual Pride, St Patrick's Day and Carabana parades. It used to be the Orangemen ran all levels of government in York/Toronto, which led to many Catholics, Jews and first nations people joining the lodge to further their political and professional careers. There is even a Mohawk Orange Lodge, I'm sure the staunchest members in the UK would spew into their wee white gloves at the thought. It thankfully seems to be dying out here
  19. Yeah Glenrothes police have a great track record for finding missing people of course.
  20. Antler Kitchen. That did cross my mind, the food looks superb there. The owner got some great free publicity.
  21. The missus has asked me to arrange a dinner for us and some friends, 11 people in total, to celebrate her birthday and our engagement. Seemed like a fairly easy task, there are hundreds of decent restaurants in downtown Toronto. Then today she rolls in the wee grenade, "oh one of them is vegan, can you find a place with vegan options?" So because one person in a group of 11 is vegan, I have write off half the decent options. Apparently telling her to have plain bread and water isn't an option. Fucking vegans
  22. I saw this on Monday and thought about this thread, it appears to a message from a filling station in Pakistan, where I'm sure extreme heat doesn't mean mid 20s. Also a great way into making people visit your business more often to half fill their tanks. It was posted by the same lassie that 'shares' missing persons posts for people who went missing months ago and were found a few hours later. She also frequently posts looking for recommendations rather than using Google like everyone else. She's very much a wid though so I have not deleted her yet.
