Fyvie was a very good player and if he was in a team like Falkirk you would all be saying the same! When he's fit he's usually our best player. Injuries and playing in a dreadful team haven't helped him recently but still a very good player. Our only consistent threat from midfield.

I've corrected the tense for you.

Hibs fan on their game thread mentioned the wind was whistling through the gaps in the Easter Road stands and the stewards couldn't keep their balance. Two Hibees in the pub we were talking to said the conditions were bad at their game (not as bad as Hibs performance though) I also noticed Hutchi Vale's game at Ainslie Park also went ahead today and while there is some shelter from the flats there it can be windy too.

Meadowbank was a wind tunnel even when the big stand was there although I can only remember going to one abandoned game there- against Whitehill in 1998 when the pitch resembled the Commonwealth Pool and after twenty minutes of splashing about the game was abandoned.

I have been to two wind postponed/abandoned games in Angus though- Arbroath v Cowden when goal kicks were blown back over the bar and a game at Station Park which went off about ten minutes before kick off... leaving the town we noticed Forfar West End were still playing their home match  Similarly a game at Edinburgh University just before Christmas. The wind had been strong but had dropped by the time the ref turned up. He quickly called the game off, got in his car where his wife had been sitting and buggered off to do some Christmas shopping.

A New Year's game at Annfield on the old plastic was memorable: same conditions as today, Stirling Albion were awarded a penalty. It was taken and saved by Meadowbank's Jim McQueen but the ball had moved. A pile of sand was then used to try and stop the ball moving and McQueen saved again but the penalty was ordered to be retaken. Third save and the referee gave up. The game finished 0-0 unsurprisingly.

Wasn't there a Forfarshire Senior Cup at one point, that could perhaps be revived?

Dear God.  Please don't let this happen.  Thank you.

However, I can remember a Partick Thistle supporter - whether on here or another forum - lamenting the fact he couldn't "enjoy the beautiful cake he won" as City beat Partick in season 1970/71. The only way to win a "beautiful cake" was by purchasing a programme, as it was the prize if you had the right number, so they must have issued in season 1970/71, if only intermittently, perhaps.

That brought back a memory.  I won a Gellatly (local bakery) cake in Dec 1971 at the Brechin v Stranraer game.  Doesn't help you but I can confirm the cake was excellent.   Bit difficult for me to get it home though to give to my Mother.

When did Brechin City start issuing programmes on a regular basis? Was it 1970/71 or 71/72?

The word "regular" gives me problems.  I've got BCFC programmes for 71/72.  None for 70/71.  But have one for a league game in 1968 and earlier for Scot Cup games.  I'm certain they are all games I attended but I'm by no means a supporter of the Club..  Hope this may help answer your question.

Two Montrose handballs and an RKO on Sammon in the highlights tonight. Referee's are paid way too much to do so little.

To be fair your RB had 1 possibly 2 clear hand balls and was on a yellow card, ref was poor for both teams absolutely honking so he was.

I'm just happy the Alloa keeper couldn't use his hands.  He must put the wind up his defenders.

They’re taken from the Edinburgh City highlights package which are usually absolutely excellent - up there with the best in the lower leagues. Would give them a break on that and ask why Montrose haven’t done a highlights package themselves.

Edinburgh City ones above which have extended coverage which I’m sure you’ll all enjoy

Listen to the commentary.  The guys has no clue what is going on but that doesn't stop him talkin complete nonsense.  I gave up listening at half time - SO BAD.

I wasn't suggesting that, just that the current fear in the North of a Great Replacement of Highland League sides by Midland League sides over the next few years might be overblown.

It's a fear that is justified.  Since Brechin dropped into the SHL I've been to about 12 games at Glebe Park.  The standard of many SHL teams is somewhat poor compared to the top Midlands Junior teams.  If promotion/relegation was purely on football ability as a team then the fears you talk about are very realistic.  Licensing, finance and desire of where Midlands teams want to be is what will delay this replacement of teams in the current SHL.  The future for the current SHL may well be to split in two.  A West section (including North Caledonian League) and an East section may well come about someday.

Given that Montrose Roselea finished solidly in the bottom half of the North Region Premiership last season, and are now solidly in the top half of the Midland League, could this be an indication that there's no obvious gulf in quality between the leagues?

Far from the conclusion to draw.  As was predicted last season, when the move was mooted, Roselea's move to the Midland League has enabled the club to attract better players from the local area and also to receive loanees from Montrose FC.  They are playing a far more attractive style of football this season because of the better players. I would seriously doubt if anyone at Roselea would want to return to the North juniors.

  10. Excellent  performance in the first half.  A significant difference in the way we played in terms of passing and intensity now that Rory Mac is no longer there.  There is an arguement that substitutions were made too early which allowed Edinburgh on to the score sheet but the 3 points were always staying at LP.  It may well be that giving so many players a run is more important in the long term.  Well done lads.
