  1. His lack of pace and injuries the only things that have stopped him being taken on by a bigger club over the years, I think..

He relies on his skill and clever set-plays to succeed & I think he could be a very good player for club and country for several years yet...

  2. Apart from losing more games, spiralling down the pots, and ruining young players confidence because they've been thrown in before they're ready?  There's always something to lose unless you're San Marino or Gibraltar.  I guarantee that should we get beat by Slovenia, then decide to do what you say against England, then subsequently lose and convincingly so, those young players will join everyone else in the same boat - HMS Shithouse.  They'll get absolutely castigated.
Once they're ready, they'll be in the squad, got no doubt about that.  Burke is further forward than the other two - as evidenced by the fact he was plucked straight from the U19s - so will be a regular fairly soon.  Gauld doesn't look ready, and is hardly lighting up the U21 side, so why should we just throw them into the main side?  What does it really achieve other than the hollow "fro the yoofs in" shouts?  Wait til they're ready, then it benefits everyone.

We've been down this road before, so we can agree to disagree. My main contention, is that they have better quality than current options & they would handle challenge OK.

  3. What position could he play if he gets a chance for senior Scotland squad next year?

Would he not be wasted in a holding role & be better supporting striker?

If/when we are out of World Cup reckoning, would have him, Burke & Souttar made regulars. To be honest, would do it now, not much left to lose....

  4. Is this thread just on a rinse and repeat, aye?

"Gauld isn't good enough, can't get in the team".

"Ah come on give him a chance".

*a weeks worth of unrelated bollocks about Gordon Strachan/Ricky Sbragia/the Souttar's*.

"Gauld still hasn't played, he's shite".

Why do we need to second guess everything here? Maybe he's not being played because the manager's a fucking idiot. Maybe he's not playing because he's not match fit, or maybe he's not been playing because he's not good enough. There's a constant need to predict how good the lad will be on here, with absolutely nobody being patient enough to see how good he actually is. He's not going to sit on a bench for the rest of his career. He will, at some point in the not too distant future, get a run of games for a team somewhere and maybe then we can start to suggest how good he is. The tone of some posts in here are almost willing him to be shite too, just so they can come back on here and say "told you he was shite".

You make it sound like there is no cyclical, withering, pish in some of the other threads...

  5. This is In regards to being an international centre half by the way... Johns obviously a half decent Scottish Premiership player but in terms of the national team he's nowhere near it and look how bad we are in that position!!! And John has been huge for years in comparison to kids his age. To say he'll be starting for Stoke week in week out in 2 years is ridiculous. Wasn't even in Uniteds first team in the championship before he left.

    You know yourself very well..
  6. Maybe because they played him as sweeper in that game ?

I think he was doing pretty much the same role in both games that he has been doing for Sporting.

In my opinion, against Macedonia I feel he played the simple ball most times and was in the periphery a lot.

Against NI, i thought he really went for it and tried to make things happen (second half, in particular).

Maybe fitness is a big factor, as he was playing regularly for Sporting B at the time of NI game...?

  7. No game time. Their line up and substitutions don't seem to change at all from week to week but they got beat again so hopefully the manager starts to change things.

Only one of five loans they have that has yet to start a game, apparently. Can't help his confidence, can it?

Something in news last week saying he is good technically, but "lacks intensity".

Maybe if he got a reasonable chance he would be able to demonstrate some " intensity".

Last under 21 games against Macedonia, he looked a shell of the player I saw against NI earlier in the year (didn't stand out at all)

Maybe in desperation they will give him a chance now, but won't hold my breath...
  8. Yeah  he got 1st team appearances at sporting when he 1st got there,  nowhere to been seen last 18months. So to me that's going backwards. I guess you have evidence to the contrary

He played a couple of games initially & scored a couple of goals. Then Coach was fired and new Coach put him to back of the queue & seems to prefer physically stronger players...

He is trying to overcome adversity to get back into the picture & deserves our support in doing that.

Besides, he's not been there anything like three years - more like two and a bit...

I respectfully disagree with you in this instance..
  9. Gauld was bought buy sporting for peanuts in today's transfer market,  he is hardly a huge investment for them and was probably bought as punt in the hope  they could sell him on to England for big profit.

It's year 3 and he's gone backwards this thread should be closed as Gauld is further down the pecking order than Barry mckay and on that note enough said.

Exaggerating to make a point, I'm sure.

He will be in Scotland team eventually, but MAY have to accept he is not going to get a proper chance over there & come back home to enable him to do it.

Portugal have just won Euro 2016, so they may feel like giving their own young players more playing time & opportunities...

  10. McKay is the most talented Scottish player playing in Scotland. To those that understand football, it's blindingly obvious. It's also obvious he is a central midfielder and not a winger. He has the best first touch and acceleration of any Scottish player in the league, not to mention vision and weight of pass. When he leaves Rangers for a better league this will become abundantly obvious.

I watched Mackay against NI earlier this year. He has some good tricks to wrong-foot opponents. However, the ball bounced off him a number if times - a number of others had more consistent touch on the ball. No way is he a central midfielder either, though I do have time for him as a winger.

    WUM?
  11. Burke's recent career trajectory has well and truly smashed the glass ceiling for Scottish exports. Gauld might make it in the Portuguese league eventually but it's been a slow and painful journey so far

Yes, it has been slow & we're all so keen for him to make it. I think he will make it, as he has a lot of quality in him. Playing as holding midfielder is less flashy, so harder for him to stand out at the moment..
  12. Lack of game sharpness & coach not wanting to change winning team keeping out of Setubal team up to now. Significantly, still sees future with Sporting, so they must be happy enough with his progress and see him in their first team next year..

  13. Agree with the last few posts.
Also, if Snodgrass continues to play the way he has started this season, I wouldn't be surprised to see him move to a top 6 EPL club come January.

I think only his lack of pace has stopped him being signed by team near top of the EPL over the last few years...
