  1. GGG's footwork is tremendous. He's always on balance and ready to throw punches.

I can to an extent understand how you may question it at times as he can LOOK unorthodox and raw when he comes forward throwing overhands as he walks. As he can appear to be square on- But it's actually superb footwork as he's cutting off the ring and changing the angle with every step and throw.

    This video explains it-

I was clearly wrong!!!!!! You have to admit without knowing an actual game plan he looks very head on and slow.

    I am now educated
  2. If you can't see how good his footwork is then you haven't seen enough of him, the pressure he puts on opponents is unreal always in front of them cutting off the ring superbly.

I may be wording this wrong.... he is a front foot fighter and like you sad he controls a fight with his jab he lands a lot also. High percentage fighter. I just don't like his style.
  3. Mate, that's us finished with this conversation. GGG is superb.

I'm not saying he's shite ffs lol I just personally think he's showed signs of being a Fighter who can be got at, I'm not disputing his power or durability because it's second to none. He does use his strength to his advantage and has a solid chin but is he a Fighter who has great footwork or lightening hand speed.... IMO no its not great, he's a warrior.
  4. No chance, he has quicker hands that's it. Shocking defence and Canelo's wins over Cotto, Lara, Trout are better than anything on Khan's resume

It's well documented that Khan can't take a punch and its his downfall. His hand speed is frightening, I was on about in that fight not as an overall comment as I really like Canelo as a Fighter.
  5. Out boxing him but I think he won 1 round, 2 at the most? Khan was out boxing Canelo I think I had that 4-1 when it stopped, it doesn't really mean anything when you look at how both fights ended, always only 1 winner

I would of given him 3. Exactly your proving my point..... how did Canelo beat Khan??? Yes Khan clearly was winning that fight on points.
  6. Cause he's not had years of training at the weight and he's not a heavy hitter pretty simple. You're missing my point I'm saying defensively he's not as great as everyone thinks. Physically yes he was far superior and his shots took a lot out Brooks but in now way shape or form does that mean that Brooks wasn't out boxing him until his power took over.

  7. His biggest attributes are his footwork and a cracking jab, give him average power and he's still the best middleweight around and a top fighter P4P.

Agree to disagree. I'll give you his jab tho but going back to his last fight with Brooks he was made to look average as a boxer, his footwork in that fight was non existent, Brooks out boxed him for the majority of the fight.

I know you can't judge his career on one fight and he's been untouchable as to now but what that fight showed us is that he can be got at.

  8. There's no amount of adaptation a body can make, against a guy who punches so hard he literally brakes your face.

Was more on about Brooks punching power mate..... no question GGG is just really hard a bit like Froch, not great boxers just hard boys who can hit.

    Like to see Canelo also
  9. Doubt it happens next, imagine it'll happen at some point though most money either of them can make other than maybe a Manny fight

Praying it does, would love to see it and Brooks to lay him out. Also like to see him have a few more fights then have a crack at GGG again after his body has adapted to the weight

  10. Maradona was making players look non existent 30 years ago as well.

Has the standard of football massively improved though?

Yes players are more professional, fitter and stronger due to advancements in sports science etc but does that mean the standard of player has improved though? Fitter and stronger doesn't mean that they are better football players.

For example to look at Scottish and English national sides. Are they producing the same standard of football player that they were in the 60's,70's and 80's? They are producing better athletes but I don't necessarily think they are producing better football players.

It is a very subjective argument and very difficult to come up with a definitive answer. For me it's Maradona with Messi a close second. In terms of pure football ability they are light years ahead of Ronaldo for me as he is far to reliant on pace and power whereas boys like Messi and Maradona it's pure footballing ability.

But I am happy to admit it depends on what style of player you enjoy watching.

I agree with a lot in this statement.

Yes for me football has massively improved your average Joe would be a world beater back then, I read a post about the tactical aspect of football and how it's changed and made scoring goals a lot harder and Messi and Ronaldo do it week in week out.

I think it's a cultural thing in Scotland we've always been guilty of over looking more technically gifted young players for those who seem to be of a more Athletic player, tall, fast and powerful and for this our national team has suffered greatly and that's down to the pro youth set up we have nothing coming through.... the lad Burke was tipped to be Scotland's answer to Gareth Bale and for me he's the perfect example of what we are talking about, technically not great but a threat with his pace and power.

I think we should appreciate we get to watch Messi and Ronaldo so regularly as I think it'll be a long long time before we see anything close to these two.

  11. But is Messi better than Maradona was? I don't think he is.

To be really honest I'm only 30 so I've only seen bits and pieces of Maradona but from the game he played to where the game is now the level of a professional footballer massively improved, Messi and Ronaldo makes these players look non existent and are so far in front of them it's scary.... so yes I'd say they both are.
  12. The only real question... is Messi better than Ronaldo? Yes he is, Messi will go down as the best ever irrespective to whether he wins a world cup and he's not going to IMO. Messi seems to have more of an ability to control games, in terms of a footballing brain for me he is miles ahead. Ian get slaughtered for this but I don't really care, a for suited comparison for Ronaldo is Bale, both rely on pace and power in games, they have a similar physique and play the game in a similar way..... obviously Ronaldo I'd a far superior player but in terms of comparisons bale would be it.
